I extremely don't understand whenever someone who's mentally ill and unmedicated is like "I'm afraid to go on medication because what if I can't feel good without the meds?" YOU ALREADY DON'T FEEL GOOD WITHOUT THEM. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF TAKING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE

genuinely one of my favourite details about Bram Stokers Dracula that isn't really transferred to the pop culture is that vampires have irridescent eyes, they appear brown at a glance, however when light is reflected on them they seem to go red!

another thing that pop culture latched onto is this idea that you might use a wreath of garlic bulbs to ward off a vampire, however, in the book there is a popular use of garlic blossoms rather than the bulbs. i think these are a lot prettier and way more versatile for stylisation! you could have a garlic flower crown.

you ever tried to help a teenager study for something or help with homework, and you try to explain the concepts to them and you can tell they are not paying attention but they are still nodding along and saying "yeah yeah, i get it" and you ask them to repeat what you just explained and they stop and try to do a half hearted effort to regurgate the one or two words they remember but eventually they have to admit that no they dont remember anything and they werent paying attention. and you are like "why did you tell me you understood when you didnt then?" like you can tell their priority here is not to learn but to get your aproval. they just want you out of their hair. you were explaining it and they were not getting it and they didnt stop you, they wanted you to believe they understood so you would leave them alone.

i understand this. i sympathize with this. when you are a teenager school can feel and in fact can be a waste of time where you are cramming useless information to please the education system and it has no bearing on your life, your interests or your priorities as a teen.

what ive seen in my job is that a lot of actual adults have this exact same attitude when their doctor is explaining to them their medical conditions and their treatment

#the thing i don't think people get #is that school isn't necessarily about teaching things you need for life #in fact i haven't used half of what i learned in school #the point of school is to learn how to LEARN #because learning never stops #you have to understand how to properly absorb information #and somehow that is a skill kids these days seem to be lacking #i don't need to know the biology of a worm to navigate my adult life #but i did need to learn how to fill out reports because technical language is common and useful #same with learning how to read #you need these things to survive #and you need to know how to properly learn so you can keep growing once you go out into the world #otherwise you're going to end up lost and confused #and unable to pull yourself out of that hole
