Damian: is your throne made of bones?
Danny: Huh? Oh, yeah! They were all donated to me by some of my subjects after my coronation.
Damian: You sit on a throne... Of charitably donated bones?
Danny: Yeah? Where else would I get a bunch of bones?
Damian: The cliche is usually a throne made out of the bones of one's enemies, is it not?
Danny:
Danny: Babe.... My enemies don't have bones.
I would think in ghost culture giving someone your bones is a very personal thing. A display of unfailing trust, absolute devotion, utter adoration.
To ghosts, this throne is a sign that Danny is a very beloved King.
Ok but the evil/demonic tropes being actually a sign of a benevolent monarch? The potential misunderstandings?
The bone throne means his people trust him and are devoted to him. They donated a part of themselves to build his empire.
The spooky lighting means his (glowing) subjects are obvious in the room. He's not trying to drown them out with bright lights and make them invisible, he's depriving himself of sightlines to make sure his guests are visible.
The towering ceilings give his people room to move, giving them a tactical advantage should they need to dodge. It's considerate to give them space to protect themselves.
Even the idea of a King sitting on a throne at the focal point of the room is considerate in that it allows people to clearly see where the threat is, and maneuver themselves around him should they need to.
Arming himself shows respect, that he feels the need to have weapons around you because you're a potential threat. Formal speech is precise because he's aware of the threat of species like the fae, who deal in words, and he's being cautious because he knows words can be a threat too. Any challenge to your beliefs or authority is a test, because he's a cautious and respectful King who wants the best for your people, so of course he will test your emotional mettle to make sure you're up for the task as their spokesperson.
All together, he's terrifying for mortals to meet, because his cautious and respectful gestures read as intimidation to them.
Earlier there was the courting gift idea so here's a little way to add that back in to have an oblivious Danny under all that respect: which bone is donated is also important. Just a little phalange? A sign of trust and respect but not much. Femur? That's an important bone! It's big and there's only two, that's a lot of respect! A single rib? Kinda sweet but not something special. Your entire fucking ribcage or even your fucking skull? Damn, that's a lot of respect and trust and devotion. That's a damn commitment. If it's not a courting gift it's still a symbol of unending eternal devotion.
Now imagine what donating your entire skeleton to join the army he inherited from Pariah would mean.
Wouldn't donating you entire skeleton mean "I am willing to put everything that I am, my last tether to existence, on the line to protect you"?
Yes. And also "I trust you to protect my last tether to existence." I would assume Pariah using his skeleton army to attack was like very abusive and gauche.
It could say something about Pariah and his reign before tyranny and madness.
To have such a vast army implies either masterful tactics that rarely cost casualties on his side (thus allowing his army to stay big and strong even without a constant supply of new recruits), a great deal of faith and good will from his people to keep donating more troops, or both.
If he always attacked and conquered with reckless abandon, he'd inevitably lose a lot of troops. And if his people didn't believe in him or his cause, who would have volunteered replacements?
Also would be interesting to see who meets you with assumptions versus who meets you as you are! Danny is friendly! Polite! His surroundings seem scary... but that COULD be cultural! (And, indeed, it is!) Do you assume the worst? A trick? Or deal with him in honest and good faith?
see the "donating your whole skeleton" thing like... Danny's like. "What if I didn't make them fight at all?"
Have y'all ever heard of the Army Corps of Engineers?
Danny leading his skeleton army to construct and maintain civil infrastructure projects in the IR. Or maybe even in recovery and reconstruction in the human world...?
awesome girl with a REALLY lame crush. my favorite

someone help jazz.............................
First piece for @green-with-envy-phandom-event this year! This beautiful lineart is from @ovytia-art <3
Concept art of Dan's feral/hardcore transformation.
I have my thoughts and concerns about the series' future (if they decide to move forward with the GN story), I would really love if they still keep Dan's OG form because... well, he's technically possessing a body so he's still there somewhere.
My concept of this is he only goes FULL-HULK-GHOST if the situation demands it but at a cost that he can't retain that form for too long.
I love your halfa jazz ideas! The first design has an awesome color pallet, the death marks on the second look really cool, and I love how feral the pose in the third one is!
*taking notes* I see I see..
Thanks for the feedback dear anon
some danny doodles for you on this fine evening

PHANTASTIC PIECE OF WORK! I LOVE HIS EYES, HOW LONG HIS GHOSTLY TAIL LOOKS AND HIS POSE AND LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE 💚👻
I can’t believe I come outta art block for this
So I've recently come across this really cool post by @isosceles-is-never-here and GOT ABSALUTLY HOOKED ON THE IDEA.
I think that in my version, Danny is a hero, which travels down to the underworld to visit the shade of an old friend (Haven't decided who yet). The only reason he is able to get inside the underworld in the first place is because of his half ghost and shade king status. Unfortunately, Hades does not appreciate him being in the underworld, so he has to fight his way down.
At first he uses his ghost form to try and sneak around but gets recognized very fast.
Every time he gets all the way down, he has only a few hours before he gets sent back to the surface.
Zagreus can encounter him when he stops to rest, in a room packed full of shades. He gives Zag the option to trade some boons with him, and as the relationship gets more hearts, he eventually appears in the lounge from time to time to hang out before he is returned back to the surface.
Zagreus escape attempts are useful to him since they distract Hades from his own break-in attempts, so if they find themselves in the same battle room, Danny will do his best to help him:)
Whoops I forgot to post my stainglass style Ember…
a kind of continuation to this
