everyone say “thank you Madeline Miller”
everytime i think about the song of achilles i have to take a moment otherwise i’ll start sobbing in the middle of a tesco car park and i really dont want that to happen again today
back on tumblr just because I just finished tsoa an I need fanarts and emotional support ahah
Probably, in the Elyseum, Achilles and Patroclus would be a teenangers in the Chiron’s cave, just playing and laughting all the day and soft kissing in the night, for all the eternity
Some of my favourite ancient gay ships:
1. Achilles and Patroclus
2. Hadrian and Antinous
3. Harmodius and Aristogeiton
3. Archidamus and Cleonymus
4. Alexander and Hephaestion
5. Apollo and Hyakinthos
Just a gentle reminder that the story of Achilles and Patroclus could have went so many different ways, that Patroclus was so deeply good he lived his entire life in Achilles shadow and was happy there, he found warmth and love and contentment where other men would have found hate and envy. His love was far more fierce then Achilles rage, as was his gentleness. He accepted Achilles faults and tried to make up for them himself, he was truly the softest and greatest of men.
'I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breath came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, and at the end of the world.'
Madeline Miller - The Song Of Achilles, Chapter Twelve.
There's an ache in me which spreads like a wildfire when I think about Patrochilles.
why did i have to like something as time consuming and emotionally exhausting as reading??? I could be making meatballs or riding a llama somewhere, but no, instead im crying at 3am because achilles and patroclus were just SO DAMN CUTE and they should have gotten married and then spent the rest of their days in a cute cottage as an old, adorable, mushy couple instead of THAT happening.
what to do when you are still traumatized by a book but i’ve already read all the fanfics and seen all of the fan art
there’s a whole “The Song Of Achilles” fandom and i’m here for it
currently finished reading it, currently dying, currently glad someone out there feels the same sorrow as mine cuz i can’t handle it myself lmao
I love how in Edith Hamilton’s Mythology she says that the first man to die in the Trojan War knew of the honor that was to be bestowed upon him, that he was prepared to die for Greece, etc, but in The Song of Achilles, Patroclus sees him jump and is just like “fuckin drunk”

BOOK STARTERS VOL.35 THE SONG OF ACHILLES MADELINE MILLER
❛ Name one hero who was happy. —- You can’t. ❜
❛ I feel like I could eat the world raw. ❜
❛ We are like gods at the dawning of the world. ❜
❛ I could recognise him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world. ❜
❛ There are no bargains between lion and men. I will kill you and eat you raw. ❜
❛ You can use a spear as a walking stick, but that will not change its nature. ❜
❛ He is a weapon, a killer. Do not forget it. ❜
❛ Some men gain glory after they die, others fade. ❜
❛ I am made of memories. ❜
❛ Will you come with me? ❜
❛ I wish I had let you all die. ❜
❛ It is right to seek peace for the dead. You and I both know there is no peace for those who live after. ❜
❛ Bury us. Let us be free. ❜
❛ Go. He waits for you. ❜
❛ Nothing could eclipse the stain of this dirty, mortal mediocrity. ❜
❛ I know I have told you of this. ❜
❛ I don’t know how you remember them all. I swear they look the same to me. ❜
❛ Perhaps you should get some new stories, so I don’t fucking kill myself of boredom. ❜
❛ I yearn for the darkness and silence of the underworld, where I can rest. ❜
❛ There is no honour in betraying your friends. ❜
❛ There is no answer. Whichever you choose, you are wrong. ❜
❛ Divine blood flows differently. ❜
❛ How is there glory in taking life? We die so easily. ❜
❛ This is what I will miss, I think. I will kill myself rather than miss it. ❜
❛ How long do we have? ❜
❛ Do you think we fight hopeless wars? ❜
❛ There is no law that gods must be fair. ❜
❛ I do not fear ridicule. I never have. ❜
❛ You were always better with words than I. ❜
❛ Who can be ashamed to lose to such beauty? ❜
every greek: achilles no
achilles: achilles YES
patroclus: achilles no
achilles: achilles NO
The Song of Achilles truly demonstrated that it is in fact about the journey and not the destination because FUCK was that a bad destination
