"I am an honest man, when I'm not lyin'..."
That moment when you find out a band you love have re-recorded your favourite song: A Day Dark with Night by Junius
These are my top ten albums, in no particular order.
Jungbluth - Partache Crust and melodic hardcore bands the world over are gutted they didn’t write this album. Melody and aggression in perfect balance. Storm und Drang.
Carcass - Surgical Steel This album is so much fun. Constant riffs,...
I’m always hesitant to do these lists, because either (a) I inadvertently exclude what’s obviously an essential album, and/or (b) I inevitably draw the ire of other listeners who feel personally insulted that their favorite bands aren’t represented. 2013 was as exciting a year for heavy music as...

He Whose Ox is Gored - Nightshade EP
A mix of post-rock and post-hardcore with experimental leanings, wrapped up in a huge coat of shoegazey doom-tastic riffage. A groin-moistening combo. Name your price!

End Times - Descension
Some seriously aggressive metallic hardcore, leaning heavily towards death metal / thrash metal. Excellent find, and great artwork! Name your price!

THIS IS TRUE DEATH METAL YA BASTARDS! Indeed, Martin.
Focus on these words, and whatever you do don’t let your eyes wander past the perimeter of this page. Now imagine just beyond your peripheral vision, maybe behind you, maybe to the side of you, maybe even in front of you, but right where you can’t see it, something is quietly closing in on you, so quiet in fact that you can only hear it as silence. Find those pockets without sound. That’s where it is. Right at this moment. But don’t look. Keep your eyes here. Now take a deep breath. Go ahead take and even deeper one. Only this time as you start to exhale try to imagine how fast it will happen, how hard it’s gonna hit you, how many times it will stab your jugular with it’s teeth or are they nails?, don’t worry, that particular detail doesn’t matter, because before you have time to even process that you should be moving, you should be running, you should at the very least be flinging up your arms – you sure as hell should be getting rid of this book – you won’t have time to even scream. Don’t look. I didn’t.
Yep.

Amiensus & Oak Pantheon - Gathering
Two brilliant releases this week and two bandcamp links! This split EP between two great folk / black metal bands from Minnesota can be played / downloaded / purchased from either bands' bandcamp pages. Both songs are amazing, and links to both band pages are below. Name your price!

No Trust - Unfound
Noisy, dirty sludge of the highest quality. The vocals are utterly monstrous.

Great band, still going strong.

Review: Black Dogs - Grief
Modern, metallic hardcore from up north. A storming debut album; totally unrelenting. Reminds me of Cancer Bats when they first released Birthing The Giant. Toured with Hatebreed earlier in the year.

Metalcore. Done well.

The perfect accompaniment to midnight musings and a bottle of whiskey. I'm hoping for rain tonight.
