Here's an idea,
Maybe we watch the girls and father come on stage and work together to decorate the room and the tree, which would mean they would then all have to watch their work torn down because of their actions... Please be ready to give feedback on this idea at rehearsal on monday.
-Ro, Dramaturg.
I totally think that in this prodution, Lear used to be this guy. He had the lady, he had the house, he had the beautiful Christmas tree. There was nothing he couldn't have. This production makes me face the fact that he no longer has that for himself, and must go from 10 all the way back down to zero by the end of the play. Based on the images you have given us, we see him nearing the end of his perfect moment (like the one shown above). We see his beautiful tree, and his beautiful daughters. We see presents piled high, and this production is about watching that get taken away from him and how that affects him mentally. I need to dig into Lear's past in order to help Lear through his future because that is what I feel I am doing in this case as an actor. He must find his way to the end of his suffering and he must protect his body while it is in crisis. That is what I, as the actor playing Lear must do, but cannot do unless I work with the director/dramaturg to decide what exactly was in Lears past.Â
