jihoon sipped on his warm coffee and set it down on the table before shifting in his seat to look at subin. he thought of many excuses he’d use for his parents to keep them himself out of trouble, but would they work with subin’s parents who didn’t even know she had a job? 

“ you are allowed to stay at friends’ houses? or do your parents like keeping you locked up like rapunzel as well? ” he joked. “ if you are, just say that you’re staying at a friend’s to study and i can pick you up, i drive you know. ”

jihoon shrugged at his last comment and looked towards the other student. he put his hand on subin’s arm and smiled at her genuinely. “ and trust me, i won’t leave your side unless you want me to. we can play beer pong together and sit in corners being moody. ” he chuckled to himself and took one last sip of his coffee.

“ also my coffee’s finished, you say yes, i’ll leave you alone for a week, you say you don’t wanna go, i’m ordering iced tea instead. your choice. ”

”of course i am. totally. what kind of kid can’t stay at friends’ houses? they aren’t THAT crazy,” subin responded quickly – maybe trying to defend her parents, maybe trying to save her own pride. probably both, because at the end of the day, she really wasn’t allowed to. her parents didn’t even really like knowing she had friends.

“but,” she began, clearing her throat, “i don’t.. i don’t think that excuse would work..? just a hunch. they might not believe it, you know. i don’t know why they wouldn’t, since i AM allowed to, but they wouldn’t.”

really, she wanted to go – she wanted to be more outgoing and have more fun with life before she graduated, but she was too fearful. not only of her parents, but of this whole thing being a joke. it felt fake when people actually reached out to her. but then again, what if it wasn’t fake? she wouldn’t know if she didn’t try.

and that’s the mindset that lead her to agree. “fine. i’ll quit being a square and i’ll go. but, i swear to god, if you leave me alone with all of those people i will kick your ass. i mean it. i’ll figure something out to get my parents off my back.”

“ come with me. ” 

the boy had been sitting in the cafe for around an hour now sitting at the table closet to the counter, leaning slightly in his chair with a coffee cup in his hands. by the counter stood the third-year girl taking another’s order. 

“ come on you have to at least try it! ” jihoon said to subin. for the past hour he had been trying to convince the barista to come with him to a party on friday, however, not with much success. he had been trying to argue her one-sidedly on the subject over two coffees already.

jihoon had liked coming to the cafe to study most of the time and whilst he didn’t usually mingle with chunghwa students, he had taken a liking to subin when she first started working there. he had always tried to start up conversations with her when ordering and genuinely tried getting to know her at other times, being the friendly person he usually is; today his starter was ‘have you been to a party before’. he vaguely knew of her parent’s strictness but he still wanted to get to know her and what better way to that then introducing her to alcohol and parties.

“ i’m sure you’ll have a great time and if you don’t at least you tried, right? ”

“here’s your americano, and have a great day,” subin spoke to the customer, handing them their drink with a soft smile on her features. 

as soon as they left, her attention was on jihoon and her expression turned into something unreadable. he was persistent -- she’d give him that. 

“and what exactly would be my excuse? i can’t just sneak out. my parents would kill me. and there aren’t many excuses i can use considering parties usually occur late at night, right?” she finally responded, despite having tried to ignore him at any time that he wasn’t ordering coffee.

“besides, even if i went, i can bet my entire life savings that you wouldn’t even say hi to me. you’d be off with your friends, playing beer pong or whatever, and where would i be? in a corner, wondering why i even agreed to go.”

“Quit studying and come with me to get some patbingsu.”

Subin was sitting in the library, a large textbook on the table in front of her, right beside one of the brand new journals she had bought just for notes. The glasses that she only ever wore while reading were slipping down the bridge of her nose, about to fall off, and even when they did, she didn't even notice. She just squinted a bit to see the pages better.

And then, she was furiously scribbling in her journal, trying to jot down everything she had read on those two pages. She was pressing down so hard that the lead of her pencil broke under the pressure, and she almost cursed aloud, but she held herself back.

But when she heard 'Quit studying and come with me to get some patbingsu.' so close to her, she did curse aloud.

"Fuck!" She exclaimed, quickly turning around. She earned quite a few disapproving looks from other people using the library, but that wasn't her main concern at the moment. "Jeez Louise! Did you have to sneak up on me like that? I wasn't prepared!" She whisper-screamed, but in no time, she was continuing -- her voice more gentle this time.

"But patbingsu sounds great. I've been studying since I came out of the womb."

hello!! my name is heather and i'm bringing in my first muse, min subin. under the cut, you can learn more about her!

she comes from a rlly rich family and she's the only child so she's SPOILED but not a good spoiled? they buy her like fuckin high quality textbooks and trips abroad to check out american universities and she's like .......... mom ...... dad ...... please ........... i don't Give A Shit about school ...........

but she'd never actually say that 'cause she'd probably be kicked out her parents are THAT strict when it comes to academics. they want her to be the BEST and if she isn't ............ they make her feel bad about herself

she has a knack for playing the guitar!! a friend taught her in elementary school but her parents refuse to let her get a guitar because it isn't "proper" so she has to sneak to the music shop near her house and convince the manager to let her "try out guitars" and she ALWAYS swears she'll buy one but she never does

she's too scared to do anything she isn't allowed to but (as the chief editor of chunghwa dispatch) she likes to edit articles and include phrases like "4 the lolz" but she always goes back and makes it sound rlly elegant and perfect bc she doesn't want to lose her spot or get lectured

she has a part time job as a barista at a cafe which her parents Also don't know about lmao whenever she has to work she says she's going to the library to study with friends
