“It’s true, but people should have the room to make mistake and then a chance to fix them too.” Not all the deities she knew took a similar stance but as someone who had her own mistakes, she was always grateful for a chance to fix those wrongs. “But they certainly make stupid mistakes but I’ve made them too. No one is really immune to stupidity.”
Every species and creature was capable of stupidity. It was part of free will and she was sure they would all rather make a mistake than not have that choice to begin with.
“Now that I’m thinking about it, no I don’t think they did. It might have been my own guilt,” she mused, absently tapping her chin. “Maybe it’s force of habit, I am always trying to accommodate everyone’s feelings that I shouldn’t presume how they felt about a situation.” While she didn’t mean to get too philosophical with it all but it was something to think on later.
-
" Depends of the kind of mistakes that are made." Truth to be told the elf didn't have deities in the highest regards contrary to what could have been expected.Power at the hands of beings that did nothing with it. Wasted potential to fix many wrongs and restore the so called balance.
Adaire lost all hope when he found his beloved sister drained by a vampire. Innocents die, his species at the bring of extinction while humans are allowed to do keep destroying a planet that isn't only theirs. The world was faulted and deities did nothing to fix it. But all things considered, he held respect for the deity in front of him, she was better than him caring for humans in their weakest moments. Like her name, she had far more mercy in her heart than Adaire.
" I once knew someone like you, she would spend all her time caring for others. In some ways, you remind me of my sister Adeline." A sad smile building on his face at the memory of his sister. " She was the best of us but was murdered at the hands of a vampire. " That ever present rage was there at the back of his mind." Don´t let others take advantage of your kindness. The world is not kind towards those with good souls."
artuswestwood:
Unsurprisingly, Artus did not feel any better about the response he got. He knew his parents would happily accept grandchild, in fact expecting them at this point, but he had yet to find a elf he would want to settle down with, let along anyone he’d want to have tie him down. It worked out well for him, he liked having his options wide open. Artus knew it wasn’t just about grandchildren, though. Their race was dwindling in numbers and they both knew something had to be done, but they weren’t sure what. “I won’t get into any trouble that you’ll hear about tomorrow,” he promised. He didn’t want rumors to spread about the fun he wanted to have tonight, anyways.
calistaemmanuel:
Calista had expected some resistance but she had hoped that Adaire would still be willing to answer her question. Which he did. Somewhat. It was a very diplomatic answer and she couldn’t quite be bothered to suppress an eyeroll at the mention of the deities’ representative. “No, that is what I want to know,” she returned, picking up her glass and sliding from the bar stool. “What you, Adaire Westwood, think should’ve happened with the girl.”
Combing the fingers of her free hand through her hair, she padded over to the couch where she reclined against the cushions with her back now facing him. “But I respect your decision not to talk about these kind of things. —I don’t like it.” She hated it, in fact. “But I respect it.”
-
He noticed the eye roll when referring to the deities at the council. It was not his place to ask, perhaps another day.
" I´m not saying it´s fair, but in the past other supernaturals were locked in Zamok for similar reasons. There was a precedent that couldn´t be ignored, even more considering how the vampires were claiming for her execution."
Adaire didn't sit next to her on the sofa, but instead chose to look into the windows to the night sky. " You know how I truly feel about vampires, Calista. It's no secret between the two of us."
Turning around and moving to seat in front of her he continued. "Do you know of any way we could trace the spell back? If the vampires have someone else to blame, we could try to push for probation at the Council. For now, let´s keep this conversation just between the two of us. I don't agree with throwing innocents into prison, but I also can´t make my opinions known and warn the ones behind the murder."
vivian-ambrose:
Viv chuckled at being called doctor, always finding it a bit odd to hear it outside of a hospital setting. “That title clocked out with me, so I’m just Viv for the rest of the night,” she mused with a nod of her head. Vivian could sense that Adaire was a bit colder than their first encounter, and she had a feeling it was due to what she was. Tensions were starting to grow between the species every day and Viv couldn’t fault him for that. She only hoped that the good she continued to try to do in VC would speak for itself to show him that she was more than just her fangs.
