7 Ways to organize your laptop because we can always be a little more organized on our devices (including myself).
the rug is out so it’s officially cozy and autumnal in here…now to get down to the piles of readings i have✨
December 28 2017
I’m applying to be a New Student Advisor guys!!! I rEALLY hope I get this position because it’s something I’ve really wanted to do for so long now, and if I am hired I can answer all these tumblr questions with more credibility hehe.
What are some things that you would look for in a New Student Advisor? Reliability? Confidence? ???
your art is so beautiful!! but i think any advisor should be very open and have a really good patience!! reliability and confidence is also important!
In this post, I’m going to talk about the study methods that have worked for me and that I learned during my time at UCLA!
(see another post like this about being healthy here)
Short Term Productivity
Use a stickynote/index card and write a couple goals for today only. Don’t write too many or you will feel overwhelmed! Stick it on your laptop or planner or notebook (somewhere you will see it)
Have a whiteboard at your desk and write down things you need to remember (like a simple equation or some vocab)
While waiting for something (the bus, your coffee, the shower to warm up) have something to recite in your head (probably something you already know, but would like to reALLY KNOW)
When you read, try to tie big concepts to things you would remember easily (like acronyms or symbols) like for example i remember gen chem oxidation as OIL RIG: Oxidation is Loss (of electrons) and Reduction is Gain (of electrons) and I remember the first four unordinary hydrocarbons from Me Eat Peanut Butter (lmao): Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane
Longer Term Productivity
Plan out your weeks!!! Plan when you will study on each day of the week and keep track of due dates
Make it a habit to do homework/assignments AS SOON AS YOU CAN (like right after you snack or something after classes)
Try not to think about how long you will study and rather think about the number of topics you will study
Don’t stop until you feel confident in your knowledge OTHERWISE YOULL JUST LOSE IT IT ALL
Keep your notes organized because you never know when something is gonna bite you in the butt again in the future
Review everyday. Like, Serioouslyyyy. It helps a lot.
Read before going to bed instead of being on your phone for 400 hours :C I THINK ITS TRUE THAT THE STUFF YOU READ BEFORE BED STAYS WITH YOU BETTER BC YOU GET TO SLEEP ON IT
Try to keep your area quiet or have only white background noise because if someone is talking about the weather and you’re studying math, best believe you’ll only remember the weather
Reading a Textbook
Most of the time, you don’t need to read the introduction paragraphs.
Read the bolded titles to see what you will be getting into
Before class you can skim lightly!! It will help you not feel lost in class
AFTER CLASS you will now FOCUS YOUR READING ON WHAT WAS SAID IN CLASS because most of the time, class-covered topics ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT! save yoself some time!!
When reading after class, do NOT just read. If you go over something that makes you go ??? in even the slightest way, read it again to understand. Look it up. Do it in THAT moment because you’re gonna forget to do it later.
If you don’t wanna read the whole darn book because ur lazy (like me) or you are cramming, READ!! THE!! SUMMARY!!!
The back of the book might have some seriously useful appendixes
Try not to skip the diagrams and pictures lol they’re there for a reason
Taking Notes in Class
dont be on your phone or whatever during class time Like actually PAy attention because if you learn it now, you won’t have to try to learn it again later (you can be on your phone later)
Take down everything written on the boards FOR SURE because if the professor/teacher thinks it’s important to write it, you better think it’s important too
Be an engaged listener! Don’t let it slide straight thru ur head
Try not to scribble your notes so you can read it later
Make CLEAR HEADERS for the topics so you can find those notes quickly
Def make friends in class in case you miss something on the notes ://
Doing Practice Problems and Homework
Get yoUR HOMEWORK DONE FIRST OF ALL
Homework is seriously a great study tool because your instructor assigned that FOR A REASON (aka it’s prob gonna be tested on)
Try to know what you are doing before you start the homework so that you don’t feel lost as heck doing it
When doing practice problems, if you have the answers, don’t be afraid to look at the answer the first time around if you don’t know how to do it. IVE SELF TAUGHT MYSELF SOOOOO MUCH by just looking at the answer to a question.
