It had been a couple years since everything that happened in L.A with the dark matter and the rift generator. I had stayed in L.A for a year, more high profile cases that needed my help, although many speculated I stayed only for Sousa, which I enjoyed his company, but I wouldn't stay somewhere I couldn't be helpful. Sousa and I served each other's fancy for awhile, but even though Chief Sousa was a good man and protected others, he reminded me of Jun in a lot of ways and it was hard to think about all those memories so soon after losing Jun.
My heart wasn't ready to love again so soon and it would never love in the capacity that it loved Jun. When he was lost a piece of my heart was lost with him. I was too hasty trying to fill that hole that can't be refilled. Sousa and I only saw each other for a few months, deciding it was best to keep it professional. After I finished the case of Jack's attempted murder, Jack and I went back to New York, the place I belonged. New York was where I belonged and I couldn't part with it for long, so it was only a matter of time before I came back. And in my heart, I knew if Jun came back, he would look for me there, not in L.A.
Now it was September 1949. The air was crisp with a cool breeze as the bronze and gold leaves flew with the wind, the trees no longer able to hold onto their leaf extremities, letting them be taken by the breeze and watching them float further away from them. The weather was beautiful so I tidied with my door open, my screen door letting air in through the small holes and into my house, giving it a fresh smell. I dusted and put things away, taking the chance while I had a day off to get everything organized at home. I knew once I finished I could go out on the town and enjoy the night without worries of trying to stay incognito.
It didn't take long for me to finish tidying up, putting the duster away as I heave out a sigh of content, seeing how clean everything was. I walk over to my radio, turning it on to let soft melodies play as I enjoy the moment I was in. I was shocked, though, when I heard a knock on my door, making me turn around to face the who waited at the door. I was prepared for an altercation if it was needed, but I wasn't ready for what I turned around to.
There he stood, his brown hair was falling over his lashes as his Captain America suit hugged his form, however it was an upgraded version from the one in 1945. He looked healthy, his shoulder wide and his body fit like it had been that year. I felt I was hallucinating, watching him smile at me like he used to back then. My eyes filled with tears as I tried to hold them back.
"Jun?" I ask, my voice weak from the shock my body felt at seeing him.
"Hey Peggy." His voice was soft, his eyes filled with tears as he stepped into the house, walking up to me.
I froze, tensing, causing Jun to do the same. I realized the improbability of him actually being here and worried why I was seeing him in front of me. "Jun, how are you here?" I ask warily, Jun smiling with a small shake of his head.
"You were always cautious." Jun smiles, making my heart stop, truly believing it was him. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the Stork Club that night, although I think I saved you from a terrible dance.
I felt the tears resurface as I open my mouth to respond to him, but stumbles sounds is all that comes out. "I can't believe you're here." I get out, reaching my hand out to touch his chest, feeling how real he was.
"Have I got a stories for you, Peggy." Jun reaches his hand up, placing it over mine, pressing it further into his chest. "I've missed you so much."
"And I, you." I clear my throat, clearing any emotion from it, however it was futile as emotion bubbled back up.
"Did you save me a dance?"
I let out a watery chuckle, nodding because I didn't trust my voice. Jun smiles as he wraps his arms around me, pulling me against his chest as he begins to sway to the music. My arms wrap around his upper back, resting my head on his chest as I sway next to him.
I lost track of how many songs passed, I lost track of the sun falling in the sky, all that was left was the afterglow of the sun having set. I look up at Jun, feeling content with having him back, however a questioned lingered in my mind as I pull away just enough to talk with Jun, but still stay close as he continued to sway us.
"How are you here?"
Jun smiles, but his smile had some sadness.
"It's a long story."
Jun sits down, me following suit as I still can’t believe he’s here. As we sit he tells me everything, from him waking up in ice to moments ago when he time traveled back to this year. He told me some thing had to remain secret for time line reasons, but even with him saying that I wondered if he kept anything, all of his stories seeming confidential.
“I had to come back to you, Peggy.” Jun says, his shy demeanor having become braver since I’d last seen him.
