Sword, Korea, 17th-19th century
from The National Museum of Korea
Been reading some high republic novels and now I’m imagining the clone wars trio in high republic fashion.
People always use Obi Wan, Mace and Anakin using mind tricks on Cad Bane as a "aha! The Jedi were corrupt!" moment.
Then they proceed to completely ignore the fact that children were kidnapped and were going to be transported to Sidious, who was going to indoctrinate them/torture them/probably kill most of them. And they had already looked for them, couldn't find them, meditated, still couldn't find them, and exhausted all other options, and still couldn't find them.
Something else the fanbase completely and totally ignores:
Anakin was the one who convinced Obi Wan and Mace to actually try the mind trick on Cad Bane. Mace was the one who initially didn't want to, and said it might break Bane's mind. Anakin then proceeded to point out the fact they really had no choice (or time). Then after they did it, Anakin was the one who wanted to do it again. I'm sure it's a total coincidence that no one ever mentions this when bringing up the scene.
And are you really going to condemn them for probing a child trafficker's mind for about 10 seconds? Really? To ascertain the children's locations and rescue them? That's what makes the Jedi seem corrupt to you?
"what cad bane did was wrong, but he didn't deserve to get tortured!!!"
Nah I'm just going to come out and say it: Cad Bane deserved that. He did. Like boo hoo the child trafficking mercenary gets mind tricked and it hurts for about ten seconds. Honestly I am just crying and weeping for poor widdle Cad Bane.
Cause I know if this was in any other fictional medium y'all would be cheering them on and if Mace wasn't a black man.
"but they could've broke his mind!!!"
Oh no, a child trafficking scumbag who's murdered countless people could've got his mind broken!! The tragedy!!! The injustice 🤬
And I'm sure it's a total coincidence I've never seen any star wars fan condemn these two, who actively participated:
The amount of Mace bashing I've seen because of this scene, while Anakin or Obi Wan aren't even mentioned 99.9% of the time is telling. Very telling.
Tbh, I’ve always seen that scene as meant to be messed up. The whole thing is absolutely framed as wrong - just from Ahsoka’s expression you can tell this is awful. This is not a moral thing to do. But that’s the tragedy of the Clone Wars. They are always caught between a bad choice and a worse one.
Fighting in the war is wrong. Not fighting is worse. Hurting Bane is wrong. Not protecting children is way, way worse. To me, the three of them hurting Bane - who, yeah, is a total pos - isn’t so much an indication that they’re morally corrupt but that they’re morally trapped.
And it’s a “holy shit!!!” moment because we realize how *dangerous* and powerful Jedi are, and how them choosing not to default to this violent way of solving problems is why everybody in universe feels comfortable shitting on them. If the Jedi were corrupt, instead of cornered and increasingly desperate; we’d see a lot more of this and people would be a lot more afraid of them.
Using this scene to criticize the Order’s moral conduct is also a tad ironic to me since one of the other most common criticisms is that the Jedi ‘should have done something about slavery in the Outer Rim’ - “something” usually meaning: they should have gotten rid of the slavers and freed all the slaves, violently if need be. Soooo... violence against monsters to safeguard the lives of the innocent is apparently okay, right?
'The Darksaber belongs to Sabine!', 'The Darksaber belongs to Din!', 'The Darksaber belongs to-
No
The Darksaber belongs to Tarre Vizlsa, who left it with the Jedi because he knew
What it meant (i.e, their lives) and that it was proper for Jedi to take the lightsabers back
How it could be used by Sith or even Mandalorians with less than peaceful intentions
And also, we know what Armour means for Mandalorians, it wouldn't surprise me if he gave his armour to the Mando's and the Lightsaber to the Jedi, so that they could do the correct rituals of when someone dies.
The Lightsaber was Stolen from the Temple, not liberated, and since then used against what Lightsabers are meant to: help defend the peace and protect people and not strike down innocents.
It was never meant for that, and it was, again, Stolen from the Temple, so even if you are hard on Tarre Vizsla's Lightsaber being used to define the next Mand'alor, then the line of people that followed the Clan Vizla member that Stole the Lightsaber isn't worthy of the title or even in the competition.
If you want that, then you should find out how Tarre Vizsla died and if he died in combat, try to find what happened to the person who killed him and try to follow the line, because those are the ones who, by the idea that the Stolen Lightsaber being won in combat and thus the next Mand'alor is born, are worthy of the title.
Also before you come and say that it was liberated, literally Pre Vizla says they Stole it, he is part of the clan, and he admitted to that. Other Mandalorians either don't know the truth and were fed propaganda, or know it but refuse to accept that Tarre Vizsla's Lightsaber was Stolen.
