Nesta Archeron deserved better, and I will die on that hill. Was she a mean older sister? Yes. Does she deserve to be held accountable for that? Absolutely. But that is something that should have been handled between the Archeron sisters.

The truth is, they all had issues they should have resolved together. Elain also did nothing in the cabin, but because she’s sweet it’s okay that she also didn’t hunt. Feyre told the IC the bad things about her sisters, while leaving out the good parts. She also was the reason they ended up in the cauldron. Nesta shouldn’t have been so bitter and cold to her family, she should have shown her love better. Not one of them was perfect, but Nesta is everyone’s target because she’s not sweet and submissive.

They all have stuff to own up to, but they should have done that together. And the IC targeting Nesta, especially after Feyre tells them to stop is bullshit and my girl deserved better.

The poor girl didn’t even get an “I love you” in her book. Instead she got a man who seemed to hate her and want nothing to do with her, and when she’s broken suddenly he loves her because she’s not fighting him anymore.

Nesta went to the wall to rescue Feyre. She fought in a war. She killed a King. She was expected to heal in such little time when Elain was given months, and still isn’t completely healed. She was told not to drink and sleep around, when it is said in the books how the IC handled their first war/battles, and how they cope with their trauma. And again, it’s okay for them, but not Nesta. Only when Nesta gave up her powers was she ever welcomed in their Court.

So yes, I will die on the hill of “Nesta deserved better”. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I've seen a lot of responses lately about Nestas feelings about the IC locking her up and I fully disagree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but personally Nesta deserves better.

Nesta saying that she deserved what they did to her is a trauma response. Nesta saying that they were right to lock her up because she was drinking and having casual sex is a trauma response.

She was clawing at her own body looking for a way to negate the pain and loneliness she felt. And maybe I read her Healing arc completely differently but she didn't heal when they forced her to train, or they forced her to train with Cassian or when they locked her up in a house ten thousand steps into the sky.

Nesta began to heal when she met Gwyn and Emerie and the other priestesses and the House became her friend.

So again, Nesta saying she deserves what they did to her is a trauma response because what the IC did to was traumatic too. There's no soft skill way to relocate someone to a prison without warning and then demolishing their home, aside from the body altering physically training (good in the long run but she was aching plenty along the way) and being told that everyone hates her (again, whether it's true or not is another story) is abusive.

Nesta was cut and shaped until she fit into the mould. And THAT is traumatic. The only difference is, If you hit an already broken person long enough, they'll start to believe they deserve it.

I think this is really wonderfully expressed and I totally agree!

Just to add my own feelings, I think it’s dealing with her feelings of worthlessness and realizing that those feelings were untrue, that’s what helped her start her healing journey (which is still ongoing, as Sarah herself has expressed). I think that shift in her feelings came from the friendships she forged with Emerie and Gwyn but also the other women who began training.

I feel like the rest of it (the trapping her in the House of Wind and training) is Sarah’s way of forcing proximity. As well as giving Nesta a reason to get up in the morning while she’s drowning in grief and feelings of worthlessness.
