need new methods to let out anger that arenât just posting and deleting tumblr posts LOL
Hey! I am really late with this, but I though that some of you might like to see how I make my monthly spreads. I did this sort of âinfographicsâ (??? am I even allowed to call this thing infographics??) and even though it looks like this, I had so much fun making it :D. I really donât know whether this is helpful or not, I tried. In case youâd like to see more tutorials (and hopefully better ones) in the future, let me know please? And thanks if you read it till the end, itâs so long :D
(I totally ran out of space for pictures at the end lol)
MISSIONER Ottawa alt-rock band Missioner (MI) is riding high off the release of their recently released self-titled EP. Latest release: Missioner (EP, July 2016)
Upcoming shows: August 11 @ The Atria. Oshawa, ON. August 12 @ Club NV. Brampton, ON. August 13 @ Smiling Buddha. Toronto, ON. August 14 @ Doors Pub. Hamilton, ON. August 20 @ Ask A Punk. Ottawa, ON.Â
SA: How did Missioner start, and when did you start playing together? MI: Weâre all friends from high school so weâve been jamming since then. Through the years weâve gotten to know each other very well, both musically and on a personal level, and so Missioner today is a culmination of all that time spent together.
SA: What bands or musicians would you say are the biggest influences on your sound? MI: We all come from very different musical backgrounds, but we have a certain group of bands that we mutually enjoy. Some of which are Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, and Blink 182. A lot of the late 90s, early 2000s, alternative rock/pop punk influences shows through in our music.
SA: Thus far in your career, what has been your biggest accomplishment? MI: The whole process with our most recent EP has got to be our biggest accomplishment. Weâre very happy with everything from the music video for âFingernailsâ (with the Trenches Media), to recording our EP at Shoebox Studios, and our upcoming tour booked with Ryan Fitz from the Indie Scene. It has all been very exciting and weâre extremely happy with how everything has come together.
SA: On the other hand, what is the biggest challenge you have faced, and how have you dealt with it? MI: Our biggest challenge has been coordinating everything for the release. Its quite a bit of work to be balancing out with our jobs and personal lives, so weâre very happy that all the people involved with the release have been very flexible and easy to work with. We managed to stay focused through it all and set deadlines to assure that everything was out on time and of a quality that we saw fit.
SA: What are your thoughts on the Ottawa music scene? MI: From the musicians to promoters and to everyone else involved, the scene has grown a fair bit over the past few years. You tend to see fresh faces at every show, which is a good sign of the scene growing. You used to see tons of people move to Toronto or Montreal to grow their music careers, but the more time passes the more people have started to stick around Ottawa and in turn have created a more viable music market.
SA: What was your experience like working at Shoebox Recording Studio in Kanata and how did the recording sessions go? MI: Recording at Shoebox was the fastest and most efficient recording process I have ever been a part of. Bryan (Ruckstuhl) and Jon (Chandler) work to really push the best performance possible out of us. Theyâre easy people to work with and their studio is beautiful - its a great environment for musicians to feel comfortable in. We really couldnât recommend it more.
SA: How does your new EP compare and contrast with your 2014 effort, The Loneliest Place? MI: The Loneliest Place was recorded over a period of months as opposed to a week, the impact of that kind of process allowed for too much time to overthink the songs, which lead to them feeling very stale when we released the EP. Our songwriting process has matured a lot, due to experience, our own maturity and expanding our musical influences. I think these songs have a lot more depth to them, making this EP something we could be really proud of.
SA: Now, a question just for fun: what is the bandâs favourite song to play live? MI: One of the songs on the EP entitled Keep You in Mind is one of our favourites to play live, its a very energetic and dynamic song.
SA: Lastly, whatâs on the agenda for Missioner after the release and moving forward in 2016? All the best, guys! MI: After our August run, weâll be playing a few Ottawa shows, one of which is Zackfest in October, its for a really great cause and we encourage anyone to come out and support. We hope to do a couple more out of town shows, as well as recording another single, which should be out before the end of the year. Thank you for the interview!

