Hello, this is my Art Foundation blog! There will be a consistency of Art, Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, some inspiration, University Courses I find interesting and plenty more creative material. I hope to post at least once a week, with new artistic ideas, inspirations and final outcomes. I also hope you take joy in my work, and inspiration.

This week we have been given the task to create our own composition interpretation of an renaissance painting into a more contemporary manner piece, using inspiration from music/fast food/ clothes/ labels/ imagination. The pieces above were previous paintings I used and digitally manipulated to hold a modern meaning.

Today I have completed a basic drawing of the main character from the book The Giving Tree. I will complete more drawings and produce more digital outcomes, and possibly also do some water colour drawings of this character. I also need to create characters of this boy in other stages in his life

Jon Klassen is an illustrator I am particularly interested in due to the simplicity in his final outcomes. Subtle dots and textures create a sense of a floor and pattern to this piece. It is easy to understand considering there is very little detail to the subjects.

This coming week I will Illustrating a book of my choice. I enjoy drawing animals in particular, so I plan to concentrate on animal books when choosing a book to illustrate . And the medias I wish to use are collage, painting, and digital process.

Contextual Reference

 Eric Carle is renowned for his 'Hungry Caterpillar' book Illustration, he has also illustrated many other books using the same mixture of medias. These include acrylic painting, collage of tissue paper and various other papers.

Chilli Poster This is my final Chilli Festival poster, I begun by creating pencil and linear pen drawing, and afterwards applied colour and texture and tone to another piece of paper in the shape of the previous peppers I had drawn. I then scanned in my drawings and digitally progressed so the colour and linear drawings became a single image. I researched food festival posters to get an idea as to what composition I was going to use. I found the poster below of a food and wine festival, and found the colours, text and composition appealing, therefore I used this poster as my main inspiration.

I am pleased with how my book cover has turned out, I like the composition, colours and use of collage and digital progression. To improve this album cover I would change the typography

I want to produce a lino print with a hidden message, I will use the myan’s alphabet and numbers 1-27 to create this piece.

Gerry Baptist used a variation of medias, such as acrylic paints, charcoal, lino print, screen print and collage. The pieces I am more interested in are his lino prints, because I hope to make intricate lino prints this week!

My most favored pieces of Baptist's include his 'Seven Deadly Sins' pieces. They were created using a wood block, similar to lino. This is why the prints are circular, I think this makes his prints more admirable.

Paul Furneaux is an artist who works with Japanese watercolour woodblock printing (Mokuhanga). I like how Furneaux maniplates the perception of angles in the first painting. I also like the various textures he presents in his prints, I hope to learn and produce similar work to Furneaux in the coming two weeks.

The artist Alfons Bytautas and Paul Furneaux are the contextual artists I have researched to influence me in my prints Observational drawing projects. I will begin my creating a viewfinder, using it to contract shapes from the buildings surrounding my college and finally create an architectural process.

Alfons Bytautas is a printing arists who has contributed to the research pioneered at Edinburgh Printmakers. He particularly contributed to the alternative printmaking techniques including acrylic resist etching and photo-polymer. 

Alfons has lead workshops at the Amsterdam Graphic Atelier and the Frans Masereel Centre in Belgium where he was invited as guest speaker at the symposium on ‘Printmaking and Ecology’.

I enjoy reading his linear prints and as the viewer having to figure out what Alfons portraying within his paintings. I would like to use this use of linear in my own works. His paintings will participate some influence in my own prints I will come to produce in the following weeks.

We have been asked to Illustrate four to six inside book cover pieces and an outside front back and spine cover for the book Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas using linear art and collage.