Tears flooded back in as I looked at him, my heart swelling at having him in front of me, however it wasn’t the only reason I had tears.
“Jun.” I say his name, having missed the way it sounded. “Are you sure it’s wise to stay here? They may need Captain America again.”
“I don’t want to fight anymore.” Jun tells in honest, a sigh heaving from his chest. “I belong here. I belong with you.”
I feel tears fall over my cheeks, my next words hurting me more than I could express in words.
“You belong there.” I let out a shaky breath as I lay my hands atop of his. “They need you there.” I turn away as more tears fall, feeling slightly embarrassed at the excess emotion I project.
“Maybe I’m needed here too.” He bargains, his eyes captivating the feelings of his heart breaking.
I smile despite my sadness, trying to make it easier for him. “We know that if you were needed here you would’ve been uncovered from the ice sooner.”
Jun fell silent, his heart breaking silently in front of me, making mine follow suit.
“Jun, I love you.” My voice broke, emotions overwhelming me. “But I wouldn't feel right taking one of the future heroes to myself."
Jun knew how Peggy was. She was the strongest girl her knew and he knew how stubborn she was too. It was one of his favorite things about her, but it's what was bringing ache into his heart in this moment. He wanted to be done with the fighting. He'd saved the world so many times and all he wanted now was a chance to live his life with her, a chance he never thought he would get but here he stood.
"I don't know how much more I can take without you." He admitted, his voice small as the radio continued to play slow songs. "I'm tired, Peggy."
I looked at this super soldier, his strength unbeatable, his speed unmatched, a heart so big it was no wonder I fell for him. And here he was, defeated on my couch saying he needed me to go on. My arm went around his shoulder, hugging him closer as he sighed against me, relief being conveyed in his sigh. I thought awhile, not wanting him to leave, but not wanting the world in the future without the Captain America they needed these past few years.
"I think you should return." I admit, hearing my accent becoming thicker when I spoke softly, knowing it would be hard for Jun's resole as it fell over his ears. "What if I meet you there?"
Jun pulls back, looking at me, my smile mischievous, one I wore a lot when we fought the war together. His eyebrows burrowed in curiosity, waiting for me to continue.
"You and I know one of the sharpest minds ever to grace this earth happens to be our close friend, I'm sure he can bring time travel up a few years. You go back and I'll come to you, you can even save me a dance." I felt excitement fill me at this idea, the adventure I was sure to have by this invention.
"You do a lot of important things for the future." Jun mentions, his hopeful face falling.
"Then they will have to make a new future, whatever comes of it you and I can fix it, together." I smile, his eyes meeting mine, making me realize how much he had grown since I spoke with him last, the Jun I knew before was too shy to look at me this way, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it., seeing all his emotion in his eyes, baring it all for me to witness.
"Dancing has changed a lot." Jun's teary eyes lift with his smile, these words agreeing to my idea.
"I'll learn fast." I wink at him.
"I'll wait for you, Peggy, as long as it takes." Jun mentions as he he stands bringing me into his arms to hold me close for another dance.
"I'll be there before you even miss me." I promise, dancing with him until the sun set, the moon rising being Jun's queue to leave for the future. He waves at me in the street, his smile brighter than when when he arrived, making my heart swell. I watch him materialize into nothing, disappearing before my eyes, the only proof of his presence was the warmth he left with me that begin to fade with the autumn breeze. First thing in the morning I'd speak with Howard and begin working to meet Jun.
~
Jun stood in the empty lot, watching his surroundings as the sun set in the evening. The spot he found was where the old Stork Club had been, long since it had been torn down. It was surprising nothing had been built in its spot, it seemed like fate had left it open, so he and Peggy could meet here where they were supposed to all those years ago. This was Jun's second night here, waiting for Peggy to arrive in this spot asking him for that dance he saved her. He wasn't sure how time travel would worked in the past, it probably wasn't as advanced as it was when they'd used it in the present, so he knew he would have to keep waiting until Howard figured out all the data and specifications, just like his son had done.
