Loooooooooonnnnnnnng time
Hey. So it's been a really long time. Haha. I'm still at DreamWorks working up thought the mail room and still trying to learn as much as I can. Life has been very busy and I've been trying to figure out a lot of things because honestly- the mail room is not as fun or romantic as it sounds. But more on that later.... Great thing though- Francis Glebas is speaking to us tomorrow!!!! So excited. :)

What has been the hardest part of your internship so far? (Other than the pencil skirts. :) )
This answer must be divided into two parts; a serious note and a reality note.
Serious Note: I think the hardest thing so far has been adjusting to the work flow of an animated movie. I've been studying live action and animation is very different. I mean the movie is edited before anything is even animated (sounds simple enough-but this blew my mind). Also animation goes through so many steps. From what I've seen it starts with just blocking of the characters, and then a bit of movement, then the mouth moves, then the layout is finalized, then the surfacing goes in and then the lighting- and I'm not even sure if I put those all in the right order (it is only day 4 of my internship. :D). Its just a beautiful beast!
Reality note: The hardest thing to deal with is the thumb-tacks. We use these really small thumbtacks that look like sewing pins- but are less than an inch long. After pinning an 8 x 5ft board on all edges, your thumbs start to beg for mercy. Yeeeeeee- First World Problems.

While some women directors can still get tagged with being a bitch just because we’re as tough as men, I think writers respect us for being straightforwardly honest with them nowadays,” said Ms. Kauffman, who recalled how, early in her career two decades ago, she used to wear men’s pants and blazers to avoid seeming like 'a weak woman.' “When I need playwrights to give me space when I’m directing, I say to them, ‘I didn’t sit there when you were writing your first draft and go, ‘You’re using that word?’ ” added Ms. Kauffman, who directed “Detroit” to acclaim Off Broadway last fall and is remounting her much-praised production of Amy Herzog’s “Belleville” at New York Theater Workshop this month. “My regular playwrights get it because they know me well.” ....“I don’t feel a boys’ club exists anymore, but statistics might disagree,” Mr. Haimes said. “There does seem to be a generation of women coming up as directors who may really change the landscape.”

True Life. Although professional clothes are optional in my field- its more of a classy casual work environment, unless you're on set in which its sporty casual.

So its been a while. I've moved to California, survived my frist week at DreamWorks (which is awesome!!) and I have been taking almost two months off from drawing and reading. EEEKKKKK!!!

Thanks! As I said, I'm really excited and I'm going to learn so much working on this show. But, the nerves have started to set in because I'm moving across the country for it- but it'll be a grand adventure!!!!!

Happy Christmas to all of my followers!!! Also it's the Active Protagonist's one year anniversary today! Last year, Christmas day, I read my new copy of the "The Art and Making of Beauty and the Beast" from cover to cover. I then made a promise to learn everything I could through reading and blogging. Happy Anniversary and Happy Christmas!!!!!
So here's a quick update: Christmas came early for me almost two weeks ago when I was offered an internship with DreamWorks Animation in Redwood City, CA!! And I'm taking it!!!! I'm super excited but also a bit nervous!!! I will continue to keep up with the Active Protagonist as much as the NDA (non-disclosure agreement) will let me
