New York attorney general probes Macyās, Barneys racial profiling claimsĀ
New York stateās attorney general launched an investigation Tuesday into retailers Macyās Inc and Barneys New York Inc, where black customers complained they were stopped by police after making luxury purchases.
The cityās feisty tabloids have nicknamed the practice āshop and frisk,ā a take-off on the controversialĀ New York police crime-fighting tactic āstop and frisk,āĀ which critics say amounts to racial profiling.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman gave the two department store chains until Friday to turn over information about their policies for detaining and questioning customers based on race.

Glitchy Obamacare Websites Basically Like That Time George Bush Mission Accomplished Iraq And Also Katrina
Are you having trouble keeping track of all the stupendously mind-numbingly bad Obamacare analogies? Yes, it is just like Hitler. No, it is not an iPhone. It is sort of like Green Eggs and Ham. Well, thanks to National Journalās Very Serious Columnist Ron Fournier, we have a new one to melt our brains like a white-bread-and-Kraft-singles sandwich grilling on the hood of a Chevy Pinto in August:
āJust like Katrina, when the big problem President Bush had was diminishing the significance of what was happening, saying āHey, way to go, Brownie,āāyou had the president yesterday talking about glitches and kinks. This is bigger than glitches and kinks,ā Fournier said on MSNBC, as quoted by Mediate. āThe one difference was Katrina was a storm, the health care law was Obamaās creation.ā
Fournier then added, āMaybe the Iraq War is a better analogy.ā
Um, sure. Okay. That makes perfect sense, what with the president heckuva jobbing Kathleen Sebelius, who personally wrote the code for the Obamacare websites ergo IMPEACH!, in between birthday cake photo-ops with John McCain. Except ā oh wait, that didnāt happen. Maybe Fournier is right, and the Iraq War is a better analogy ā if you allow Fournier to ignore that stuff Fournier said about how the media really ought to get over the way George Bush clusterfucked Iraq and instead remember that he was a pretty awesome bro.

Epic takedown of asshole Ron Fournier for saying healthcare, gov just like Iraq or Katrina. So good, I wish I wrote it.
To a Conservative, one must Kill in order to prove their commitment to ProLife stances. Regardless of your stance on Guns, an uneven application of the law does NOT help either side.
"These social justice bloggers need to calm the fuck down," said the young white male blogger, bewildered and angered by the idea that anyone could take issue with a world that suits him so perfectly.

ActivistMode: Bwahahaha Fatigue from political activism or social justice only happens to those hiding under the fake smile of inclusiveness.
a lot of white, cis, or hetero people will reblog and act like they support certain aspects of social justice, but then you can tell that they actually DONāT understand what it all means because youāll see little hints of racism/transphobia/grossness in some of the things they say and do that they donāt realise are problematic

A conservative news website is reporting that right-wing organizations are the target of a new John Doe probe launched by the Milwaukee County district attorney.
"For the second time in three and a half years, a Democrat District Attorney of Milwaukee County has launched a secret investigation into conservatives, with the apparent goal of bringing down Gov. Scott Walker," writes Wisconsin Reporter, which is part of a national network of conservative investigative news websites run by the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, a libertarian group based in Virginia.
Targeted organizations include the Republican Governors Association, the Club for Growth and Americans for Prosperity, a group largely financed by Charles and David Koch. WR reports that Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf is investigating these groups for alleged campaign finance law violations, likely in connection with efforts that benefited Gov. Scott Walker or legislative Republicans.
ActivistMode: One thing seems clear - John Doe investigations keep happening because Walker & Co. can't get rid of the District Attorneys.

A Florida Atlantic University student was discriminated against by the campus library for looking like a girl even though he identifies as a gay man.
Florida Atlantic University senior Abdul Asquith was trying to get some studying done at the campus library this past Wednesday, but when he attempted to check out a laptop,Ā he was told that he could notĀ because of his gender presentation:
ASQUITH:Ā She looked down at the ID, and said, āYou sound, look, and act like a girl and in this ID is a man, therefore Iām not giving you a laptop.āĀ [ā¦] It looks just like me. I identify with my ID. I wasnāt there dressed up. I didnāt have on dress. I wasnāt dressed in character.
Though Asquith admits he sometimes wears feminine clothes, on this particular day he was wearing shorts and a hoodie and had his hair pulled back. He identifies as a gay man, but this would constitute discrimination based on his perceived gender identity, demonstrating how comprehensive nondiscrimination protections are important for all communities.
Asquith was finally able to use a laptop for his studies, but only after he asked three different librarians. Watch WPTVās report about the incident.