However, two days turned into two weeks and those weeks turned into months. Jun had told Bucky about what happened and Bucky had lost hope for his friend long ago, but he never stopped Jun from going to the empty lot that used to host The Stork Club, he couldn't bring himself to tell Jun to give up because they had found each other even after all these years and neither of them thought they'd see each other again. However, it hurt Bucky to watch his friend leave every night and not return until deep into the morning hours.
On the ninth month of waiting, Jun felt the negative effects of waiting, both physically and emotionally. He wondered how long Peggy had waited for him that night and wondered if she would just tell him to leave her in his memory and continue on without her, but Jun couldn't. He would wait for her forever and that's what he was going to do even if it's the last thing he did.
The first time I saw him was a few months ago. I was sitting there, listening to the first person sing like no tomorrow and unable to carry a tune. I think I lost brain cells…
It's a Saturday night and all of A.C.E sits around a table packed with food to celebrate their recent album release. All of them having worked hard to ensure the production of the songs and the dances were perfect.
I sit beside my boyfriend, Junhee, as all the members talk at once teasing each other and talking about funny moments they had behind the scenes of production. I laugh at them all until my stomach hurts and my cheeks are red. Barely touching the food on my plate because I was afraid I would choke on it from laughing so hard.
After one particular hard fit on laughter I catch Jun looking at me out of the corner of my eye. Prompting me to turn and meet his eyes. His dark eyes swirl with emotion and a soft smile tugs at his lips.
"What are you thinking?" I ask him through giggles. The boys continuing their playful banter.
Jun glances around the table to see if anyone was paying attention before swiping his tongue across his bottom lip and leaning closer to me to whisper in my ear.
“I like your laugh."
I feel my eyes widen, a blush creeping from my neck up to my cheeks. Painting them a vibrant shade of red.
"You do?" I ask nervously. No one had ever commented on my laugh before.
Jun smiles at me, his nose brushing mine teasingly. He leaves a quick kiss on my lips before pulling away and whispering, "I really do."
I smile at him shyly, placing a hand on his thigh that he quickly takes to intertwine our fingers together. The quiet moment shared between us going seemingly unnoticed by the other members.
My eyes stay focused on the needle that went up and down steadily on a piece of long paper, drawing blue squiggles that indicated a steady or quickening heartbeat. I clicked the pen in my hand a few times out of habit and marked off a question that had just been answered.
"Were you born in February?" I ask the man on the opposite side of the table.
The man has a thin band strapped around his chest tightly and more wires hooked up to his arm and hands. His police uniform matched mine, his badge as a police officer sparkled in the light that hung over our heads in the interrogation room. A smirk adorning his lips, making my heart flutter in my chest. Donghun's flirtatious ways would have been seen as unprofessional behavior with our superiors around, so when they were in the area he kept his demeanor in check. His face like stone. Even if we had been dating a year outside of work, he kept up the roll of a cop. But whenever we had a moment to ourselves he let the façade slip away into a shameless smirk.
"Yes." He says, the lie detector remaining low, indicating he was being truthful.
"Remind me again why you couldn't be hooked up to this." Donghun whines, watching me write his answer down on the clipboard in front of me.
"Because I haven't been able to test out a lie detector before and since the chief ordered for a new one it was too good of an opportunity to pass up." I answer, looking back up at him with a sweet smile. Donghun rolls his eyes and I keep scanning the clipboard at the rest of the questions.
"Are you an only child?"
"No."
"Have you been a part of the police force for three years?"
"Yes."
"Do you know my middle name?"
The room falls quiet and I glance up at Donghun, his eyes wide and searching my face as if he would find the answer written on my forehead.
"You can't ask questions those questions." Donghun says after clearing his throat.
I smirk, "The purpose of a lie detector test is to apply psychological pressure and to get the truth, Donghun. And we want to make sure this machine works."
Donghun narrows his eyes at me and shifts uncomfortably in his seat, clearing his throat again.
"Do you know my middle name?" I ask again, my tone lower.
"Yes." Donghun says, but its under his breath and I barely heard it.
