Nothing like a relaxing Sunday. We went out of town for the weekend, and unfortunately missed the snow storm (though there was still plenty of snow for us to enjoy when we got back)! I've never been much of a Sunday person, but I recently have really taken to our Sunday night routine which involves cooking, wine, TV, and having a fire. Yesterday we did a lot of meal prep. I made lasagna Rollups for my lunches and Ryan tried to make sweet potato pancakes that didn't turn out well - you win some, you lose some. Hunter was exhausted from a busy weekend of activity, and she's extra cuddly when she's tired which is my favorite. Nothing like watching Downton Abbey, with a fire crackling in the background, a glass of wine in your hand, and a puppy resting her head on your lap. Which brings us to Monday. I hope this week is good to everyone.
So pretty
Well, it's Monday... Instead of being negative, which has come way too easily lately, I'm going to try focusing on the positive: -I'm wearing a silk leopard shirt, which I love. -since it's a holiday, we have a denim day at work. -I've already had a fairly productive day in terms of accomplished work and billable hours. -Hardly anyone is here, which means I'm leaving early. -My nasty head cold thing appears to be on its way out. -I successfully had a healthy eating weekend this past weekend. -I now work with one of my best friends. -I have a gym in my office building. -My husband is a saint. -The Bachelor is on tonight. -And, I'm having a good hair day.
Sunday nights are hard on the soul. But sometimes you start a fire, cuddle with your dog, look around and realize your house hasn't been this clean in weeks, remember you have Downton Abbey in two hours and remember things aren't that bad.
Weekly eats: Chicken stir fry; skinny taste minestrone; skinny taste chicken enchilada soup. I overdid it with the chicken enchilada soup, but everything else we will be eating again. Do you guys basically only want to eat soup in the winter? Me too. Tonight we're making sesame crusted tuna with roasted corn. If it looks good, I'll take a picture 📷
I know I'm a little late to the game, but we had a great New Years celebration this year! Just a fun night out with friends and a good close on 2015. I always get a little sentimental as we approach the new year....it's sad to see a good year go, and to look back on all the great memories and events and know that you'll never be in that same exact place and time ever again. 2016 has been off to a decent start so far... My first real resolution was to get back in the gym (I totally ditched exercise when I started this new job, which really isn't new anymore). I started out strong on Monday, but came down with a cold yesterday. I guess we'll see how next week goes. We started eating much healthier back in October, and it's not really a resolution but I just want to keep that up. My other big resolution, which is the same thing as every year is to get my anxiety and stress under control. I also want to disconnect from technology more, and be more present in my life at home and leave work when I leave the office (as much as that's possible). I'll let you know how it goes, but I'm excited for what's to come in 2016.
Let's see.... Since I last checked in, I celebrated my 32nd birthday, we went to Disney World, Ryan had hand surgery after cutting his tendon doing dishes, sort of celebrated thanksgiving, had my first annual review at work, and one of my best friends got engaged. What else? Finished Christmas shopping and feel very excited about all the gifts I bought this year! We sort of started following a loose Mediterranean diet which has led to weight loss. I found a new favorite pair of pajamas which I want to live in forever. I've taken a few depositions and have been getting a lot of court time. Work continues to be chaotic, and I've been in a state of constant stress that isn't very conducive to productivity or happiness...but I'm trying to work on it and find new methods of stress relief. I wish I could write on here more. The main reason I don't is because it's blocked at work. I'm looking forward to Christmas and New Year's and having a few days off the relax and recharge for the new year.
This picture pretty much sums up my mood today. So cranky! Hated that it was Monday! So why am I posting it? I went back to brunette and I LOVE it! My hair was literally the only good part of my day and the delicious meal Ryan just cooked us.
