My name is Ash. I am a longtime fan of Thomas Sanders, and have been in the fandom for the last 7 years.
I am seeing things that I feel need to be talked about and I want him to do better.
We can be critical of things we love and enjoy.

Thomas sanders adopting a dog before making the Sanders sides season finale was not on my bingo card.

I feel like he didn't adopt Jessie. I think his parents did. All of the videos and photos he has posted has been at the shelter or his parents house.

Or, I guess it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume he underpaid the photographer since he normally does weddings. He also doesn't have very many followers, so it would also be safe to assume that Thomas asked for a lower price in exchange for publicity.
That's pretty interesting that as soon as he got a hot-selling item in his store, he magically has enough money to get a photoshoot done.
Thomas is friends with Aleks so I doubt he's paying the full fee but if he were a good friend he would.
Because Iāve seen some confusion due to the, once again, vagueness of the very brief mention of whether Iām receiving royalties for my merch designs on TSā shop or not after I stated, months ago, that I was not and he, in his most recent video, stated I was.
The royalties are a very recent development that I am pleased about and grateful for. Every little bit of support that I can get for my work will help me as I am still job hunting after being laid off.
I will say though, royalties were something I requested for several years while working there and was consistently told no. So it really did not get offered until a while after I was laid off and I know that is because good intentioned voices spoke up about the matter. Thank you. š

Thomas' new YouTube video has a thumbnail that VERY obviously uses an AI background. Has he done worse stuff? ABSOLUTELY. But this is still a low point even for Thomas.
The Sanders Sides fandom thrives off of artists whether it's drawings or fanfic writers aka people who HATE ai with a reasonable passion. Thomas constantly acknowledges those artists so it's just insulting if anything.
I know the description of said video says Lev created it not Thomas but he still posted it and numerous people are calling him out. I'm not saying he needs to make a big deal but he just needs to say something about it. Even if it's just "My bad I should've checked. I'll try and prevent this in the future."
Knowing Thomas he probably won't.
THOMAS IS USING AI TO MAKE HIS THUMBNAILS
There are really only two ways this background couldāve been made: either itās an image from Google, or it was hand-drawn. A quick reverse image search shows itās not on Google, so thatās not it. But the stars are so messy that it clearly wasnāt hand-drawn either.
There are other weird details tooāThomasās shirt blends into the background in the bottom left, the lighting doesnāt match up, and the red glow around him is uneven. On the left red side, thereās this odd spot where a highlight fades into a dark purple, and that only happens there. Even if someone used a Gaussian blur, the red would still be consistent, but itās not.
The thumbnail is credited to Lev in the description, but from his socials, it doesnāt look like he has any qualifications to be doing thumbnail creating. This makes it seem like the job got thrown at him last minute. He probably just slapped the image of Thomas into Canva and used the AI tool to generate the background, which makes sense if Thomas didnāt want to do it himself.
According to an anonymous source, both Lev and Quil have asked about using AI, suggesting that they are pro-AI and that this is likely not the only time this will occur.

Honestly my biggest fear for the season two finale (which I still believe weāll get eventually) is that after it comes out everyone will just forget the ways Thomas messed up.
I donāt think the fandom will ever go back to how big it was at its peak but Iām sure people will rejoin when they realize the finaleās out and hypothetically if new SaSi episodes were to become more consistent (or at least just donāt taken fucking years in between) after the finale I just the fandom will be able to kind of reach some kind of normalcy?
Which is good, being in active fandoms feels good cause people are seeing your fan content, but itās also a bit worrying. Like when he gives us what we want I feel like some people will just move on from everything, the harsher critics wonāt but the average fander who was just disappointed about the wait might. ESPECIALLY if they donāt know about the underpayment allegations and that kind of stuff, which I think the majority of the fandom doesnāt.
And then someone else might get exploited.
That being said I feel like if the allegations became like 100% widely known internet drama it could only make things worse cause we donāt know how Thomas would react, like it could go a few ways:
A: a genuine apology and things go back to normal
B: a guilt trippy apology and a lot of the fans accept it anyway
C: No response and Thomas looses like half his audience
D: a full on meltdown from Thomas
Idk what would be the most likely to happen really. All of this is just hypothetical but like, Iām worried about the finale even though I really want it. Sasi used to be my favorite show in the whole world and while itās not anymore I still love it even if Iām not 100% positive about SaSi or Thomas. Iām just good at freaking myself out I guess

The finale will drop, and people will either forget, or new fans will join who have no idea what happened.
Thatās why blogs like mine matter so much. Leaking the Patreon wasn't just retaliationāit was a way to bring attention to my blog so that when I talk about things like Brei, MadLibs, Leo, etc., people will listen.
I wasnāt around for a lot of those situations, and now itās nearly impossible to find any discussion on them because the fandom forgets.
If enough people came together to hold Thomas accountable, I might lean toward B. But as of right now, I think all weāll get is a quick mention in his end-of-year video so defenders can point to it and say, āSee? He took accountability! Look! He said Breiās name at 6:34, so that means heās sorry!ā
Honestly, I wouldnāt be surprised if Thomas is banking on this loyalty from his fans to keep pushing Sanders Sides offāhe knows theyāll all come back. Itās so manipulative.

I think Thomas is loosing money
He's laying off his employees, he's producing cheap videos, he's trying to get more people on his Patreon by hiding Sanders Sides updates behind it, he's been going to a lot of conventions as a guest which is something he would be paid to do, he's unnecessarily adding a bunch of songs to the finale which will inevitably bring him another source of revenue (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music)...

I believe Thomas has a new writer on board named David? David was in Thomas's Instagram story about a writing session a few weeks back and he's in a recent episode called "Tongue Twisted Animaton Edition: a speaking backwards challenge"
A part of me hopes that this is good news for Thomas's channel because another writer can help with current productions on the channel *cough cough sanders sides cough*
But a larger part of me has some doubts based on the state of the series so far and Thomas's track record of losing employees. I guess we'll see what happens š¤·āāļø