I look down at the paper, checking his heartbeat and let out a laugh. "You're lying."
"No, I'm not!" Donghun whines, making me let out an evil laugh and scribble down notes.
"Is your name Lee Donghun?" I ask, still laughing.
"Can we stop?" He asks, his big doe eyes pleading with me.
"No." I say, chuckling. "Answer my questions."
"Yes." Donghun answers, seeming annoyed with the seemingly obvious answer to the question.
"Do you know the date of our anniversary?"
I hear Donghun suck in a breath, I meet his eyes and rest my chin on my hands.
"Do you know when our anniversary is?" I ask him again, a smile tugging at my lips.
Donghun shoots me a hard glare, making my smile widen. "Yes." He answers.
I look down at the paper and see his heartbeat remain steady, he wasn't lying. I smile at the result and catch his smirk out of the corner of my eye.
"You only have two questions left and then you're done." I inform him. I set down my pen and stand from my chair across from him, walking over to sit on the edge of the table where he sat hooked up to the machine.
I lean in close enough to his face that our noses brush together, causing Donghun to suck in a breath at the sudden close proximity.
"Am I a good kisser?" I whisper against his mouth, his lips opening slightly at the feel of mine brushing against his lips.
"You might need to remind me." He says through a smirk, his voice low, making a fire ignite in my stomach.
I press my lips to his gently, one of his hands resting on my knee as he presses his lips harder against mine. My teeth grab his lower lip and tug against it slightly, making him let out a shaky breath before pressing my lips against him once more.
I pull away from him slowly, our eyes staying closed a few more seconds after the kiss had ended. "Do you remember now?" I ask, smiling at Donghun's hazy eyes.
Donghun smiles up at me, "Yes. I remember how good of a kisser you are now." He says. Both of us look at the paper in unison to find that his words were truthful. I smile and press my lips to his briefly before going back to my chair on the opposite end of the table to ask my final question.
"Do you love me?" I ask him. I knew I didn't need a lie detector test to tell me he did, but it still made my heart soar when he answered truthfully;
A/N: I based this fanfic off their song Down a bit. 🥺
The room is hot and crowded as people stand around talking with their drinks in hand. Some sit on the sofa, others sit on the floor enjoying each others company. The room is loud, too loud. The voices of many people talking at once overwhelms my eardrums.
I stand in the corner of the room wishing I could go home. The black dress I have on is too tight and shorter than I am comfortable with, and the drinks too strong. I look around the room searching for an empty seat, having given up looking for my girlfriends that had dragged me to this party and then left me to talk to guys.
I set my drink down on a nearby coffee table and start searching the room for an unoccupied seat. If I was going to be stuck here I may as well be moderately comfortable.
"*Take my seat."* A voice from behind me says, making me jump and whirl around.
The boy behind me has striking features about him. His dark hair falling into his bright brown eyes sparkling in the light of the room, captivating my attention.
"You can have my seat." He says again, gesturing to the seat that he had currently been sitting on.
"No, I couldn't." I say weakly, taken aback by his kind nature and good looks.
He smiles at me, making my heart give off a slight flutter in my chest. "I've sat down long enough." He says. "You look like you could use a rest. And judging from how you and I weren't socializing much, I'd say we both hate coming to parties."
I let out an awkward laugh, surprised how much he had gathered in a short period of time. I go to sit down in his chair, relief flooding my tired legs once I was seated comfortably.
"My name is Byeongkwan." The boy says, extending his hand to me.
I smile up at him and shake it, giving him my name also. "Thank you," I say, hoping my voice conveys my thankfulness. "For giving up your seat for me."
Byeongkwan shrugs. "I actually saw you with your friends earlier. You looked lonely and like you wanted somewhere to just relax."
I stare up at him blankly, surprised anyone had noticed me in this crowded place. "Where are you from?" I find myself asking him. He smiles at me warmly before we fall into a pleasant conversation with each other.
The night passes in a blur after that, my cheeks red and sore from laughing. His voice filling my ears like a beautiful song and his smile burning itself into my soul. We're the last to leave the party, Byeongkwan walking me to my apartment since I couldn't find my friends.