DONT RELY ON THE ANSWERS THO
Don’t memorize how to do the practice problems, you should memorize the method of solving the problem and understand each step clearly (and understand WHY you do that step!!!) just in case the test pulls some funky stuff on you
The more you can do, the better. But don’t be sleepy and do them because you won’t really retain anything
Other Random Things
My organic chem professor actually did a funny study on sleep and test scores. He said on his final exam he asked “How many hours of sleep did you get last night?”
and like obviously the more hours of sleep reported, generally the higher the student scored on the exam
SLEEEEPING IS GOOD FOR YOUR LEARNING
WHEN YOU SLEEP AND HIT THE REM CYCLE, YOUR BRAIN PROCESSES THE INFORMATION BETTER and it will really stay with you. So yall need to sleep. Don’t do the all nighters. You won’t remember anything
anyways like nike you should Just Do It
I hope you guys find this useful!! Remember that everyone has different needs and preferences, so take these tips as just tips and not rules!! Experiment with things, see what you like best, see what gives you the best scores.
Good luck with everything~ thank you for reading!

How to stay ORGANIZED!!!
Staying organized is really helpful if you want to get into the vibe of studying. Sticking to minimalism is a key point while staying organized. We have to make arrangements or preparations for our study space and as per our necessities and materials which we need while studying.
Here are few tips which I like to follow to stay organized :
Make your bed once you wake up: This may sound like a small point, but if you make an effort to put this into your routine, you’ll be much more able to stay organized. An unmade bed is a sign of a disordered life, and the sooner you make the bed, the better you’ll feel about facing your day. Seeing a neatly-made bed before you start your daily tasks can make you feel like your life is in order and that you’re capable of facing the day. If your bed isn’t made, it’s much more likely that the rest of your bedroom will look chaotic, and that you won’t be able to stay as organized as you’d like.
Make a to-do-list for the day: You should make a goal of creating a to-do list at the beginning of every day. This will set your priorities for you, keep you focused, and will make you feel accomplished for doing the things you set out to do. However, different forms of list making work for different people, so you shouldn’t feel compelled to do exactly what wiki how or other websites tell you to do; find a list-making method that works for you and stick to it.
Have you study area neat and tidy and keep things to minimalism: Minimalism is the ingredient to live a simple, focused, well-curated, and meaningful life.

This is normally something that should be simple, but it’s surprisingly hard to find the right type of music to suit your study mood. I have plenty of friends who’ll choose to jam out to Kendrick’s new album, and while that may be great to to listen to with friends, it’s just a little distracting when it comes to studying. Hopefully I’ll be able to provide you with some great music you can use to help ace your next test!
Italicized = a personal favorite
Classical Music
I actually don’t like listening to composers like Mozart or Bach when I study, because their music is exciting and it’s meant to be listened to, which means I normally end up listening instead of studying, which can be a problem. Instead, I like to use movie soundtracks, because they’re meant to be in the background of something. Plus, they’re often really, really nice.
Guardians of the Galaxy (A bonus on these two – sometimes the song titles are really funny)
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2
Lion
***SKIP THE FIRST SONG, IT IS BY SIA AND WILL NOT CALM YOU DOWN!***
Moonlight
***SKIP SONGS 1, 13, and 17!!! THESE SONGS ARE NOT CLASSICAL AND WILL NOT HELP YOU STUDY***
The Theory of Everything
The Harry Potter Movies
(This is not my playlist! It just contains all of the movies’ soundtracks. Individual ones will be linked below.)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone// Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets// Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban// Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire// Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix// Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince// Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1// Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2
Ambient by Mixhound
2 Hours of Piano Music by The Soul of Wind
(Don’t let the video itself fool you! The music here is really nice, whether you’re into anime or not. I’m personally not, but I use this all the time!)
Relaxing Music
Sometimes you don’t want to listen to classical, or maybe that’s just not your style. Here’s some more music to match your tastes!
aesthetic study music: a playlist by Lauren Co
Anything by Adib Sin is really frickin’ relaxing.
Petit Biscuit! A really nice, upcoming electronic music artist.
Moist AF: a playlist by Adib Sin. It has some nice electronic music.
