@absynia
It's been years, Tumblr. Hello again.
Tomorrow for the last @athensfarmersmarket of the year, I am whipping out the naughty and funny holiday cards for you last minute shoppers. I'll have everything you need for your gifts, from the actual present to your gift boxes, bags and cards. Christmas and Hanukkah came fast as hell this year so I've got your covered. Kwanzaa is also looming so don't forget those thoughtful gifts as well (and yes, I have a card for that!) See you soon! #Absynia #shoplocal #farmersmarket #handmade #SMALLBUSINESS #madeinathens #madeingeorgia #slowfashion #allyellecards https://www.instagram.com/p/CI9dMpHBa46/?igshid=17rqc3y6jmby0
Hm, maybe I should get into ornament making 🤔 https://www.instagram.com/p/CHrEQ8uBQA6/?igshid=yox4r0y194p3
Holding space again for Black women who are once again feeling a profound disappointment and sadness with how close this is. All year people have been saying "Black women will save us!" as though we ourselves are not humans with our own concerns and as though, to paraphrase Malcolm X, we don't catch a flu when the rest of America gets a cold. Be so, so selfish today, yall. Protect your peace, do not answer that unnecessary ass call, say no, sleep in, dust, go to bed early, buy yourself something that has been in your cart for awhile. Wear lingerie and remember that you are divine and divinely made. Fuck what bitter, hateful people are trying to say about it all. P.S. if you're getting a gift for a Black woman today, ESPECIALLY if that Black woman is you, leave a note and I will upgrade your order to include free gift packaging. (It will ship 1-2 weeks AFTER Nov. 6th , as I am on a mental health break) #Absynia #allthewomeninmearetired https://www.instagram.com/p/CHLGygPBcAC/?igshid=1r569zxp4o4i7

To say I have been moving through mud lately is an understatement. I know I am not alone in my worry for our future, our sisters, our bodies, our children and our dreams but it still feels like an isolating heaviness. I recently had the pleasure of hearing Sonia Sanchez's "Catch The Fire" (Sidenote @mishatrillxxl +@lovecrafthbo, you really did that) and it was an unexpected balm and reminder that we get through this together. We rest, we find our fire, we live. Today I am taking the day to find my fire, to pass it on, to livelivelive. I humbly ask you to go take a listen, it's on @Spotify and to feel what it brings up in you. This is how we get through this. We've (unfortunately) been here before, this is how we got through it. #Absynia #restasresistance #blackwomentoknow #soniasanchez #blackjoy https://www.instagram.com/p/CGxfBMwBnz3/?igshid=y3v9b8elziz6

There's a saying that goes "wherever you go, there you'll be" It's coming back to me now as I try to navigate being dissatisfied with where I am, currently and still working from home, in the midst of it. Wherever you go, wherever you are, there you'll be. I didn't understand it before but I do now. Wherever we are, we are there with our attitudes, our frame of mind and baggage. We can be in situations that aren't ideal and hate it so much we get into a rhythm of being miserable. We can want better, not settle and still find reasons to be grateful in the here and now. I'm being reminded through this that developing a routine of gratitude will shape how we show up in the places we want to be. 📷: the vintage pewter altar dish with burning eucalyptus. I wait for no one to give me the beauty my heart aches for, I don't wait for anyone to recognize I deserve flowers and pearls. I fill my cup, I water my garden, I attend to my blooms. It's nice, of course, if you come with your bowl ready to share but either way, my table will be set and my garden tended to. 🌻🌼🌻 📷: the freshwater pearl ring (now available in size 6+ 8, only one of each left), the sunbeam ring and the gold bangle #Absynia #wildwoman #bohemianstyle #bohochicjewelry #etsydoesit # https://www.instagram.com/p/CGSyNBSBgJc/?igshid=bx4f0utpoj2b
Love is a verb, it's something that must be practiced. When done right love can make the reciever feel protected. I have been thinking about protection lately, in a very material way and how, I don't feel it. I believe in divine Love and yet, I haven't felt that protected. I'm returning to crystal work in the hopes of exploring whether or not I have decided to close myself off to that feeling because of fear. I'm leaning on protection stones as I deepen my exploration of these feelings. Banded agate is one that I particularly resonate with. It's known for being especially helpful in cutting ties to systems of beliefs, mentors and gurus who we have outgrown but aren't letting go. It's a stone perfect for organizing your spiritual life and clearing out the confusion. I want to get clear and so it's one atone I am particularly drawn to right now. I could go on and on (and am curious if you want to hear more) but I'll end it here for Insta's sake. 📷: The jewelry and the inspo. Been quieter on social media while I work on orders and getting things ready for the holidays. I know the algorithm is not considerate of that kind of thing so just popping in to say hello and show love to this ridiculously good pairing. I love when you guys go through the shop and create your own, unexpected sets. Back to get your orders ready and prepping for the @athensfarmersmarket Saturday! #Absynia #makersmovement #makersofinstagram #afrobohemian #etsydoesit https://www.instagram.com/p/CGGjVUNBUj7/?igshid=tj0tioam8kws