"We should see each other again." Byeongkwan says shyly, his eyes twinkling in the bright city light.
"I would like that." I tell him, leaning my head against my doorframe sleepily.
"So I can call you tomorrow?" He says, a proud smirk growing on his face.
I let out a laugh and lean in and kiss his cheek gently as my answer, his ears and neck turning bright red the minute I pull away.
"Goodnight, Byeongkwan." I whisper. Smiling at him, happy that something good came out of me going to that overcrowded party.
The kitchen is bustling with activity late one night after dinner, pots and pants clang together as they are washed and the sound of silverware getting put in their proper place in drawers fills the small apartment along with laughter.
I wash the last few items in the sink as my boyfriend, Seyoon, dries them. A bright smile on his face as he talks about his day, both of us feeling talkative and chatting back and forth with little effort.
I finish washing the dishes and let out a content sigh, glad to have it out of the way. But my feeling of accomplishment is soon brought down a bit when Seyoon holds up a spoon for me to see.
“You missed a spot.” He says.
As much as I wish he were kidding, he’s not. I can see the dirty spot on the spoon plain as day. I let out a small whine and go to wash the spoon clean. The spot is almost out when I turn the utensil wrong and water hits me and splatters all over my shirt. Making it stick to my skin.
Me and Seyoon freeze for a moment, not sure what just happened. Then, we both laugh. Our tiredness from the long day getting the best of us.
Seyoon takes the last spoon from me and drys it to put it away, I wipe my wet hands down my shirt means how it was already soiled anyway.
“I’m going to go change my shirt.” I tell Seyoon as I go to leave the kitchen.
Seyoon takes my arm and stops me though. “*You can take mine.”* He says, quickly removing his shirt before I can say anything. His chest bare, making my skin heat up.
“Seyoon, you don’t have to do that.” I say, my words barely above a whisper. The room heating up and feeling like it was closing in on itself.
“I want to though.” He says with a sly smirk.
I open my mouth to protest when he takes the hem of my shirt and pulls it up over my head, cool air hitting my skin, making me shiver. Seyoon leans down and leaves a drawn out kiss on my collarbones, making me let out a sigh before he pulls away and covers my skin with his shirt. His smell filling my nose once the shirt is on.
“Better?” Seyoon asks, a proud smile on his face as he wraps his arms around my waist.
I smirk up at him and trail my eyes down his bare skin before leaving gentle nips on his collarbone and chest, making him whine against me.
“I think you should have kept your shirt on.” I whisper to him before he takes my face in his hands and kisses me deeply.
I roll over in bed, expecting to feel the familiar warmth and strength of my husband beside me. My eyes come open when I feel him not there though. I sit up in bed quickly, scanning the room.
His side of the bed was cold, indicating that he had been gone awhile without my notice. Our dimly lit room showed no signs of him. I noticed his T-Shirt was picked up off the floor. He always slept without his shirt on.
My eyes still bleary, I crawl out of bed. Cool air hitting my bare legs and arms, making me shiver.
I pad my way down our hallway searching for him. The bathroom was empty, the kitchen was empty, as was the living room. There was only one place left to check and I felt panic seize my heart if he failed to be in the one place I could think of.
But he was there. In his office, in a corner of the room he sat with a light pointed at a canvas he had been working on for several weeks in his spare time. His palms were smeared with various shades of paint and his eyes were intently focused on the painting before him.
I smile and step further into the room, catching his attention and making him put his paint brush down.
“What are you doing awake, love?” Seyoon asks, a smile reaching his tired eyes.
“I woke up to you not being in bed so I thought I would come check on you.” I explain. Still standing in the doorway.
Seyoon smiles and extends his hand to me, beckoning me to come closer to him. I take his hand when I reach him, making him place a drawn out kiss against my wrist as I run my fingers through his hair.
“Is something bothering you?” I ask him. Knowing he had been busy with schedules and was tired and stressed recently.
