If not, how can I get rid of them in an environmentally friendly way? I know Apple does not take them; is there any other way, other than the trash?

Answer by Linuxiac Apple DOES take them! I read all about the plan for recycling them!

That was in October, 2006. Stores are supposed to take them in!

Read it in a search of google.com for ‘Apple Recycling’.

Well, they NOW state that it only applies when you purchase a major component from them, where the earlier press stated it like they would take in anything they ever made!

But, now, they will take in one piece of any computer you ever had, when you buy something that is a major component of an Apple system.

I do know the 8 systems I own are all built since 1993 and work very fast on my network, with my other 74 Linux systems! I only turn on up to about 16 at one time.

They all run upto 50X faster in all processes. So, except for one Microsoft system kept off the net, used for gaming, only, we are just about virus proof. Yes, we run http://ipcop.org on an older PC 350Mhz.

The GNU/Linux for the older Macs goes back to the PPC and the 601, 603 chips… Yellow Dog Linux… Ubuntu… check out http://livecdlist.com with a search for the Mac in it’s database, online.

Unlike non-jailbroken iPhones, you’ll be able to change the background image of your iPad; but as with Apple’s earlier handheld, you can freely arrange your apps and bookmarks as desired.
