You're Losing Me & lyric parallels
The more I listen to these vault tracks the more I'm drawing parallels between them and the folklore love triangle. It's not in the sense that it's directly about Haylor, but I do think it inspired some of the primary emotional veins. The whole thing schtick of James who showed up at a party saying "I don't know anything but I know I miss you" is very HYGTG and "Slept next to her but dreamt of you" just reminds me of how they've both had songs talking about him sleeping with people who remind him of her.
And the thing is, I feel like Taylor was both August and Betty in this whole twisted ordeal. The entirety of their situationship she was constantly in that "You weren't mine to lose" phase, but after they ended and he ran back to her we know he haunted her "I see your face in every unsuspecting waiter/Chasing show down the grocery line" but she also haunted him in a sense "I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired". Plus, there are also a bunch of parallels between cardigan and This Love. It's pretty interesting to see more & more how folklore & evermore are simultaneously fictional and realistic as we make our way through the vault tracks of these re-recordings.
yeah, i think the desire to be chased, apologized to, is a recurring desire in taylor's life. that's why even the songs that felt less autobiographical still felt extremely personal, because of those parallels you're describing.
also, although "dark side of the gym" and "i'm standing in a 1950s gymnasium" aren't strict parallels, i think it's yet another connection for how taylor thinks in metaphor. i think the high school motif is a signpost for when she's drawing from something in a certain part of her past, or when she's relating to a specific feeling (like grappling with fame and its high costs.)
Taylor Swift Albums and the Vibes They Give Me
Debut: Sitting on a lakebed, strumming a guitar and writing songs with crumpled up pieces of paper lying everywhere.
Fearless: Laughing with your best friend in the halls of your high school during class change.
Speak Now: Lying down in a meadow full of flowers writing stories.
Red: Strolling down a street in the middle of autumn, fallen leaves crumpling under your step.
1989: Partying the night away and having fun while trying new things everyday.
reputation: Simply just lying in bed with your lover with the curtains drawn shut from the world.
Lover: Holding hands with your lover, walking home down a sidewalk covered in snow.
folklore: Wandering through a forest in a Victorian nightgown, with a candle wick, just getting lost in the trees.
evermore: Sitting by the fire in a log cabin in the middle of a blizzard, a storybook open on your lap.
Midnights: Sitting on the couch in your PJs in the middle of the night with the TV going on in the background as you look through old photo albums.
I FOUND IT
Free my boy he definitely did all of that plus a bunch of other stuff we can't prove and yes I helped capture him in the first place but now he's become like a son to me
Peter about Neal:
i love when neal's like i've GOT to look like i'm in the 1940s even on my downtime so im at home at 9pm on a weeknight in a white tank tucked into a pair of chinos. with a BELT. and im going to wear this to draw with pastels, a notoriously non-smudgy activity
what in the bisexual
early season 1 peter and neal are so special to me. neal caffrey’s formed a parasocial relationship with the fbi agent relentlessly pursuing him around the globe but lucky for him peter is just as on board with their best friendship
neal: my girlfriend broke up with me :(
peter, holding handcuffs and a warrant for neal’s arrest: aw im sorry buddy.
