Traditional chinese craftsmanship for architecture and furniture 榫卯 sǔn mǎo
The mortise and tenon technique does not use glues or nails and creates furniture that is usually very strong and durable.
This is carpenter Grandpa Amu making a Luban stool out of a whole piece of wood using traditional chinese joinery technique 榫卯 sǔn mǎo.
These craftsmen have it mastered beyond our usual use around here You will often see a single pattern dovetail on expensive furniture, but the more complex ones aren’t just to be pretty… They offer amazing strength as well. Nails and screws have the disadvantage of a single point of contact per fastener, creating a point where the wood can strip easily. The dovetail has the advantage of the entire joint being used for strength instead of a single point. On it, the wood would have to actually be broken, not just stripped at a single point. Even the one done with a wooden pin still uses it’s entire surface area for strength instead of just the pin. It’s hard to give a sense of the precision required without the reader or watcher actually trying to re-create it though. These craftsmen are talented and experienced, and it shows in their beautiful work.

I need everyone to understand that embroidering on tulle and other sheer fabrics is incredibly difficult. This artist has learned to keep the tension just right not only in her thread but also in her hoop. This is really impressive
People who don’t understand the difference between punishment and discipline should, like, never have kids
hey op i dont understand the difference could you please explain?
Yeah ofc!! Sorry for being vague I was just venting and didnt expect reblogs haha
I’m gonna try to explain my point through examples.
Ex 1: toddler screaming and crying in the walmart
Punishment: I’m going to spank you or embarrass you or yell at you! Shut up! I’ll give you something to cry about!
Discipline: stop doing what you’re doing because it isn’t productive and it disturbs others as well as increasing your own upsetnes. I’m going to take you out of the environment that’s upsetting you until you’re calm and we can identify what upset you together so I can explain to you why it’s like that/help you find ways to productively express upsetness as you grow.
Ex 2: your teen is failing, like, all their classes
Punishment: you’re grounded! You’re not allowed to go out with your friends or play games or do anything fun or enjoyable until your work is satisfactory!
Discipline: it’s important to do well in school. You need to communicate with me when you are struggling so I can help you. You also need to learn to manage fun stuff and work as that’s an important life skill in adulthood. I’m going to monitor your work more closely so I can help you find that balance. And if this is a deeper mental or emotional issue, we can seek help for you together.
So basically, discipline is something you teach that requires time, communication, and sternness. Punishment is a single action meant to deliberately cause discomfort in an attempt to implement negative reinforcement. Not good.
#HUMAN YOU ARE HERE WOULD YOU LIKE A PILLOW
That… actually seems like a really smart idea?
I bet you these dogs used to bark like crazy whenever someone approached the door. Training an animal to stop doing something is way harder than training an animal to start doing something most of the time. So, solution, train the dogs to start doing something like, say, picking up a pillow whenever someone approaches the door, and as a side effect, they don’t bark at the person because (a) they’re distracted searching for the pillow and (b) it’s kind of hard to bark when you’ve got a pillow in your mouth.
that’s seriously brilliant
My parents’ dog has a whole crate of stuffed toys, and he picks one for every visitor. The beagle toy is the default, but he will often dig through the box trying to find the right toy. He often brings me the crocodile which I bought for him, or a large frog. He also has four pigs, and those are for special friends. Only family members are greeted with the biggest toy he has, the Great Pig of Honour.
#i have never loved dogs more than in this moment