Viv’s eyebrow quirked up in confusion as she began tuning into her heightened senses. At first she didn’t understand what the vampire elder was talking about, about to communicate that much when she smelt it. Blood. Her nose crinkled as the smell grew stronger now that she was focused on it, followed by the sounds of fighting. “Something’s not right,” she spoke with concern, turning from their conversation to the direction of the mystery. “It’s werewolf blood… and vampire?” The vampire added, glancing down to see Adaire’s dagger before meeting his eyes. Clearly, he’d had the same thought as her and it would definitely be good to have a backup. “It’s coming from that way. I’ll scout ahead,” Viv nudged with her head before heading in that direction with lightning speed. She was back almost as instantly as she’d vanished, “Vampire- attacking a werewolf. It’s bad,” she spoke in a panic to Adaire as her eyes flared with concern. Her instincts screamed to attack back to help the wolf, but Viv hesitated, waiting for word from Adaire. The last thing she wanted to do was attack her own species in front of an elder.
-
Adaire activated a spell that made the dagger grow in size, sharper than everything made by humans it would cut even steel with a single blow." Can I trust you to act like a doctor and not a vampire? Are you able to fight? Is the wolf badly injured?"
The elf was aware of the effects the moon had on the wolves and in their strength, the two species always had a close relationship. It was a timing far too perfect not to have been orchestrated by the vampires. Sooner or later it was bound to happen as revenge for the murder during the party hosted by the spirits.Adaire just didn't expect that the vampires would have the audacity to attack wolves in Garondd. While neutral, the elf clan would not stand to have their land tarnished by the leeches.
Pulling his cell phone from his pocket, he sent a message to his wife, she would know what to do. They have contingency plans in place to guarantee the safety of their clan inside the Haven at Vievecor City Park. First and above all, elves were his biggest concern, then he would help others. It was selfish of him, but he was awarded the right to be selfish in serious matters.
" You have my permission to do whatever it´s deemed necessary to stop the attack and help me heal the wolf. It´s my territory, my rules." Gone was the elf elder known for his friendly ways, replaced by a cold hearted warrior exactly as he was raised by his parents to be.
" Push the attacker into that forest area up ahead and nature will help us to hold it back." Pain turned into despair, the headache growing stronger as Adaire could feel the wolf trying to resist and failing. " We don´t have much time, let´s go."
Strengthening his natural plant magic with earth magic, he became one with the nature around them. He would not play fair with the vampire attacker.

And somehow being himself was the problem in Caleb’s mind. He never wanted this responsibility. He had even resigned to the fact that his brother would lead instead of him when they were growing up, but his physiology and his mother’s decision would dictate otherwise.
“I know about duty. My mother made sure all her children knew of it growing up, but Artus still has you to turn to now that you’re both elders. My mother has all but washed her hands off anything to do with the pack and leading.” And rightfully so as well given how she was not part of the Lycaon pack anymore. As much as Caleb still wished for her counsel, any interference from a lone wolf would have been seen as inappropriate.
“I’m sorry…” he said after awhile. “I didn’t mean to unload all of that on you. It was very childish of me.”
-
From what Adaire understood of wolf packs, it would be badly seen if the former pack leader was involved in any way after losing her position. It would cause a disruption of the pack dynamics and question the capability of the current leader.
" My son will do well, regardless of my counsel or not. I trust his judgment as your mother probably trusts yours, Caleb. It´s not my place to meddle... have you tried to ask her for guidance not as a wolf but as a son? That bond withstands everything. No parent can see their child suffer, I feel my children's pain twice as much because I could not protect them. Appeal to your mother's maternal instinct, see if that works."
Knowing that wolves have a tendency not to welcome physical touch outside of their pack, the elf didn't reach out to Caleb to offer some comfort.
