Week Nine:
I have chosen to stick with the picture book that my partner and I have used as part of our Assignment Two. I absolutely love this text and would love to use it as a mentor text in my future classroom one day! The text is called The Heart and the Bottle written by Oliver Jeffers. I chose it because I love how the book has come to life with the use of spoken words/narration, expression (audio), visual, interaction through the use of ICT and touch technology is what makes this story come alive. I would use this text as part of a mindfulness unit in my classroom. I love how this text can be both powerful by being read, spoken to students raw and also even more captivating in a multi-modal form as seen in the above demonstration. The reason why I love this book so much is how flexible and open to interpretation it is. Each person who read’s this book will have different opinions and understandings of what the author is trying to convey to its audience and it is through the powerful imagery and symbolism. It enables the reader to take a step into the shoe’s of the little girl and sympathize exactly how she is feeling as most of us can relate to the experience of loss or grief shared by the passing of a loved one.
LITERACY RESOURCES!
For week seven, I have found two really informative and engaging resources that teacher’s can use to help provide very informative and engaging teaching materials. The first resource I found was a web page called Teach Starter. https://www.teachstarter.com/learning-area-au/literacy/
Teach Starter incorporates a variety of primary teaching resources that teachers can use when teaching literacy concepts. On this web page, there is a vast collection of resources to use over a diverse range of topic areas, such as grammar, phonics, reading, speaking and listening, spelling, writing, punctuation etc. These resources encompass unit plans, lesson plans, worksheets, games, activities you name it!!
The second resource recommended for teachers would be FUSE (Find, Use, Share, Education) web page.
This website assists teachers by providing them with resources explicitly aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. There are resources, ideas and case studies specifically embedding the use of ICT.

The Little Bookroom Children's Bookshop Melbourne Carlton North. World's oldest children's bookshop since 1960. Storytime, special events. Open daily
The Little Bookroom is the world’s oldest children’s bookshop since 1960. The Little Bookroom is located in Carlton North. This place is a great investment for teacher’s to come explore what’s to offer and an excellent place to find great quality children’s literature. This cute little establishment is brightly lit up and stocked with a vast array of children’s literature, suited for babies up until mid teenage years. The book store also provides a large reading area at the back of the store where young children are welcome to come chill out, explore and read amongst themselves. There is beanbags and cuddly furry friends to complete the mood for any fairytale to come to life. Not only does this store just sell books to the public but they also offer story time services every Thursday and Friday in the morning for the little ones, bookclub for primary aged students and most importantly for the adults, restaurants close by...
During my two weeks on placement this year in a prep classroom, I was able to create a simple but effective poster to assist my students in remembering the three fundamental steps in ensuring that they were able to construct a sentence effectively. Step 1 being to remember to always use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, Step 2 being to ensuring that between every word we must leave a space (I was able to create little spacemen for each student to utilise when making space between their words and lastly, Step 3, ensuring that at the end of a sentence there is always a full stop to indicate that it is the end. This particular poster became extremely useful for my mentor teacher whom included this into every writing introductory lesson plan. I was very proud of my efforts and creativity with this poster.
I love this picture book dearly as it fosters all the right messages directed at younger children that promote self love, respect and actualisation. My mother would often read this to me across my primary school years, especially after the death of my beloved grandmother whom I lost at 9 years of age. Coming into contact with my first ever proper experience with death/loss was not something I dealt very well with and can still recall the moment I was informed of her illness and remember curling up into a ball like figure on the bathroom floor. This book focuses on the importance of what it means to self-regulate in difficult situations and how crucial it is for children especially, to nurture in the habit of taking care of ones self at a young age, so that by adulthood, we will become equip with the knowledge and resources to deal with stressful situations.
