Some people are really really upset with the Todoroki plot line and it’s making me wonder if I need to worry about Touya after all? I was hardcore convinced he’d be okay in the end but now seeing all the anger and irritation with the writing regarding how the family reacted to his identity reveal, it’s making me worry about Touya’s ending.

No haha. The writing isn’t a sudden twist--it’s been wildly inconsistent for a long, long time, at least half the manga.

I also think people are interpreting what Rei said more negatively than was intended, but I also think this is on Horikoshi for trying to create suspense with a very convoluted plotline that is still the most compelling in the manga. Shouto came to his decision on his own--he will do it; having him off-screen convinced to let Enji help wasn’t a great choice, but it is offscreened because clearly in the end it will come down to Shouto. Shouto literally said “he’s me.” He’ll save Touya.
