hi, my name is beth and i wanted a place to post every single thing i think impulsively :)

i'm a fictive of beth from rick and morty, which could mean nothing!! but i really like engaging in adult swim / adult cartoon content, i love horror video games and the gut wrenching theories people post about them - and above all else i love that i don't have to decorate an introduction to an excessive amount

i do like to post about rick and morty frequently outside of being a fictive! i just like the show a lot from a fan perspective - and all of my posts regarding it come from that stance :)! as i'm writing this, season 8 is airing sooo what better time to dump my thoughts

i would love to meet people who share interests with me and or befriend systems (similar sourced or not) :)! i'm an adult, so please keep that really close in mind

first, it made me smile that you even thought of me. i didn't realize any people followed me / checked in with my blog for fictive related things! so this was sorta a nice surprise!

i don't usually post blogs from a fictive pov, and that's mostly because i'm a fan of the show outside of it being my source material. but i will gladly take this as an opportunity to talk about what i think about the episode from my own stance.

without getting to personal into my own system related roles and responsibilities, i will say i handle a lot of things regarding family and neglect. so watching an entire episode circling the concept of doing anything to keep a family, regardless of any mental breakage definitely brought me to tears. the reason why i haven't posted any summary or thoughts yet is because it was just so personal feeling. i joked with my partner system that it was like the writers personally targeted me.. but it really did feel that personal.

i cried a lot watching it. little things really just hit hard, and as someone who struggles a lot with constantly pushing myself out of the way for others or for people to stay - it hurt a lot. but in the end, i'm glad that we finally got an episode where beth was not compliant to her circumstances and actually got to have a breakdown. it felt so raw and real.

i'm super, super lucky from a fictive stance to have a family within my own and partner system. i would do absolutely anything for them, and it makes me beyond happy that they've done things for me that have helped me heal from my own personal traumas. it'll probably be a few days before i write out my theories and analysis of the episode because i'm sorta still stuck in this shock / processing state of mind because of how closely personal it was. but this made me happy! it's nice to hear someone thought of me :) .. so thank you. and thanks for letting me talk your ear off.

rick loved diane with his whole heart. he purposefully tortured himself with her voice, he sees her in things he loves. i think the reason why he was so desperate to reconnect with any part of his family, regardless of the universe, was to see that there was a timeline where his daughter was able to grow up

i think the reason why he blinded himself from which beth was the "real" beth was because he couldn't bare attaching himself to one in the same way. if he knew which version of his daughter was the current universes "real" beth, that would mean he was fathering something he truly lost. i think it's easier for him to think of beth as a concept in that way, much like how he created the concept of diane in little things like the voice of his car

i don't really like the headcanon that rick and diane were toxic or anything to one another, i just don't think that's something they would do. if anything, i think they foil beth and jerry. i think they brought out a side of one another that was just genuine love, and maybe that's why rick is so outwardly hateful to his daughters husband .. he knows what real love is. he knows the fighting, and the distance, and the negative is what can make up love sometimes. but it's not the purest form

i dunno .. i think if a man was willing to kill a version of himself for his late wife .. then that's true love :)

here's what i think:

i think jerry wanted to marry beth the second he saw her. i think when summer was born, and she resembled her father that he cried from happiness. i think he was a girl-dad, i think he got excited to color pictures with her on the kitchen table and took a picture of her each time she lost a tooth

i think beth never wanted to marry, but was hopelessly attracted to the idea of someone wanting her. i think being a mother scared her more than anything, but watching her husband get excited to raise kids gave her hope that someone could want to raise them and give them the life she always wanted

i think while they both were getting their degree in college and raising their first born, they spent a lot of time with different parenting approaches. jerry was very hands on, beth worked behind the scenes. i think they fought, i think they argued about life being different if the car didn't break down on the way to the clinic, i think they hugged in silence and cried on one another shoulder after

