Exegesis Paragraph

          The story of Abraham’s life was a very significant one. In this story, God formed relationships with man, and he showed us that we can and should trust in him. The end of the story has a really good lesson. The story teaches the reader to believe in and to trust in God, because he always knows the right path for us. Abraham’s story takes place in the form of a book, more specifically, as the Book of Genesis within The Bible. Personally, I think that the author’s main purpose of this story was to teach us that we should trust in God, and that good things come to those who trust in God. The original language of the Book of Genesis is Hebrew, as it is the first book of the old testament. This story took place in approximately 2000 BC. In this story, Abraham first lived in Mesopotamia, but moved around a lot before ending up in Canaan. The settings for Hagar and Ishmael included Mesopotamia and Canaan, but also the desert in Egypt once they were sent away.

Abraham Chronicles

Wow guys that story was pretty intense, there were definitely ups and downs, but I’m glad to give y’all a happy ending!! Abraham’s life was a really wild ride, my dudes.

Genesis 20-21

At this time, Abraham was still living in Gerar. Naturally, the king didn’t completely trust him after he almost sinned with Sarai, so he made Abraham promise not to lie to him or his children or anyone else again, and in return Abraham could continue to live in Gerar.

Abraham complained to the king since his henchmen seized his well, and he gave the king some sheep and cattle in return for recognition that the well did indeed belong to Abraham. That agreement was called the treaty of Beersheba. 

After this, they all lived in harmony in the land of the Philistines.

Genesis 20-21

So of course Abraham wasn’t thrilled about sending away his child, but God consoled him and reassured him that it was the right thing to do. 

Hagar and Ishmael ended up wandering the desert for a pretty long time, so long that she was afraid he would die. Of course God wasn’t about to let that happen, so he created them a well, so they could have water on their journey.

Okay so after that, it turned out the Big G pulled through! Even though Sarai was super old, she got pregnant (yikes I feel bad for her like she was ooold.)

Anyways, they named their son Isaac and they were reallyyyyyy happy. 

So I know in one of my earlier posts I kinda skipped ahead to this part already; but after Sarai and Abraham were able to have their own kid, Sarai didn’t want Ishmael around anymore, so he and Hagar were sent away.

Genesis 20-21

Okay so a bit of time had passed and Abraham (even though he was like eighty lol) moved around a lot, and ended up in some town called Gerar. Since Abraham had a kid with another woman, he pretended Sarai was his sister. When the kind of Gerar heard this, he took Sarai. God came to the king in his sleep saying that he would be punished for taking a married woman, but he didn’t even know she was married. The king and God talked it out and it was agreed that there were no bad intentions, and the king would return Sarai and continue on with his life. Needless to say, the king wasn’t super happy with Abraham for doing him dirty like that. They too talked it out, and everything was g. Abraham prayed to god to not punish the king or his people, and prayed for his wife to be able to conceive.

Genesis 16-18 pt. 2

Okay guys so back to Abraham and Sarai’s handmaiden, whose name was Hagar, by the way. Hagar ended up getting pregnant and her and Abraham had a son named Ishmael. Even though Sarai gave them the okay to have a kid (she just wanted Abraham to be happy y’all), she, like anyone would, ended up getting SUPER jealous and had Hagar and Ishmael exiled.

Genesis 16-18

Okay my dudes so lemme learn you a thing. Once upon a time, there was this dude named Abraham. This guy Abraham was pretty cool right? So God revealed himself to him, and promised him the land of Canaan, prosperity, and a son from his wife Sarai, even thought she was really old. Abraham was like “Yeah man this is great!” but was pretty skeptical that Sarai could bear children, due to her age. So he goes and does the deed with, wait for it.... HIS WIFE SARAI’S H A N D M A I D E N!