Tea Partyās Concern for Veterans is Short-Lived
During the shutdown, Rep. Blake Farenthold was one of the ābagger reps exploiting veterans for political gain. When veterans learned that the WWII Memorial was closed, Farenthold was right there, making sure the barricades were pulled away. See, during a government shutdown, the real important thing is not making sure that families have food assistance, that homeless shelters remain open, or that the families of soldiers killed in action received death benefits. No, what was really important was to get plenty of photos of Rep. Blake Farenthold and other Republicans gladhanding vets, blackslapping each other, and generally acting like moving a temporary fence was pretty much equal to landing at Normandy themselves. āToday, I was proud to join some of my fellow Texas members in welcoming WWII veterans from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area āHonor Flightā to the World War II Memorial in D.C.,ā Farenthold said in a Facebook statement at the time. āThese heroes made the ultimate sacrifice in serving our nation - and no barricade should prevent them from visiting their memorial.ā Strictly speaking, the āultimate sacrificeā would be dying, since āultimateā means ālast.ā So they havenāt actually made that sacrifice for Blake Farentholdās freedom quite yet ā but Blakeās working on that.
Burnt Orange Report: Farenthold sat down with Kristv news to discuss what exactly the shutdown did to the country and his motives for supporting it. Kristv news quickly pointed out that many of Farentholdās constituents have said they will not vote for him again. Kristv asked Farenthold about the people who say heās lost their vote; people like retired veterans who were on the verge of losing their disability checks next month. āI feel like my mandate when I was elected was to go reduce the size of government, lower taxes, and increase freedom, and freedom isnāt free, and sometimes you have to make a small sacrifice to move forward with what youāre after,ā Congressman Farenthold said.
So visiting a pile of marble in Washington, DC? Farenthold will move heaven and earth to make sure vets can do that.Ā Paying those same vets their disability benefits? Well, sometimes sacrifices have to be made. Freedom isnāt free. Blake knows this because of his sacrifice in⦠Well OK, heās never actually served anywhere other than as a talk radio blowhard. If you get the feeling that Farenthold is scum, youāre not alone. And heās hardly unique. The government shutdown caused tremendous damage to the country, while accomplishing absolutely nothing other than getting this peopleās faces on the news. That was it. That was the whole freakinā point. Everyone else had to make sacrficies for them, because they think theyāre the only people in the world who matter.
Joe Conason: ā¦We probably will not know the full cost of the shutdown and the near-default for several months, if ever, but fresh estimates are now arriving daily. According to Standard and Poorās, the financial ratings agency, the shutdown alone reduced economic activity in the United States by at least $24 billion and cut growth in the current quarter by as much as 0.6 percent. That means a loss of thousands of jobs and billions in household income just when the economy would traditionally surge upward for the holiday season. But that is just the beginning of a much grimmer inventory of suffering, which can be traced back more than two years to the first episode of tea party debt-ceiling bluster. For that assessment, we can look to none other than the Peter G. Peterson Foundationānamed for its creator, a former Republican commerce secretary and fanatical fiscal hawk whose latest contribution to public discourse is a thorough study, with charts, of āthe cost of crisis-driven fiscal policy.ā Petersonās full study is worth reading, but its essential points are simple enough.
Thatās on top of the sequester. None of this histrionic grandstanding actually did the country any good, much the same way that forcing open the WWII Memorial alleviated no suffering nor improved anyoneās lives. When it comes to fulfilling our promises to veterans, to making sure that the American taxpayer receives the services those taxes pay for, to seeing to it that people have the bare minimum it takes to survive, Republican are more than ready so sadly inform you freedom isnāt free. But when it comes to empty gestures that guarantee face time with news cameras, freedom is totally free ā just like it is at tax time, when paying for freedom isnāt so metaphorical and everyone has to do it. The people who, like Blake Farenthold, remind us of the cost of freedom are the same ones who work overtime to make sure they never have to pay their fair share for it. Freedom isnāt free when itās your ass on the line, but when itās Farentholdās wallet? Yeah, itās free as sunshine. When some ābagger rep tells you how much they love America. Go ahead and laugh. They love it not. If they did, they wouldnāt spend so much time slapping it and the American citizen around. -Wisco [photo via LiberalAmerica.org]
Welcome back to Shaming Racists: the Halloween Edition! Ladies and gentlemen, I present:
Caitlin Cimeno, also known as Kt Cimeno of Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. Employed at Our Market Package Store.
Greg Cimeno
William Filene from Quincy, Massachusetts.
This is all public on facebook. All three pictures can be found on Caitlin Cimenoās Instagram, @ktcimeno.
Thereās no question that the three of them are racists, but Caitlin disgusted me by taking an unconsented picture of somebody elseās little girl, somebody elseās child, and using them as the target of racism for a facebook status. Iām including that too because how nasty do you have to be? As if the Halloween photos donāt answer that question.
Let me add that this stuff right here, EVERYBODY, is the reason you canāt darken your skin to portray a Black person. Because this is used to dehumanize us. Whether you intend to or not, you are perpetrating Blackface.
IT. IS. RACIST.
Caitlin Cimeno, Greg Cimeno, and William Filene are three of thousands. But justice will be served where it can. For them to make a mockery of Trayvon Martinās death is disgusting, as is every single person praising them in the comments and every person defending them.
Look at how little value Black lives have in some peopleās lives. Look at how today, yes, in 2013, our deaths are something to be laughed at, mocked, and our bodies worn as a Halloween costume. This is how we are dehumanized. Only one of thousands of ways.
Happy fucking Halloween.
PASS THIS THE FUCK ON!!!
TIP passed on: KT Cimenoās work number is (508) 693-3000. They are closed on Sundays.
Oh my god. Oh my god. Did she say this?
