i like to imagine that the real writer gustave, the one who doesn’t occupy the verse, feels immense guilt wrt real verso’s death. despite gustave himself not being the one to orchestrate it, nor was he privy to it happening because he is not part of the writer’s council.

post verso’s death, he consistently dreams of bringing verso back - dreams of the two of them happy - he’s never been a good writer, but even the most mediocre reject writer with the blood of a writer is still a writer. so he writes—

writer gustave au. verso, who is dead irl, is perpetually the main character in gustave’s (uni)verse. originally gustave who is genuinely not a good writer wrote this verse to cope with his shitty life but post verso’s death gustave gets a little too codependent and freaky cause it’s his verse and he can write whatever he wants 😋
