important positive psa for the rp community.
there’s so much negativity going around these days – I think there always will be, sadly – but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible to fight it with as many positive words as possible. so, first, I’m gonna ask you to remember why you wanted to create your muse in the first place. you loved them, right? you still do. you care about them. they are a part of you. now remember the first time something caused you to lose sight of this. get momentarily angry, or nervous, or upset, because that’s natural and many people in this community feel these things on a daily basis. let them soak in for a moment, take away what you need to from them, but then I want you to forget them. do whatever it takes. blacklist. unfollow. walk away, come back. marathon your canon material. if you’re an oc work on headcanons, character sheets, grab a novel and read and get inspired (or grab some writing reference books and have some fun). listen to some songs that calm you down, that spark your muse. do whatever you have to do to return to the reason you started writing this character. do whatever you have to do to keep that feeling alive. no one in this community is a better roleplayer than the other because roleplaying is a hobby. there is no ‘well there is already a _____ so I shouldn’t make one’ because this community is not singleverse and, to be honest, the demand usually outweighs the supply. let there be a thousand _____ if the writers behind the screen are enjoying themselves! you can’t enjoy being inside of someone’s head if you’re stopping yourself from taking them on – or keeping them – because someone else already writes them or you think that someone else might write them better. this hobby is yours. it’s about you. it’s about being a member of a community that, despite all of the drama and craziness that may occur, does promote camaraderie and is meant to help us explore the beautiful world that is fiction. it’s an escape. it’s for fun. don’t think of it as a competition. do not let it tear you down. you’re strong. you’ve been through enough. you owe yourself this much. and, by the way, I’m proud of you.
