How to train your dragon short one-shot. I saw a video of a similar concept and had to start writing. Hope you enjoy!
As the sun rose quietly in the morning, Astrid opened the front door to her balcony. Toothless has been laying there, watching the sky and the forest, for hours now. His rider died in battle a few days prior. The dragon had been grieving in his own way, waiting for Hiccup's arrival. She sat on the deck next to him and started petting his back kindly.
- I know, Toothless. I miss him too...
She leaned her head on his saddle, sadly watching the sunrise with him. The night fury hadn't eaten since the accident and was probably starving but too depressed to feel it. Fishlegs came and sat next to them with a fish in his hand. He tried to feed it to the poor dragon but inevitably failed.
On the day of the attack, everything on the edge was perfect until the dragon riders spotted an armada of boats in the horizon. In the middle of the fight, Hiccup fell off his saddle as he got shot in the stomach. He fell in the ocean and got taken by a scauldron. They all tried, but they couldn't save him. Toothless was devastated.
Over the next few weeks, the riders could see just how much his best friend's leave was affecting him. He was slowly loosing hope, day by day. Astrid was also starting to loose herself to depression. Toothless was the only thing keeping her alive at this point, he was giving her a will to live. Him and her dragon Stormfly.
About a month and a half after the death of the chief, Toothless had disappeared one morning. All worried something terrible happened, the group started searching for him everywhere. In the afternoon, Astrid found the heartbroken dragon laying next to a bush of blue oleanders. He seemed rather peaceful for a dragon who had recently eaten half a bush of poisonous flowers. She sat on her knees next to him and checked for a pulse. Nothing. She broke down crying on his limp body. She had tried so hard to manage the death of the love of her life, but this... this was too much for her strong heart. The dragon had killed himself in grief, and the woman was considering doing the same. She sat there for a few hours, crying quietly, until the rest of the team found her. Fishlegs sat down next to her and tried to comfort her as much as he could.
Alas, a few days later, there stood Astrid at the edge of the cliff. She sent her suicide note by terror mail and approached the edge. She took one deep breath before jumping. Hiccup's last words rang through her head one last time as she fell, "Astrid! Watch out!" The wind caressed her body as it held her up ever so slightly. When she finished land, her body felt like it got stepped on by mother nature before going black. A puddle of blood and flesh splattered across the cold dry rocks. She was now at peace in Valhalla along with Toothless and her boyfriend.