This past Saturday we went to the Pound Ridge Harvest Festival. Hunter was so well-behaved, and we had a lot of fun spending the day outside. There's always a blast from the past band that plays at the festival, and this year it was Soul Asylum. It was so amusing watching all these 30 somethings rocking out to Soul Asylum. Sunday, I went to Trader Joe's for the first time in a long time. I try to avoid it because I have no control there. Oh my god I bought so much yumminess. If you're in pumpkin and fall....you need to go.
A few things... We spent last weekend in Vermont for Ryan's 30th birthday. We had such a great time, and if I didn't come down with this nasty cold, it would've been a perfect weekend. We went for a beautiful hike through Niquette Bay State Park, checked out a brewery and a winery, walked through the shops on Church Street, and had some tasty meals. As you can see, Hunter was there. We found a very dog friendly hotel, and Hunter loved everything Vermont had to offer. I really have only been to Vermont before in the winter season for skiing, but it was so nice getting up there in the fall when we could appreciate being outside, the fall foliage, and the beautiful views of lake Champlain. I would love to do this trip again next year, but with one or two more days dedicated to relaxing. Work continues to be crazy. But I took my first deposition this week, and I'm really glad to see my career progressing and to be gaining so much experience in these past few months. This was definitely the right career move for me, and I'm really happy at the new job (which isn't actually new anymore). One of my best friends got engaged last week, and I'm very excited for her and can't wait to be part of the wedding planning process. I'm not really into the whole pumpkin spice latte craze, all Starbucks drinks are generally way too sweet for my taste...but on a whim I picked up the green mountain pumpkin spice k-cups, and I love the coffee! I also recently got a new keurig and the coffee tastes so much more like real coffee. Wins all around! This week should've felt short for me with the holiday weekend, but it's still feeling endless. Why is it only Thursday??? I'm so ready for the weekend!
Wow, it seems like everyone is having a bad day. Me too. Hopefully tomorrow will be better?
Happy, bright and early, Monday! This was a good weekend - on Friday night I got home early (6:00) and we watched Pitch Perfect 2, and went to sleep by 11. On Saturday a few of my friends and I went to the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival in Saugerties, NY. It was such a gorgeous day, and we had so much fun. We tried garlic ice cream, garlic cannolis, garlic white pizza, garlic fries, garlic popcorn, and non-garlic stuff like kettle corn, fried Oreos and lemonade. If you live in the area - I really recommend this festival, there's a ton of food and crafts and it's sort of like a big farmers market in that they have a ton of stuff for you to bring home with you, like cloves of garlic, vinegars, mustards, olive oils, spices, pickles, cheese, chocolate, baked goods, candy, etc. Yesterday we spent a lot of the day cleaning and organizing. Started putting up fall decor. Went for a run with the pup, cooked a new meal - pasta with shrimp, zucchini, kale and spinach in a little olive oil, lemon juice, white wine. So good! I did some work, watched blood and oil on ABC (was NOT a fan) and watched the lunar eclipse.
I miss this space. I don't have much time to write or read...but here's a cute picture of Hunter.
Don't you love it when...
You think your dog is having a great time, romping in the other room playing with her ball, only to find her rolling on the floor like a pig in shit shredding apart your favorite pair of underwear... Or when you get on the scale, but you're still wearing your pjs...and then after, you're like, I bet I'll weigh even less if I take my pjs off...so you do, but you weigh the same amount? Or when you take the time to write a really long post and it gets deleted while it's supposed to be in the process of posting!!!
Just a little Tuesday afternoon PSA, If you want to be happy forever, the secret is the PJ Salvage pajamas. Truly delightful.
Welp....I guess I'm trying to get back on the healthy eating train? It's been challenging to keep up with exercise and healthy eating after starting the new job. Though I guess the job isn't that new anymore and I really have no excuse other than that I love ice cream and cheese and fried food? Amazingly I haven't gained that much weight, but I'm feeling bloated and nauseous and need to make a change. Anyway, I'm not turning this into some crazy diet...but I'm just eating healthier. Cutting out going out to lunch every day, eating a bit more simple. Obviously watching calories a bit too. We'll see how this goes.
