indeed, the city could be both a blessing and a curse. a lot of the time, there was misfortune lingering in air of the cityscape, but it was not always so. just as he had some happy memories back home, he had some in this place as well. despite the odd shenanigans of the scientists that went away almost as quickly as they’d started, many cherished memories had their origin in the Hive. it had taken a long time to get to the point where he could appreciate these memories and he clung to them now, as he was brought back again.
Suzaku could not remember what it was he did when he left, or even that he left at all, but waking up was all he needed to know. of course, a flurry of thoughts swarmed his mind as they so often did, but he pushed them down as best as he could, exiting the room.
as he did so, he noticed he was rubbing his ring finger with his thumb, idly playing with something as he thought. he remembered as soon as he looked down and saw the band that one of the cherished memories he had was directly connected to that engagement ring. if he still had it…perhaps Euphie was…?
no– there was no use wondering about something if it might not be true. getting his hopes up was the last thing he needed. yet…
no sooner had he turned to confirm his suspicions was he pulled into embrace, effectively stopping his words in their tracks, a flash of a smile and familiar pink hair entering his vision. she always did know how to make an entrance, a fact that made his own smile brighten his features. wrapping his arms around her, he chuckled, unable to help himself.
She’d heard stories of people who had left the city once, and came back with no memories of their prior stay. That was likely something she should have considered, before she ran so quickly and hugged him so tightly. If he had returned with no recollection of their time together, than this reunion would be going in a different direction than she had intended.
But that wasn’t the case, thankfully. His words put her momentary worries at ease, and in return, she pulled back-- Not far enough to create any real distance between them, only to press her forehead to his.
This was her Suzaku. The one she had spent a year in the city with. The one who had seen every part of her, physically and emotionally, and the one who she loved with every fiber of her being. This was the man she was going to marry.
“Suzaku...” His name was a mantra, one she would never tire of saying. Tears chose that time to make an appearance, too, welling up at the corner of her eyes yet not quite overflowing. “I never want to be apart from you ever again.”
