for context, my siblings and i went to goodwill for its grand opening. people who arrived early got a 5% off voucher, and anyone who made a donation received another 5% off voucher, making it a total of 10% off. my siblings and i qualified for both.
while looking around, i found a morty plush buried in a plastic bag full of other plushies for $3.99. meanwhile, my siblings called my dad while he was at work to ask if he wanted us to buy him anything.
i wasn't there during the call, but afterward they told me dad wanted a camera. they went ahead and picked one that cost $49.99, along with a charger for $1.99.
when we got to the checkout, my siblings had too many items. i told them to put a few things back because i wasn't sure everything would still qualify for the discount, so they did.
then they told me to pay for the camera with my own money. i wasn't okay with that. i suggested we leave the camera and come back tomorrow with dad instead, since it would be better if he chose the one he actually wanted rather than the one they picked.
but they kept saying, "he wanted a camera. he'll just pay you back." eventually i gave in, even though i still thought it was a bad idea.
i ended up paying $50.97 after using my 5% discount. without it, it would've been around $55.97. so now dad owes me $50.97, which i'm fine with, but it still kinda sucks that i had to spend my own money in the first place.
when we got home, my sister said she'd tell dad about the camera. later, he called us and asked how goodwill was. we said it went fine and talked about what we bought.
then he asked if we had used our vouchers. we said yes, except for me because i still had a gift card, so i still have one 5% voucher left.
after that, he asked if we had spent any of our own money. my sister said yes, and he got upset. he said the vouchers were there for a reason, so why were we using our own money? he scolded us for being irresponsible.
when things calmed down, i told my sister to tell dad about the camera, but she hesitated and said she didn't want to. i started getting a little irritated.
after the call, she told me it would be better not to tell dad about the camera because he might get mad. that really upset me because they convinced me to pay for something they weren't even going to tell him about. i asked how i was supposed to get my money back, and she said she'd just pay me herself.
i told them i was frustrated because i knew buying it right then was a bad idea. we should've just waited until tomorrow so dad could choose the camera himself, but instead they pressured me into buying it.
when i tried to explain why i was upset, my sister told me it wasn't a big deal and that i was being annoying. but i think i have every right to be upset. it's my money, and now my siblings are ignoring me.
wah, family goals...
at least I got Morty