Right now it feels like a lot of things are working in tandem to make us feel less than. It's a feeling that comes up when we see the unequal application of the law, when it feels like we are too small to make a difference. I am learning again and again why Audre Lorde said caring for herself is an act of political warfare: when we are overwhelmed we become compliant and/or (depending on our privileges), complicit. I have been dealing with a lot personally and absorbing a lot on the world stage and it has paralyzed me. When I take the time to pour into myself and remind myself I am worth more than I am being given, personally and politically I feel fueled to live what I believe in and to fight for it. I find the strength to say,again, these are my boundaries and they will be respected. I've been doing a lot of crystal affirmations and chakra work around this and will be sharing some in my stories throughout the day. 📷: the last of the protection necklaces fting #carnelian #Absynia #crystalmeditation #makersofinstagram #afrobohemian #bohochic #blackwomenownedbusiness #blackbusiness #bipocowned https://www.instagram.com/p/CF-SV6Vhpi4/?igshid=ubf6vjdbdfok
Never thought I would be the kind of gal to sport "simple" jewelry but I am in love with this vintage chain and these little ear huggies I made for myself (the Africa asymmetrical version is on the site, these feature Jamaica's outline). I'm trying to get back into the habit of dressing for work and having a schedule. These just fit where I'm at now. September was a blur of sweatpants and anxiety, yall, I can't even lie but I am committed to not taking that energy with me into October. @deerene__ has been posting a quote again and again "accept this as if you chose it" So here's to fresh starts, first steps and new energy. What will you be doing differently in October? https://www.instagram.com/p/CF0GxwIBpKj/?igshid=1di6qvf4i9t70
When I was younger, I used to think my people were obsessed with this thing called "badmind". "Badmind" can best be explained as directed negative energy. Every time something bad would happen you would hear "see badmind!" As I get older, so much of what my elders thought makes sense. Jamaicans are an incredibly diverse set but we have never been characterized as a humble people. We do not shrink ourselves anywhere and I can see how that would attract anger and hatred from those who want Black people under their feet or nonexistent. No wonder they were always thinking about and actively warding off badmind. I'm thinking about this so early in the morning as I process just how much hatred is being fomented, how much was just under the surface waiting for an excuse. It's been scary for me to notice open hostility in this very town, hostility that people at least used to check or hide. I'm thinking in new ways about the cultural practices of Black people across the Diaspora that us younger, "modern" folks have thought of as superstitious. How much of it must have been rooted in warding off the old hatred taking center stage? How interesting it is that right before this, so many of us across cultures in America have been called to the traditions we were told to cast away, ancestral communication, ATF, Hoodoo, Ifa... Against badmind and the Evil Eye, is the All Seeing Eye, a symbol said to protect against wrongdoing, there is the blue door in Geechee culture. Reminders that this hatred is not unconquerable. 📷: Limited edition eye earrings. #Absynia #morningthoughts #goodmorning https://www.instagram.com/p/CFw8dgABBET/?igshid=bsjsm36twhew
New earrings just hit the shop and they feature a stone I think we all need: sunstone. Sunstone seems to have it's own internal light, glowing and sparking even in low light. It invites the wearer to do the same, to use your light in service to others and your greater mission no matter how dark things may seem at the moment. It is said to stimulate your confidence in your purpose and creative pursuits ehile easing fear. The darker sunstone is used for root chakra work while the brighter ones are good for sacral chakra work.
