Merritt Johnson Response 1
“This is a Creation Story” by Merritt Johnson is an art exhibit being shown at Fresno State. It deals with the Standing Rock protest about the Dakota Access Pipeline. I attended her lecture where she explained the meaning behind the exhibit. Merritt said that the mop bucket and the furry stethoscope represent that humans will drink contaminated water if its all they have and animals can sense water pollution before humans can. The pill of dirt and the tin cup are saying that we should listen to the earth. The masked figures are blind and are showing the importance of knowledge. In the background of the exhibit sounds from Standing Rock protesters filled the exhibit. Overall it was kind of eerie.
Trip to the snow. Having fun tubing at White Branch Youth Camp in Oregon.
