I do wish the Destiny news had come when the story was in a spot that was...cleaner. 2 separate, but related, threats got added to the plot; one immediate, and one overarching. There were also distant monsters that needed to be dealt with. After 12 years, the big story arc came to an end, and a new one, with new promises was just opening. We got 2 relatively short chapters over the course of a year, and then it was shitcanned.

I was saying yesterday, this reminds me of the end of Bionicle. A story that had more plot planned, and the first "part" ended after 10 years. They were just getting into new territory when the line was cancelled. And it could've been fine if it ended right there, but the author tried to push through and write more content, to tell more stories, to give us something for the new world that was being built. But between writing 3 story serials, being the editor for Lego magazine, and being brought in to write for the 2 themes that replaced it, he ended all 3 stories on cliffhangers and never returned. That's where Destiny is now. With no path to a resolution for the stories that have been started. With more questions than answers.

I mourn for what we could have had. They planned to make Destiny multimedia, they planned for TV or film, they had a collection of comics titled Volume 1, they could have had more. But it's too late now. There won't be a TV series, or books, or comics, or podcasts, or any of it. It's over. Yeah, it'll still be playable. But you won't be able to reach for the new threshold, there won't be a conclusion to the story. The villain won't be unmasked, the monster will never return with her army, we'll never know what was planned, or how it would unfold. And the loss of the story hurts the most.

well, that's it then. no more live-updates for d2. i am not sure how to feel right now to be honest. i am sad, naturally. i am gonna miss spending launch days in a frenzy or running around in new content with my friends.

and i will miss getting new storybeats and character moments.

but it is what it is.

it's gonna be so hard for me to leave this fandom behind eventually, but i will keep this blog as long as i comfortably can (aka until i run out of content to post).

its good to acknoweldge the hollowness of revenge but sometimes you really do just need a story about someone who gets hurt and then kills and kills and kills and kills their enemies. its cathartic, babey.