How to start studying
or how to get motivated to start.
hi! today i thought to make a small mp on how to get started studying or doing that assignment youâve been putting off for⊠wait, how many days?
[these are all just methods that i use/that work with me! iâve seen many people say the exact opposite of what i mention in this masterpost works for them. use what works for you and donât what doesnât!]Â Â
so, letâs get started!Â
I. sometimes, the best way to start is to force yourself.Â
set a timer for three minutes and tell yourself that when those three minutes are up, youâll start.Â
or, for example if youâre scrolling through tumblr, tell yourself youâll scroll until you see x type of post.Â
you could say âiâll continue until i see a text post that does not contain a pictureâ, or âuntil i see a post that has under 100 notesâ, anything that isnât really obvious at first glance.Â
the good thing about it is that it forces you to keep an eye out for a post and, if youâre like me, youâll get really really annoyed very soon because youâre tired of looking out for this type of post.Â
just. do. it.Â
if you really donât want to, set another timer and work for two minutes. usually (at least for me), after these two minutes, youâll be focused and âintoâ the work; youâll continue to work even when the timer is up.
if you still donât want to work at all, relax. take a break. do something you enjoy. then, when youâre happy, take profit of the time to work!Â
similarly, tell yourself that youâll only study for x time (preferably something not too long but not too short either â this depends on your focusing ability etc.). after that, either you stop (if the work is done or youâre really exhausted) or you continue (if youâre motivated enough).Â
II. but motivation also has to be coming from yourself.Â
this part does not help you in your current quest to get motivated enough to start studying, but it will help in the future. in the best case, you are motivated intrinsically, which is the best way to stay motivated.Â
as i will mention later, itâs important â and will be important for the rest of your life â to have interest in what you are doing. it has to motivate you to learn it because of how fascinating it is. (obviously this does not and cannot apply to everything. but find something â anything â thatâs interesting about it.)
find out why you are studying.Â
for your dream career? to make x person proud? to become as great as x person? anything like these goals can motivate you.Â
III. find out whatâs keeping you from studying.Â
if itâs your phone, turn it off.Â
i mean it. turn it off.Â
you could also use an app like Forest (which iâve already mentioned but itâs seriously gold).Â
maybe the material is boring.Â
find a way to make it interesting.Â
maybe youâve never made mind maps before â then try that out on the subject.
find something you find interesting about the subject. it can be as far-fetched as you want. it can be relating to anything you want, as long as it âinspiresâ you to learn. Â
maybe you donât know where to start.Â
make a checklist of everything that has to be done/memorized/understood for the exam/assignment/whatever and the tasks you have to do. Â make sure the different tasks are easily manageable.Â
for example, for an oral presentation, you could have âresearch [x part of topic]â, under that âmake notes on [x part of topic], âwrite essential bullet points on [x part of topic]â, you get what i mean.
subdivide the tasks as much as you need to make the assignment seem easy.Â
maybe you are so un-motivated that you just donât get the point anymore.Â
point II can help you, but sometimes it isnât enough to tell yourself âif i study now, iâll be able to work at x job that i really want to work atâ.Â
reward yourself. it can be as little as âif i complete this assignment, iâll go buy myself Starbucksâ.Â
it will last for this one assignment or this one exam, but i really recommend, ultimately, to find your source of inner motivation.Â
IV. if you just canât seem to get startedâŠÂ
ask someone of your family/anyone that is in the house with you (if you donât live alone) if at x time, when you want to start studying, they can take your phone away and remind you that you asked them and that you should start studying now.Â
honestly this is one of the methods that are the slowest to work, but i still thought iâd put it here:Â
scroll through your dashboard or through a studyblr (even better: through their motivation tag if they have one) and wait for a message to come up that says something like âclose tumblr; go studyâ.Â
this always guilt-trips me personally.Â
so i hope this helped you! i feel like this is so incoherent and redundant haha no self confidence here. feel free to suggest other masterpost ideas (because iâm always looking for some ahaha)!Â