“You don´t need to worry about that. I don't mind, nor was it childish. Carrying everything inside will burden you more than if you share your problems with someone.”
gloriaharwell:
She wasn’t selling herself short exactly. Or at least Gloria didn’t think she was. There was a set of traits most people considered attractive and she possessed plenty little of them. The most prominent one being confidence, which was something she was decidedly short on. Pointing any of that out to someone who was essentially a complete stranger though, would’ve not only been rude but also very weird. So Gloria merely smiled and settled for a different truth. “You’re lucky. Both of you.”
“That I can promise. I do not tend to make a habit of walking around at night.” Not unless it couldn’t be avoided. She certainly didn’t fancy a repeat of what had happened that night. Following his line of sight, Gloria shuffled forward a step, keeping a loose grip on his arm just in case as the car slowed to a halt in front of them. “I’m probably gonna sound like a broken record to you but thank you. For everything. I hope you have a good night.” He certainly deserved it.

Vivian had just gotten off her 12 hour shift in the ER, still just as groggy as when she’d started it. The vampire was starting to wonder if she’d ever recover from the hangover from those damned punches, since it had already been a few days since the party and no luck. All Viv could think about now as her stomach protested was a greasy pile of onion rings and a warm bag of blood for dinner. It was true that Viv didn’t need to eat, but a large part of her still enjoyed the task. It was a delicious reminder of her humanity, although everything she tasted was never as good as she remembered.
As she walked up the street to the restaurant, she happened to notice a familiar face coming in the opposite direction. “Well good evening to you, Mr. Westwood,” Viv beamed with a warm smile as she approached the man. She quickly looked down to make sure her scrubs weren’t gross. Normally she didn’t care what she looked like because she’d go straight home after a shift, but approaching the Elven elder was a different story.
-
" Good evening, doctor Ambrose." He commented, looking at her scrubs. Adaire would not have believed at first that a vampire could actually control their instincts long enough to be surrounded by blood in an emergency room. What made them a threat to their patients also gave them superior skills in detecting ailments. So far he could not bring himself to be hateful towards the other only based on her species. He could have been petty, but saw the good she had been doing so far. The elf elder still maintained informants in the hospital in case she ever slipped publicly. " Busy night at work?"
He was listening to Vivian and even showing a small smile when he felt that something wasn't quite alright. His ecological empathy allowed the elf to connect on a deeper level with his immediate environment, Adaire felt emotional pain and a sickening bloodlust was giving him nausea." Pardon for interrupting you, but can you feel something strange?" He asked, pulling a small golden object from his inner pocket that looked like a miniature dagger, no bigger than a small lighter. “ Like blood, maybe?”
augustine-lycaon:
“No one is suggesting you’ve wasted time or energy, Mr. Westwood. And I think everyone enjoys peace being maintained. I’m simply disagreeing with your stance on leadership being the best one. There’s certainly room for it at the table, but I hope you will be open minded and supportive of whatever style Caleb brings as you get to know him further in the coming years.”
-
" It´s the one that works better for me. Whatever style of leadership Caleb brings to the council, I am not the one he needs to worry about. As I´ve supported your aunt and the ones before her, the same treatment will be extended to her son. Elves are the least of his worries, we do not create conflicts unless provoked."
matthew-alexander:
“Don’t take everything I say as an insult. Like I’ve said, I’m a big fan. I wouldn’t dare insult the man who provides me with endless hours of entertainment… It would be ungrateful,” the fallen deity chuckled. He did not mind Adaire’s not so veiled barbs. They were entertaining and harmless enough for now.
“As for my stage debut, I will ponder on it before I get in touch. I shouldn’t keep you too long. You must have a busy day ahead of you.”
-
" My days are always busy. And now I´m stuck with that song that was playing during the flash mob. " Marvelous, he thought to himself before saying his goodbye and leaving the demon elder to enjoy the random dance number, if he desired.
mercyedwards:
Mercy’s eyes widened at the story, slightly worried for the elf but he was standing beside her with all his hair and limbs in tact so that was a good sign. “At least it was a memorable experience,” she replied. And definitely not one the deity would likely encounter herself. “Well, you should never force anyone into something they don’t want to do,” she said with a frown. “But I don’t think I’m a terrible dancer. It depends on how much elderflower champagne I’ve drank but I think that goes for everyone. Hopefully. Maybe I am a terrible dancer.”
