1) The NRA is a private organization, not part of the government - they have no power whatsoever to make anything illegal.

2) You’re probably thinking of the oft-repeated myth that the CDC is barred from researching gun violence. The actual truth of it is that they just cannot promote any gun control policies - that’s it. They’re perfectly free to research and present their findings, and in fact they have on plenty of occasions.