Seyoon rests his head against my stomach and draws me closer to him, his face buried in the fabric of my nightshirt.
“I just couldn’t sleep.” He mumbled against my stomach. His voice deep and vibrating against my skin, making me shiver. His hands rub my lower back gently but also keep me pressed against him.
“You’ve been working hard on your painting.” I say, changing the subject.
Seyoon brings his head up and looks at his painting, a smile tugging at his lips.
“It’s almost done. It just needs some finishing touches.”
I rub his shoulders gently, feeling the tight muscles there and feeling my heart ache for him.
“Can I stay with you while you paint?” I whisper. Not wanting to go back to an empty bed.
Seyoon looks up at me, his dark eyes holding love in them. He scoots out away from the canvas a bit, pulling me onto his lap so that I sit facing him.
I take his face in my hands and rub his cheeks gently, making him lean into my touch. He presses his lips to mine gently before taking my head and pressing it down to rest on his shoulder.
He goes back to his painting while I rest my head on his shoulder, my fingers tracing his shoulders and back as he does so. I’m only vaguely aware of him picking me up sometime later after I had dozed off and tucking us both into bed. His lips pressing against my forehead before he falls asleep.
It was Saturday night and most of the world slept soundly. The street lamps that illuminated the night sky had been on for a long time when a tired figure trudges through her front door. Heaving a sigh as she closes it and leans against the wall for support. Her day being long and exhausting.
Her shared apartment with her husband was quiet and dimly lit as she took her shoes off and placed her jacket on the coat hanger for the night. Her eyes bleary and barely able to stay open.
She tip-toed her way to the bedroom, trying to avoid the squeaky spots in the floor as she went. She entered the bedroom to find Byeongkwan laying on his side covered by blankets, only his dark head visible. She smiled fondly at him as she made her way to the dresser to get her pajama's for to settle in for the night.
"They're on the bed." Byeongkwan says from behind her, making her jump.
"Why are you awake?" She hisses, seeing him sit up in bed as he rubbed his swollen, sleep filled eyes.
"Because I wanted to." He answers bluntly.
She rolls her eyes but can't help at smile at his sweetness. "It's 2 in the morning, Byeongkwan. You need sleep." She says gently as she goes over to her side of the bed and starts changing into her comfortable clothes.
Byeongkwan watches her silently and seems to think over his response. "I want to help you though." He says quietly. Making her stop her actions of buttoning up her silk pajama shirt.
"You've been working really hard all week with almost no rest and I know you're stressed and tired and just not telling me." He continues, keeping his voice quiet and gentle. "But I stayed up so I could help in any way. I cleaned the apartment for you and laid out your clothes for bed. I did the dishes, too."
She smiles at his thoughtfulness, tears brimming her eyes. She presses a hand to her eyes to get the tears to stop when she sees him shift in bed to move closer to her. He reaches her and places a gentle kiss on her cheek before finishing buttoning up her pajama shirt and wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her onto his chest. His free hand arranging the blankets around them so they would sleep warmly.
"Let's stay in bed all day tomorrow." He whispers against the top of her head. Keeping her pulled close to him.
She smiles against his chest, his warmth radiating off him and warming her body, making her feel heavy with sleep.
"Okay." She replies. Her eyes closing and only registering the brief kiss he placed on her lips before sleep took over both of them.
If you're a fanfiction author and you haven't done this already, start backing up all of your fics on a Google Drive.
When Post+ goes live (it will despite the backlash - Tumblr is owned by Automattic who also owns WordPress), it's going to be mass purge of fandom accounts.
You've probably already seen the posts going around stating that if you make fanworks, you legally cannot monetize (EDIT 2: APPARENTLY THIS IS FALSE. EXPLAINED HERE. Check sources and come to your own conclusions. I've been getting messages with different takes on this). As soon as the idiots at Automattic realize this (EDIT: actually, they definitely know this), they're going to purge fan creators. Why? Because they're also going to be dealing with lawsuits, not just the creators.
