The final film
a practical participial effect for when the planet splits apart in the film, this however was not used as it was too soft an effect, I instead made balls of clay, which were allowed to harden in the sun, before being suspended along a length of metal and shattered with a hammer in order to get a realistic fracturing of the planet.
The film, which was previously titled 'Absolute by Horizon' is now finished. The name was changed because I felt the original title did little for the film, it was never something I particularly cared for, So the film has been re-named 'A Handful of Dust' a title that is a reference to both T.S Eliot's poem 'The waste land' and also Jim Jarmusch's 'The Limits of control'
The Poem, which was the original catalyst in the films narrative has also been cut, perhaps one day I will release a version with the poem in it. however after much deliberation and test screenings I decided that the poem actually took away from the film ,it made the visuals secondary and forced the audiences emotions, which was something I was keen to avoid.
Its all done and now all that's left is to get it shown to people.
