the thing about getting out of the torment nexus is that you do start thinking "man if you ignore the torment i used to have a lot of fun in the torment nexus"
“I just think that the more realistic and specific you are with the details, the more universal the story becomes.” — Viggo Mortensen
I hate that ‘bad dream’ just means ‘nightmare’ instead of ‘shitty quality dream.’ I had a bad dream last night. It wasn’t scary it just didn’t make a lot of narrative sense

The series finale episode for Stranger Things was truly, objectively awful when put under even the slightest bit of scrutiny. Long established aspects of the power system were completely abandoned, such as the fact Will should also feel the hive minds pain. The mindflayer fight was truly anticlimactic and disappointing. The Abyss being devoid of all the monsters and vines we have encountered in the upside down over the years makes no sense. The only explanation would be that all the demos were absorbed into the mindflayers main body, like with the Flayed in S3. But the Duffer brothers THEMSELVES did not even think of this, because when they were asked about this plothole in an interview they just said "The demogorgons were...somewhere. It's a big planet." So it wasn't their intent. Fan theories understand their worldbuilding more than they do. It is like they don't even care about their own established world at all.
The El vs Henry fight in the rainbow room from s4 was better than her final showdown with Henry. We only brought Kali back so she could convince El to die.
Even though I did not want to see El go, I hate Mike's theory because if NO MAIN CHARACTERS DIED, then the stakes are TRULY nonexistent. At that point, I'd rather we have at least one main character death and Mike's dumb theory be wrong.
The only highlights of the episode was Jamie Cambell Bower's acting and Dustin honoring Eddie at the graduation.
There was so much potential and all it built up to was a complete airball of a finale that just completely forgoes the world and the rules of the power system.
The Mindflayer definitely seems like one of the Outer Gods from the Lovecraft mythos, like Azathoth. A lot of these major Lovecraft entities have been featured as monsters in D&D and one of the creators of D&D said Lovecraft was one of his main reading recommendations for DMs looking for inspiration. Azathoth has been interpreted as a sentient black hole, and I think Vecna's whole castle and the entire wormhole itself are parts of its body, which is why everything is so fleshy.
I'm so glad Mr. Clark is finally in the central loop instead of an unknowing helper!
I was going to say that the scene with the Demogorgon's in the laundry room with Running Up That Hill playing wants me to suspend my disbelief a bit too much and I'm genuinely disappointed in the Duffer brothers for letting something that ridiculous get put into the story, but I think it might actually be a hint as to how Will survived in the Upside Down by singing "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?"
It's the only way to justify it I swear to god
