as @my-dark-shines commented before the theory is the following: matt bellamy was abducted by aliens back in the absolution era but the band decided to continue touring so they replaced him

Now, I kinda have a complete theory:

Soldier’s Poem is an alien folklore song that was passed to us through the doppelganger of real Matt Bellamy, who was actually abducted by aliens during the Absolution era and replaced by a bit defective clone, who constantly messes up the embedded memories. That is why not real Matt thinks that he “wrote” Soldier’s Poem before BHaR and that it is on Absolution. This can be proved by the fact the doppelganger doesn’t have the unique feature of the real Matt i.e. THE REBEL TOOTH

Oh my god I just pictured like… they abducted original Matt during the Abso Era, and then replaced him. this guy was 21 when he did this. he went to the st. mary’s church to record the organ you hear in this song - an anti-religion song - at 21. that beautiful bassoon solo you hear on the second verse? that’s actually his guitar. and he cites tom waits as the main influence for this song… i’m posting the instrumental because it amazes me that someone that young had the mind to create this - as most songs on that album - but go check the album version because, the same guy who did all this, also hits a g5 on the last chorus.