-
" You are right, that´s something that must never be done. Even if you want to force someone to do what you consider to be good for them. Once someone is granted the power of free will, they should be able to make their own choices, as stupid as they may be. "
Adaire tried to show others the multiple paths ahead and guide them into the safe one. However, he couldn´t, nor would make choices in their stead, all he could do was be there in the end to provide either solace or compliments.
" I still maintain that you shouldn't feel guilty because of that, it was only a dance. Did the other person complain?
makena-harris:
There was always something thrilling about watching the way elves performed their magic. As much as Makena herself possessed expert levels of magic that pertained to the natural world, she would never be as attuned to it the way Adaire was. She watched in wide eyed fascination as the forest sis as Adaire told it to and the cat was soon caught in a cage of roots. Hurrying over, she reached out to touch the creature to return it to its dead state before breathing a relieved sigh.
“Thanks for that, Mister Westwood. And I think I’d love to meet with that dark witch friend of yours, if you don’t mind. As you can see, I need all the help I can get…”
END!
beni-flores:
“An invite directly from you, Sir? Well, I’d be insane to turn down such an offer,” Beni responded with a well practiced, charming smile. “Perhaps we can chat again then,” he added confidently.
" Just show and we can discuss the play while we watch it. " He agreed looking down at his watch. "Now if you excuse me, I must go or I will be late."

Elbow propped up on the kitchen island, Calista rested her chin in her hand as they reached a comfortable lull in their conversation. There was something that had been on her mind all evening and perhaps even longer than that, if she were to be honest with herself. She had tried to avoid the topic of the council’s most recent trial as best as she could but it continued to weigh on her. Against her better judgement, Adaire had somehow managed to worm his way past her walls and her more than occasional denial aside, Calista had grown quite fond of the elf. But now the fear that he was going to make her regret that lapse of judgement was putting a considerable dent in her mood. After all, he was the closest she had to family.
Fingertips tracing along the rim of her wine glass and making it sing, the muscles in her jaw gave a nervous twitch. “Can I ask you something?” Her gaze moved from deep burgundy to lock onto his youthful features. “The council’s trial… How did you vote?”
-
He looked up from his seated position at the deity before him. Calista appeared to be under some sort of internal struggle. Like his children when they wanted to tell him something they knew he wouldn´t like to hear.
" Of course you can. You never need to ask me that." He would answer the best way he could. At the mention of the latest trial, Adaire now understands why she was having second thoughts if she should pose the question.
" I won´t discuss council matters, because I believe it to be wrong and disrespectful towards the other elders. All I can say is that the elves and the deities were stuck in the middle. The story had two victims, not only one. I voted for a lesser sentence and that´s all I can say. What is it that you really want to know, Calista?"
gloriaharwell:

“Yeah, I somehow doubt your wife would feel threatened by me either way,” Gloria supplied with a hint of self-deprecation but a smile on her lips. She wasn’t sure about any children but his wife she had seen pictures of. Mrs. Westwood was equally gorgeous and they made for one enviable pair for reasons that went beyond their good looks. That wasn’t why she hesitated to accept his offer. No, her reasons and problems were all self-made. As usual.
Letting out a heavy breath, she attempted to shift her weight around to alleviate some of the discomfort she was feeling only to realize once more that she was lacking the required balance. Reaching for his arm at last, Gloria finally managed to right herself. “I feel like I owe you a proper sign of gratitude but I wouldn’t even know where to begin,” she admitted quietly, gnawing on her bottom lip as she looked out at the street ahead of them. He had gone well out of his way to help her and a simple ‘thank you’ almost seemed like an insult in comparison.
