It is over, and it has been for seven years.

We have just returned from a trip to Transylvania. It was almost strange to walk through that land again, but it was nice to be able to do so without fear. The castle still stands, abandoned, stark against the stunning landscape, but it no longer houses the evils that gave it such presence, and it is now nothing more than a beautiful old building, as it always should have been.

Mina and I have a son, born on the anniversary of Quincy Morris' death. He was named after all our dear friends, but we call him Quincy. One day, he shall know everything; for now, he sits on Van Helsing's knee, giggling and playing with his fingers as he talks.

We are happy, as I almost feared would never come to pass. But it is true, and I shall be forever grateful for it.

Oh! It is Halloween already... I had not realised. The turning point between seasons, the sunset of the year before the darkness of winter, the thinning of the veil... not the night I would prefer to be hunting a vampire on, but we are here all the same. And thank you; we may need all the luck we can get.

i think what i really like about today’s dracula entry is van helsing going “btw mina your husband isn’t insane, there’s an actual, literal vampire out there. and obviously that’s not great but his mental health is fine”

and idk, as someone who is being negatively impacted by The Horrors, i found that comforting. of course you feel bad. there’s a vampire.