And they can write out all of the rules and terms and warnings they want before a user signs up for Post+, but that isn't gonna stop all of the fandom babies from Wattpad coming in thinking they can make money off of writing fanfiction. So the solution? Shadow banning all people who create for fandoms, driving us into a dark corner, and ultimately kicking us off the platform so it can bring in more outsiders and normies, therefore becoming more appealing to investors and advertisers.
I implore you, please read up on the history of fandoms and the great purges of fan content here and try to tell me that's not where we're headed.
(EDIT 3: What I'm trying to say is, I'm pretty sure that the big men up top want us gone so they can try to make this site profitable. Back your works up. Let your voice be heard. Know your roots as a fan. All hail AO3.)
Spread the word, especially if you haven't seen this or done this already. Don't want anything bad to happen to any of our precious creators so please spread the word and tag other people you know!
@lovelyloverlia @akshstudios Thank you both for thinking of me!!
All my works have been crossposted on my AO3 account since the beginning of my blog (and saved in Word documents on my computer), so I thankfully have back-ups of my stories! In case tumblr does purge creators, it’s probably a good idea to subscribe to my AO3 account or follow me on twitter to make sure you don’t miss out on future works!
I hope any creators that weren’t aware of this change save their works and apply to join AO3 asap!! This probably won’t make a difference but let your voice be heard here: Post+ Survey
Let the staff know that we don’t want Post+ !!
It's a Saturday night and the world sleeps soundly, the time passing by unregistered by the countless sleeping souls in the big city that, even with hundreds asleep, never stopped. Yuchan slept deeply in his bed that night, his body succumbing to exhaustion as soon as his head hit the pillow. It had been a long week and he was ready to sleep in for the next few days and let his body recharge.
His sleep is interrupted, however, by the sound of his phone vibrating on his nightstand. Chan stretches out bed and squints into the darkness, fumbling to find his phone.
He says a groggy 'hello' without even checking to see who it is, not caring in his half asleep state. The voice on the other end makes him sit up immediately though, his eyes springing open at the broken tone on the other end.
"What happened?" He says, his voice not as groggy as it was moments ago.
There's more snuffling on the other end, broken words mumbled through harsh sobs and tears, her words barely recognizable.
"*Stay there. I’m coming to get you."* Chan says as he quickly gets up to get dressed to leave. She tries to stop him telling him she would be fine, but he doesn't listen and is soon starting the cars engine.
He's at her location within minutes. He decided not to tell her that he had ran a few red lights to get to her quicker. She sits on the stoop of her boyfriends apartment building, her clothes scattered everywhere throughout the sidewalk. She had tried her best to pick up the pieces that had been her material possessions, but had given in to despair.
She offers him a weak smile when he gets out of the car. They had grown up together and had always been best friends. Seeing her broken hearted like this now only made Chan's anger flare up and his hands go into fists by his sides.
"What happened?" He asked gently, picking up a T-shirt that she had failed to pick up.
"I came home and there was another woman in our place. He threw all my clothes out the window and told me to leave." She says weakly, her tear stained cheeks sparkling in the street lamps.
Chan lets out a breath and restrains himself from giving her ex a piece of his mind. Instead he stands up and wraps his arms around her lovingly, pulling her up to standing. She doesn't fight him, instead she leans on him gratefully.
"Come on, you can come home with me." Chan whispers into her ear, helping her put her things in his car and helping her get inside and get her seatbelt on.
She says nothing on the way to his place, her eyes starting to grow heavy and her head fall from side to side, fighting to stay awake. Chan feels his heart ache for her, hating the pain she must be going through.
"Thank you," She whispers to him after he gets her settled down in his bed, covering her up with blankets and swiping her hair out of her face. He would sleep on the couch.
"For always watching out for me, Yuchan." She clarifies. Smiling up at him weakly.
And maybe its because he's caught up in the moment, the hurt that swirls in her eyes or the way his heart feels when he does see her smile but he always decides to push the feelings down that he leans down and places a gentle kiss on her cheek.
"I'll always be here." He reaffirms, hoping she believes him and that she will heal faster knowing it.
