Bienvenido al Bernabeu
Real Madrid’s cathedral, the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, is home to one of the biggest clubs on the planet; when visiting the Spanish capital it really is a must for any futbol aficionado, especially if its a match day.
NYC based photographer Nathan Congleton, did exactly that and here’s his story.
"My best friend lives 5 minutes from the Bernabeu, he is the one who made me a Madridista and taught me everything I needed to know about the club, so when I walked into the stadium, the first thing that came to my mind was Zidane, Raul and Roberto Carlos, and everything they did inside that theatre, all the incredible memories and accomplishments on that stage.
I closed my eyes and tried to picture it. I tried to envision a late night ‘El Clásico’, the sounds of the crowd and the yells from the players while calling for a pass. It’s like a show in a theatre to me, calm, always emotional and 80,000 people are there to simply watch. That’s how I see a football match, and that is what it is like inside the Bernabeu.”

For my birthday this year, I wanted to give back. Nearly one million people on our planet lack access to clean, safe drinking water. For every reblog, I will donate $1 to an organization that helps the children in Africa gain access to water and a proper education. I’ll be checking back in a week!
—David Lehman, Poetry, December 1973 Edvard Munch was born on this day in 1863, and The Scream appeared in 1893. In the early 1890s Munch started making sketches for a series he called “Frieze of Life - A Poem about Life, Love and Death.” Lehman talks about writing the above poem, “Edvard Munch,” at Best American Poetry:
It’s a painting that spoke to me as a young man; it is the daddy of all shrieks from Wes Craven’s to Howard Dean’s; and it (and Rilke) triggered a poem I wrote back in 1972 or ‘73 when I had just returned to New York after two years of intelligence work in the UK and France. Daryl Hine accepted it for Poetry magazine and here it is from the December 1973 issue.

Entire Icelandic surfing series with solar power (by Chris Burkard | On Tumblr)
Adventure photographer Chris Burkard trekked to an unlikely locale for his October surfing series: the Icelandic Coast. Burkard and his fellow nordic travelers endured the north atlantic waters to surf against a surreal backdrop of snow, ice and volcanic black sand. ‘Iceland’s dynamism is both friend and foe to the outdoor photographer’, says Burkard. ‘The extreme northern latitudes keep daylight and weather conditions in a state of constant flux. At any given moment, a break in the ever-present cloud cover can yield a spectacular scene.’
