im drinking water! wow! I love hydrating myself! maybe you should do something like that too
do you run in the snow
As the mod from Alaska— yes! When I was still able to run, we ran in the snow all the time, considering that we have snow where I’m at from pretty much October to May. As such, it isn’t uncommon to put screws in the bottoms of your shoes for extra traction on ice
Example from google images:
Or using removable cleats like yaktrax. Without something like that anything icy is legitimately terrifying. Don’t be a hero, don’t risk running on ice without being prepared. Even if you don’t fall, slips risk pulling/straining muscles. I would know, I’ve done it.
My advice for winter running is twofold: know the temperature, and know your body. For example, when I could run, if it was the current temp where I am (28^F) I would have cleats on my shoes, gloves, and an ear warmer on, but otherwise wouldn’t bundle up (tee shirt and shorts). Some people would choose to wear long pants and a coat in the same weather.
Learn the temperature you run at, be aware of the terrain, and don’t be afraid to alter your route if something doesn’t look safe or your body doesn’t feel right. Some hills are just not worth braving in the ice, man— and not being well fueled, or not stretching well enough can seriously ruin your run.
And afterwards, as goes with any time your shoes get wet, make sure to put them somewhere they’ll dry you don’t want trenchfoot.
TLDR: Yes! Very carefully

Can you walk instead of running? Genuinely asking.
you can do whatever the hell you want. a walked mile and a run mile are the same distance. this IS a running focused blog, though, so you might not enjoy our posts if walking is your preference.
There was a girl on my cross country team in high school one year who could only walk. She had a knee injury or something (it’s been a moment tbh) that caused running to be too high impact— but she could absolutely walk the courses.
So she did.
She was a valued member of the team. Maybe not in terms of scoring, but she was kind and caring and loved to be out in nature getting exercise as much as the rest of us. Did it look different? Of course. But I think that, if you want to do cross country, but you only can/want to walk? You should absolutely still go for it. Just remember to hydrate, even if you aren’t running!

Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
why do i follow you? i don't even run cross country
hell if I know???
im in cross country rn and i've had to resort to shoving my arm into thorny bushes (lets me ignore my legs) to keep running 😭
have you considered... literally any other method of ignoring your legs? like meditation, perhaps
I love that we all just know and accept that some of us are running races so damn long that hallucinations are a common, unworrying part of the experience
I have an idea for you -@i-suggest-sitting-on-the-floor
im not opposed to this. but why us, a cross country blog?
well, I figured yall are probably somewhat tired
y'know... yeah. we ARE pretty tired. let's sit on the floor

Garmins should have an "I'm sick / injured" mode where they stop telling you to train and tell you to calm the fuck down
I'm proud to say that, after 24 years of life and half of that spent running, I still have no idea what garmin is <3
cross country was fun when i did it because some of the people were pretty cool, but i was never really any good, never seemed to get better, and my feet are flat as hell so i was injured frequently. still feels bad to walk sometimes.
saw a deer once though, that was cool
it is not about being "good." it is about the joy it brings you along the way
I walked up a sinfle flight of stairs and now I'm close to death is that normal?
no. you're dehydrated, or asthmatic, or ill in some other way. I know everyone jokes about dying after a single flight of stairs, but a human at normal health can easily scale several flights of stairs and experience only mild fatigue and breathlessness that resolves within a few minutes.