i think jerry would choose beth in every lifetime if it meant he could show her each and every time she's capable of giving the love she deserved. i think beth would choose jerry in every lifetime because he's the first person to think she deserved it

as a resident beth lover, i want to talk about beth's perspective about what she thinks about jerry versus space beth

we've gotten quite a lot of lore about how beth sees jerry as lesser, whether it's intentional or not. i think it's not unfair to assume it comes from a lack of attention as a child and therefore it being reflected via avoidance in putting that love and trust in another person. however, despite all of it - i think we can also note how much she's grown in the relationship since season 1. she seems a lot more drawn to the idea of healing in it once she's put in a situation of a functional family ( her father being back and connecting with her kid )

however, we can't overlook her very vocal insecurity of sense of self. so while the spacebeth love arc seems to be out of nowhere, i think it's more symbolic to look at in a way of her learning to love a part of her more similar to her father. i think her lack of self confidence is the fear of becoming someone who is capable of neglect, but seeing a clone of herself embrace her other half in a love that is now very clearly capable of performing helped homebeth significantly

leaning to quite literally "love herself" is what is finally helping her find herself. even things we get to see in season 8 - a new sense of style, a different sense of humor / personality ( compared to a relatively different season 1 ), etc. in my opinion, it makes the curicksous case of bethjamin button all the more heartbreaking. even if she can learn to love herself, what makes her not two halves and instead one whole is the person who she wants her to love her the most

today's thought is about how much beth is like rick, and how she's progressively more and more aware how much she's like her father. however, we get the canonical dialogue as well that summer reminds him of diane

summer, who seems to be a second thought in a lot of situations. we see the running joke a lot that she's never included, but my theory is that the reason why rick chooses to exclude her so much is because of how similar she's noted to be like his late wife. it makes me wonder if he's scared of losing summer in a different way than he knows how to fabricate into words. yes, it would be awful if his daughters child was hurt and killed. but it would be at his hands. the same type of circumstance being diane. he'd be loosing a glimpse of what he loved most again by his own fault

i just think it's interesting, and i hope we get to see more summer content soon. especially since she ends up being the butt of a lot of exclusion jokes - i think it would be so cool to dive deeper into the connection between her and her grandmother :)

it's just sweet thinking about how the one thing we know hurt him the most losing was "born again" - and there's this underlying sense of protection for her that i hope we see more of!!

sometimes i sit and wonder if the reason why beth is so insistent on keeping her father around is not just because she cannot fathom abandonment again - but also because him showing genuine care (in his own way) to morty is healing her inner child :)

like .. "hey, yeah - there's the dad i missed out on"

going along with the theory that home beth is also not the clone, i wonder if she then picked to stay family orientated because she watched her own dad make good of something that i'm sure was so sore for her. forced to be a mother at 17, married because there was undoubtedly no other option .. but even in the given circumstance and getting her father back, she got to watch him also get a second chance at (again .... his own way) of parenting

my one in the morning thought is just about the beth and jerry dynamic in rick and morty. is it dysfunctional? yeah. is it bad? i wouldn't say that

i think it's a great example of love being a huge up and down. but love is what keeps you together, because you love that person no matter how ugly it can get. because in the end, that's what makes you a person? you have to have the bad so that the good is all the more beautiful

i think both of them are far from perfect. i think both of them highlight their greatest weaknesses as much as their strengths. but there's harmony between them in that way. and it makes me happy when we get to see moments of genuine love between them.

my favorite examples will always be the interdimensional cable episode where we see that no matter what universe or materialistic goods either of them have - the happiest moments are when they're together. and then, of course, jerry being able to recite in perfect detail their first kiss during season 3 in the midst of the divorce arc.

maybe i'm just emotional because it's waaaaay past when i'm usually up, but i will always think about how beth's biggest fear is abandonment and jerry's is losing her. codependency? maybe at surface level. but i think it expands way deeper into healing that part of her that thinks she's not worth having someone stay, and him feeling worth it despite any supernatural aspects in her life