Moosetape, Vol. 6 also has some indie-electronic vibes, but it’s definitely a little different from everything else on the list.
Studyblr Introduction
HI,
I am a newbie to the #studyblr community. I am actually inspired by @studyign @studyquill @emmastudies @equantis @studyruels @studywithinspo to start a studyblr and a studygram @study.dying. I really wish that this community will really motivate me to be here and share my ideas and thoughts.
I am also a bullet journal lover and love @bohoberry for her bullet journal
I am only 14 years old and in standard 9th. To tell my fav subjects are Science, Maths and of course Arts. I am quite lazy when it comes to sports.
When it comes to music I love listening to kpop, jaaz, ballet music, and bascally all the genres. My fav kpop band is “bts” and “blackpink”
Welcome to the community
Do u have any tips on making creative ideas for bullet journals? And how to make them neat and good looking?
hmmmm i usually get my inspiration from quotes and colors. i want to try to be original when it comes to my spreads, so i don’t look at pictures of other people’s bullet journals when i start a new week or anything like that. it’s surprising to see what you can come up with when left to your own devices.
don’t stress too much about neatness / looks because honestly, to you, it might look terrible, but other people can’t even see the infinitesimal “mistakes” that you think you have. experiment to see what you like. sometimes, you just have to make without thinking in order to find what you really do like.
Room Organization Masterpost!
Hi everyone! I’ve been obsessing over masterposts recently, and decided to make one of my own. This is going to be all about organizing and cleaning your room, with some of my tips. I haven’t seen many posts about full room cleans, which kinda surprised me because I find that when I have a really organized and clean room, it is much easier for me to stay motivated and excited about being productive. Anyways, let’s get started!
1. Put yourself in the mood for cleaning: Alright, this sounds a little weird, but get yourself set up to clean with some background noise and whatever else you need. I like to bring in a pet to have some company in my room (I have a dog, any other animal that you have I’m sure would work too though hehe). I also like to put on some youtube videos in the background - the video in the picture is by @studyquill :)
2. Time to Start Cleaning!: First, I like to start with making my room LOOK clean. There is a difference between looking clean and actually being clean (the difference being if your room is organized as well). So move any clothes off the floor and bed, do laundry, make your bed, take out the trash etc.
3. Throwing Things Away: If you’re anything like me, you probably have quite a few piles of notecards, papers, dried up pens and more that you should’ve thrown away/recycled a long time ago. Go ahead and get rid of that. During this phase, I also like to look through my closet and dresser to find any accessories and clothes that I no longer wear to donate and/or sell.
4. Makeup and Hair Products: If you don’t have much of this that needs to be organized, you can skip this part, but I know that my makeup area gets super messy (even tho I only use like 2 products?? idk.). Organize that into a free space you have in your room, or in your bathroom if that’s what you prefer. Also make sure your brushes are clean!
5. Organizing Stationary: This part is always the hardest for me, but definitely the most satisfying. First, I go through all my pens and test them to check for dried out ones. Then, I find any containers/jars that I can organize the pens in, and then separate my pens by brand, most frequently used, and/or types. Next I get all my stickers and washi together and organize it into a basket of its own. Refer to the picture below to see how I like to organize everything.
6. Desk time!: Finally, you’re going to need to organize your desk/study space. My desk is always a mess, so it’s always nice to get it cleaned out lol. First I like to organize my favorite books and notebooks into an aesthetically pleasing array just cause that’s fun. I keep two notebooks on my desk, a travel book, a beauty book, a writing ideas journal, Winnie the Pooh in Latin (lol if you didn’t know I take Latin haha), a ‘Pick Me Up’ journal, and a meditation guide book. Then, I clean everything out and organize cubbies/drawers into sections. The sections I usually have are pens, tech, random things I don’t want to get rid of (literally random little trinkets that I just have too much emotional attachment to), and other supplies. In this step I also make sure my calendar is updated because I know one time I had a September calendar up and it was literally April… oops.
I hope you guys enjoyed my first ever masterpost! I really enjoyed writing it, so if you guys have any requests feel free to let me know what they are and I’ll do my best to write a post about them. (also I use @emmastudies printable calendar just for reference)
