I honestly think all of the aro/ace discourse would just be solved if aro/aces would acknowledge our stigma is different from the lgbt community. You could still be in the lgbt community and be aro/ace depending on your gender and if you still consider yourself gay and on the spectrum (like I would be) but the distance in oppression is just too great and far too different in my opinion

the A. In LGBTQAI+ aka asexual/aromantic

If you don’t believe ace/aro folks are LGBTQAI+ you’re both a fool and aphobic step outside of tumblr for two seconds and you’d find that the lgbtqai+ community accepts aces, agenders, and aromantics (the A in lgbtqa+) as a part of the community.

The ace/aro hate seems to be mostly coming from lesbians/gays, which is kinda sad and sickening that people who are LGBTQAI+ are rejecting and shitting on fellow LGBTQAI+ folks. This is just like when people, predominately bisexual and gay people, tried to lump pansexuals in with bisexuals. Or like the hundreds of lesbians who don’t believe trans women are women.

As it stands this ace discourse is just another show that the gay/lesbian part of LGBTQAI+ discriminates and excludes others in the LGBTQAI+ community. The aphobia is strong and the panphobia n’ transphobia is still thriving.

An actually straight person is both romantically and sexually attracted to the opposite sex/gender. Ace aren’t sexual attracted to any gender, thus not straight. Aro aren’t romantically attracted to any gender, thus not straight.

Whether you like it or not ace/aro folks are LGBTQAI+

LGBTQIA+? Im sorry did you mean LGBTQ? Intersex people shouldnt be forced to be included in our community. Up to 80% of intersex people dont identify as LGBTQ. And as for ace people. So I have received a few asks about whether or not ace people belong in the LGBT community and I am going to give my opinion as simply and briefly as I can.

I’m going to come out with it. Ace people do not belong in the LGBT community unless they either experience attraction to people of the same/similar gender (or are trans of course).

The LGBT community was founded by black trans women in order to make a safe space for people who were societally oppressed for their sexuality and/or gender expression.

Being ace does not make you LGBT (except for the reasons previously listed). Neither does it make you het.

Ace people are valid and deserve a community, but the LGBT community is not it. By enforcing your presence upon it, you are being homophobic and not allowing us to have a space to be ourselves.

(None of this applies to ace people who are trans/LGB)

I have recieved more anons about a similar topic: the LGBT acronym (😒)

So personally, I am a bit of a traditionalist.I think it should be kept as LGBT or possibly LGBTQ.

Some people want to change it to, in all honesty, rediculously long acronyms, like LGBTQIAPOD+ (what the fuck)

The IAPOD stand for = Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual, Omnisexual and Demisexual.

Intersex. Many consider intersex people (people born with some female or some male genitals) to be similar to trans people (sorry if this sounds crude), however we shouldnt make intersex people become part of the LGBT community because they aren’t? (I hope this makes sense)

Asexual (previously mentioned)

Pansexual / Omnisexual. This is a bit trickier. Pansexuality and Omnisexuality are very similar to bisexuality (don’t come and yell at me plz) and I think they are covered by that. Pansexuality expresses an attraction to all genders whereas Bisexuality only expresses attraction to two (not necessarily the two in the gender binary male and female), and therefore Pansexuality is considered a branch of Bisexuality

Demisexuality. This, again, is a shade of asexuality.

Therefore, I believe it should remain LGBT.

An afterthought:

Saying the word q*eer is NEVER justifiable unless you are LBG.

Saying the word f*g or f*gg*t is also NEVER justifiable unless you are LGB.

Saying h*mosexual or h*mo, although commonly thought to not be a slur, is also NEVER to be said unless you are lesbian or gay.

HOWEVER

Being LGB does not give you the right to call other people these slurs unless they allow you to. And, do not repeatedly use them around people who are uncomfortable with them. Including me. So don’t call me slurs. I’d appreciate that.
