According to my mom talking about it is a good thing— it makes people feel better when they relive memories actually—

telling them I’m sorry for your loss is expected and generic. It seems like the only think you can say but try a little harder

i asked her what her favorite memory with her mom was. It seems intrusive and uncomfortable, but when this sort of this happens, people want to be asked trust me

my specific wording was “if your comfortable with me asking, what was your favorite memory with your mom?

don’t force them to talk but it’s important and essential to offer

i did offer to pray for her bc ik we both go to church

when she told me the story i expressed how horrifically awful that was and im sorry her family had to experience that

then that i was glad her family and friends were supporting her

i told her if she ever needs anything to let me know, (but she’s never going to reach out, no one ever does. If you say it and mean it, show up for them first)

I plan to talk to my church I think? And do something for their family idk how yet

i donated to their thingy for her

little things I did: used all lowercase, punctuation, no exclamation marks, stuff like that

I don’t think people want you to shy away from grief? I think people want to be asked because it makes the hurt less, and it shows you actually care. The basic “I’m sorry for your loss let me know if I can help” is not enough especially if you know them well
