ArtFight is around the corner again and like a very casual reminder it is supposed to be for fun. I've seen a lot of people bring up how they'd like to participate but it's too stressful and it isnt supposed to be. The whole thing is just a backdrop for some fun art trades.
On that note I've seen some people genuinely stress about making reference sheets for all their characters and spend all their energy and enthusiasm on making ref sheets and then not have energy to make art when the Fight actually starts. You dont necessarily even need a ref sheet if you have any art that shows most of the character. Hell even using a base for that should be fine. You also dont need to list every oc you have, given that most people will only draw one character of yours, so having only a few is entirely fine.
Anyways! Youre doing it right if youre having fun ArtFighting! No need to stress about it!
I've also seen a lot of new people say they'd like to join but they only do traditional (totally fine!), worry they're not good enough (no need to worry about that, I and many others pick characters to draw based on design and not skill level), they feel like they will be failures if they dont make x amount of art (just one attack will brighten someone else's day, I made three drawings last year, you dont need to make more than you have time & energy for) or that they wont get any art (most people will at least try to attack back those who drew for them so if you draw for others you have a good chance to get art)
Also it helps to have different types of characters, such as animal & human, because not everyone can draw everything, variety can help (for example I have human/humanoid, animal/furry and mlp ocs listed for my page)
