This weeks Sunday morning sketch is a pan pastel and colour pencil piece with a splash of white ink. Some of you may remember my mouse piece a couple of weeks ago which I created in this very same style. I'm trying to use pan pastels (a powdered pastel) as a base layer and colour pencil as my detailing layers. This week I tried it again but using my watercolour paper. The pan pastel went down lovely, but unlike the pastel paper, the light colour pencils don't blend over the pastel layer. The two materials just don't blend well, so it turns out the pastel paper with it's extra tooth is better for this style. Still, I'm very pleased with how this cute little monkey turned out. I call this piece 'Big Eyes'.
