Someday your hands will be old and wrinkled, the skin spotted and bunching over your knuckles. And a child will watch you make something. It's a simple task, you'll have done it a thousand times before. But to that child, the smooth, confident way your hands move will seem like impossible magic. You have to keep living.
prev these tags have me crying. this is absolutely what it's all about
Louis having a nervous breakdown before stage two of MLD (side graft) phalloplasty while Neil treats the cat like a sack of potatoes.
Watercolour with indigo pencil lines on 10x14 hot press paper. The cover is referencing the UK/Europe single cover for This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) by Talking Heads.
Here's a playlist of the mixtape, which was nearly a zip file of MP3s because I got rid of spotify.
I talked about this comic in my free monthly newsletter - and they got to read it the day it was done.

It's the Royal Academy of Art Young Artist's Summer Show. One of my favourite exhibitions of the year. Like. Not only are the older kids insanely talented, the younger ones' artist statements will just punch you right in the face.

I have seen the exhibition!
I am particularly fond of My Blackberry Pot.
Incredible work and the artist is eight years old!!
Sometimes when you try a new technique and don’t like it, it is hard to tell if it’s just not your cup of tea or if you just aren’t good at it yet and you would like it if you were more practiced at it. The tricky part is deciding if a skill is worth the time it takes to figure out if you like it or not.
When a set of almost 70 ten inch squares came into my lap, I remembered the free Curvy Layer Cake pattern from Tiny Orchard Quilts and I decided it was time to see, once and for all, if I liked curved piecing. With the help of a lot of starch, a gift card to get the nice Creative Grids ruler for cutting curves, and five pins a piece, I ended up zooming through these blocks in just a few sessions. It turns out that curves are absolutely worth the time it takes.
After many enjoyable hours of tweaking and retweaking my layout (see photo under the cut), I arrived at a color wash I was very happy with and made the ambitious decision to give the third largest quilt I’ve ever made an all over free motion treatment. I was a little concerned, but ended up really enjoying the process as well as the result. I made a post with tips for free motion quilting on a small machine here.
I’m not quite sure where or who this quilt is destined for, but wow do I love it.

P.S. one of the benefits of making your own quilt is thinking “I bet that would feel nice to walk on” and no one can tell you not to.

the best way i can think to describe the experience of reading moby dick is you’re in line at the dmv and this guy behind you very loudly says “well who HASN’T had a gay experience” and then proceeds to tell you every detail about his life in between anecdotes about how great sperm is and how ropes work and sometimes he’ll say the most poetic shit you’ve ever heard in your life and them jump RIGHT back into explaining how a whale is a fish because 1) it swims in water and you’re still only like halfway through the dmv line

"There are no words to express the abyss between isolation and having one ally. It may be conceded to the mathematician that four is twice two. But two is not twice one; two is two thousand times one."
-G.K. Chesterton

The AIDS Memorial Quilt was started in 1987 in the USA to show all the lives that were lost to AIDS representing them humanely and not just as a statistic. It was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. The idea spread to other countries, and it was also done here in Catalonia starting in 1993.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt is present in over 40 countries, where about 100,000 tapestries have been made to commemorate loved ones who died due to this illness. It is the largest piece of community folk art in the world.
The Quilt has the objective of keeping alive the memory of the people who died of AIDS, but it also has an educational purpose, showing the diversity of people who were affected by it. AIDS was an extremely stigmatised illness because of its association to gay men, drug users, and prostitutes (even though it affected -and still affects- other people, too), that led to some religious leaders and conservative politicians to state that it was divine punishment and that nothing should be done to help the ill people. People with AIDS, their friends and family, and the queer community as a whole had to fight just to be treated like other ill people would.
Nowadays, it is known that the most important tool to not get or spread HIV is to be protected during sex and not share needles. If a person catches HIV, it can be treated with medication that slows down the virus from developing into AIDS so much that it extends the life expectancy to a standard level, so a person can have a normal life while being HIV-positive. For this, it's important to be tested to find it early. For this reason, the people most affected by AIDS in the present are people from countries with little medical resources, with the highest death rates in Africa.
In 2017, the Catalan AIDS Memorial Quilt was donated to the Catalonia History Museum. On World AIDS Day (December 1st) part of it is lent to the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Hall to hang it from the balconies, and it's also exhibited in other occasions.
BBC Merlin is insane as a show. Its an adaptation of Arthurian mythos. It's inspired by CW's Smallville (this is 100% real look it up). it stars 4 unknown 20 somethings and British acting legends. It's aimed at kids and families. its a tragedy. Its campy as hell. It will make you cry. It asks you, like Merlin, to believe in the Golden age of Camelot. It never shows you that Golden age. Everyone in the show is the most beautiful person you'll ever see. people will clown on the CGI. Its one of the most homerotic shows of the 2000's. Its an on purpose allegory for queerphobia, but those allegorious queer characters are largely villains. If you watched it when you were 12 you will never quite be able to let it go. This is a curse. This is an experience you wouldn't give up for the world.
Looking at some beautiful quilts by Michael James to cheer me up
