New pet peeve is "Well Oda didn't plan EVERYTHING out so it's fine to just add things in previous arcs that happened ages later."
And that's a pet peeve because we do NOT know how much he did or didn't plan out unless he straight up says so, that's an assumption. But it's also annoying because when he DOES reveal things way later on, he also writes in WHY it made sense for the character to NOT reveal anything about it. He admitted Law was a last minute addition, but so what should Law just mention Flevance Town in Sabaody now because 'Oda probably didn't plan Flevance Town', even though Law is a character who would NOT disclose that shit due to the traumas he went through?
Should Robin mention Ohara and her mother earlier now because 'well Oda probably didn't plan it'? Or, does it make total sense that Robin would keep that VERY close to her chest until she has a scene upon which she can OPEN UP about it - as her character was written in such a way!
The argument of whether Oda did or didn't plan shit - therefore it's okay to just add information we do not find out about WAY later on - is just ridiculous to me I don't understand why people cannot see WHY it pisses a lot of us off to do that!
It's pissing me off for Sanji specifically, and people saying we're being ridiculous and overreacting by Sanji mentioning his mother, because - even IF Oda didn't plan EVERYTHING - there was still a base formed BY Skypiea as he mentions the north blue (by accident, mind you) just to abruptly end the topic and move on from it even though Nami is TRYING to listen.
Sanji, after this, never brings up the north again. Never mentions anything about it, never mentions how he got to the east, doesn't talk about it point blank! And of course, we then get to Zou as he says lines like this, which is TELLING US Sanji was purposefully keeping his past VERY close to him and not spilling a single bit of information ever since his slip up in Skypiea ON PURPOSE.
You can argue Oda not planning anything out all you want, but it's clear here he is writing Sanji to be ASHAMED of his past. He's writing Sanji to feel GUILTY of his past. He's writing Sanji with a HUGE wall up around him as a person who doesn't even want to acknowledge his past!
Hence why, when Sanji mentions his mother with NO pressure in the live action, it's not fucking "oh boohoo you guys just can't be happy with anything, it's cute and Oda didn't plan it anyways!"
We're mad because one of Sanji's greatest arcs told us Sanji, specifically, is fucking ASHAMED of his past and would never let a single bit of information about it slip on purpose! And now, if we DO get to WCI, suddenly the impact of how afraid he IS of his past is dulled because he will just casually mention something - or SOMEONE - from it without even being ASKED. That does NOT scream a character who is heavily fucking traumatised from his past to the point they refuse to even let his crew HELP him with it, that screams someone who...isn't Sanji! At all!
It is totally fair for people to be mad about it because, as I've said before, it feels like there's no real understanding of Sanji's deepest parts of his character.