-
" Don´t sell yourself short, Gloria. " He said, noticing the tone she was using. She appeared to be a lovely young woman and the elf believed she didn't see herself as such. " I´m stupidly in love with my wife and she knows it, that´s why I said it." And the elf also had no problem in admitting he was, he just couldn´t share how long he had been this way, seven centuries.
" You don't owe me a thing. I helped because I wanted. Maybe don´t go out often during the night? The streets can be dangerous." His cell phone chimed warning that the taxi was arriving at its destination. " The taxi will be here soon. I think it´s that one over there."

“You’re probably right,” Caleb nodded and followed Adaire towards the forest.
“I don’t like making such big decisions,” the wolf grumbled under his breath. This was not the first time Adaire had heard this, but Caleb found it difficult to hide his feelings about this matter. Taking on the role of pack leader of the biggest pack on the island was intimidating and Caleb still did not want that responsibility despite it riding firmly on his shoulders. “I’m not like you, Adaire. I’m not like any of the other elders in the city. I’m sure that’s obvious to you because it’s certainly obvious to me.” The other elders all seemed to want to lead.
-
" No one actually likes making big decisions. We have a duty and sometimes difficult decisions need to be taken."
The young wolf doesn´t seem to believe that he was the right person for the job. Adaire believed that no parent would burden their children more than they could take. He never pushed his children into taking a position on the council, however, when Artus showed interest he couldn´t have been more proud.
" Look at me and my boy. We are not alike in the slightest and we might not always agree on everything, but I know Artus will always do what he believes to be correct and I respect that. He doesn´t have to be like me to be a good elder and I´m his father. So you don´t need to be like everyone else, Caleb. Just be yourself.”
divyaxeffendi:
Divya had her nose in a spell book, as usual when she had free time in between teaching classes. Despite being an expert in many, she believed it never hurt to continue expanding her skills, especially in other forms of magic beyond the Effendi coven’s favored soul magics. Telekinesis was what she was currently practicing when she had one of those feelings that someone was coming. And they would be here rather soon. Her expertise in divination granted the elder witch a certain awareness that she took advantage of, especially lately now that a murder increased some of her more subtle paranoia.
Fortunately, she never believed herself to be in any harm with this visitor and she smiled wide as her friend and elder elf Adaire Westwood walked in. Well, more like floated in, the man always so poised and graceful. Elves with their charms and beauty were what immediately attracted Divya to their kind, as did their proclivity for many of the same types of magic her coven practiced.
“Adaire, what a lovely surprise,” she greeted him with a rare warmth not many received. She shut her book and setting it on the nearest surface to give the other her full attention. “Mm, have you been working your magic in the garden again?” she guessed. Indeed, she knew what it was, her knowledge of Adaire’s hobby and a quick glimpse of her seer skills already confirmed what was hidden underneath the elegantly wrapped box, yet the actual sight did the beautiful flower far more justice than a vision in her mind’s eye. Her dark eyes lit up with joy, her smile now split from ear to ear as she gushed over the gorgeous thing that was indeed so very her. “It’s absolutely stunning, Adaire, thank you,” she praised as she took it out to properly admire it in full in the light. “I love it! I’ll be showing it off to everyone I can around here.”
-
" Yes. I have." While it was not necessary to confirm her questions, because Divya had the gift of looking into the future Adaire still tried to act in a regular manner as he would with everyone else." Someday I will not have enough space for all of the plants, my wife already says that I need to stop bringing animals home."
And she was obviously right. However, they had an understanding. After healing the wild animals, Adaire would release them back into their home, the elf couldn´t bring himself to keep creatures in cages. It was hideous to steal their freedom that way.
" You´re quite welcome." He beamed with the praise. " See it as doing me a favor and giving it a home. It reminded me of you, so I had to bring you two together. "
Casting a look towards the spell book that she had been reading, he couldn't help asking. " When was the last time you did something besides teaching and studying? Enjoy your life a little, Divya. The future will always be there no matter what you do. "
