ā...I feel like freaking out is the worst idea. How about we stay calm, and let the people who know how to handle it, handle it,ā he stared the man down, shoulders tense, he himself worried. Not wanting to have to handle this, he turned to the nearest man and semi-glared.
Two days in and Ambrose had finally synthesised enough motion sickness medication to allow his lab to work. It had taken a while when working from grain sugar up to it and he sort of missed his extensive chemical bank, but he had the time in the next few years to rebuild and restock. He was outside getting coffee.
He turned to someone who seemed to not be able to handle their side effects, āIf you donāt tell anyone else, I can sort you out, but youāll have to keep real quiet about it,ā

Believing you have a place in the world is integral to every personās existence. Whether itās a sport you play or a place you live, everyone is from somewhere and is going somewhere. Ambrose had been told he was from a little town in Missouri and had met a woman every so often who said she was his mom. He grew up in a lab, was given lessons by men in lab coats and always assumed that was exactly what every other kid grew up like. They would teach him things, give him tests. He didnāt meet another child until he was twelve years old. Thatās when he worked out it was mostly lies.
Ambrose was a test tube baby. He was engineered, made, grown in a glass tank, birthed from a metal womb. He was a test in how intelligence was linked to genetics, and by god did they find out. Ambrose was a genius, he learned so fast it was astonishing. The problem was, they forgot to help him develop socially and ended up with a tiny child who would answer How do we stop global warning? with Kill enough humans to maintain the system. It was after that that they decided to try to normalise the little tyke. He couldnāt handle other kids, he found them too difficult to talk to, he would cry, run back to the researchers and ask to be given math problems instead of being asked to talk to other kids.
Thankfully, a German Professor took him in, helping him integrate. He learned about people, trying to fit in. It was so much harder than anything heād come in contact and he was sixteen before he was allowed to go to public school, but by then, heād already well passed the level of learning the other kids were on, yet was still unable to talk about anything non-academic. They tried to put him in college early, but he would break out into tears every time anyone looked at him funny. So, they left him with his college problems but kept him with kids his own age. It really didnāt help when he grew up attractive, having girls ask him out or try to kiss him only worsened it all.
By the time he was eighteen and āstarting collegeā he was already well passed everyone. It was no surprise that he loved being in college, doing research, getting degrees. It was a chance for him to shine, however he didnāt exactly excel with anyone other than his research partners. But by 2020, the world was falling apart, and his research was becoming much more important. Research teams used him as a problem solver. He was more like a computer than a human, purely logical, he was beside his father when he told the Chancellor of Germany that there was no feasible way for everyone to live. He helped his father and others to build the ship, much younger than anyone else trusted to work on it, but his lack of empathy helped him say the obvious but heartless outcomes. It hit him only afterward, when he realised how few people statistically would live. They kept him working, locked in his lab, working out how dense thruster walls would have to be, how much hydrogen they would need on every ship, doing the math. He was nowhere near the best at everything, but his knowledge was varied, and his mind was not plagued by the illnesses of old age like other experts.
He had come to terms with the death of others when he got on the ship, he was one of the first, having been on the ship checking specifications. When the eruption happened he was well within the ship and found out only afterwards that his research team and father hadnāt made it.
Henneke Dragoslab was born to a gypsy woman out of wedlock under a birch tree. As she gave birth, she passed and both the Druid and Healer present werenāt able to save her. The baby boy cried out into the air and a bird landed on the tree above him, cawing out as he shouted. From this moment, his fate was set.
Henneke was raised within the home of an Elder of Faeism and was prophesied to be great of some sort. A bird cawing over the birth of a child symbolizes a great future or the ability for the child to form a great future. When he was only seven years old, he asked to become a Sapling of the Fae and was granted his wish. He learned of the ways of the Druids and their customs and before long he was fourteen and was to take the test to become a Druid. On this day, he along with hundreds of other Saplings were brought out to the carst Stone Forest in the North of Cyrell. As he was undertaking the ritual, which entailed finding an animal and bringing it to the Elders, he felt an inkling of something other, which led him to climb one of the towers and up an oak tree. There he found a nest. Taking an egg and bringing it back, the Elders before him were astounded. The little egg hatched in the boys warm hands and within the egg shell sat a newborn Harpy Eagle. This Harpy Eagle was chosen as his bird and travels with him on his shoulder.
Henneke was ordained not a Druid that day, but an Alder. He would lead their belief to new heights and he would solve a great issue. He was sent to the capital of Landmere and studied under Scholars, Knights, Trade and Guild Masters, Merchants and Masters of all manner of trades; he trained with Master thieves and Assassins and from his time learning, he grew to form a great understanding of how the world worked. At twenty-one, Henneke was ordained an Elder, and was then a fully realized Alder.Ā
As the leader of his sect of the religion, he advises kings and played a large role in the formation of the peace treaty between the three Kingdoms. He changed the formation of the religion and is integral to the lives of the peasant people.
Alder Dragoslab holds the unique position of holding a seat on the Council of Elders, which leads Faeism and its practice. He is currently the Archdruid and is expected to hold this position until his death, or until he decides another is more suited to the position.Ā
He spends much of his time moving between kingdoms and has become extremely well acquainted with all three Kingdoms and their royalty. However, his true home is Landmere. He is a scholar and a physician and loves to practice when he has the time. He is knowledgeable beyond his years and his wisdom causes many to hold him in high regard. His moderate attitude has lead him to hold a very anti-war attitude and has made him some enemies. While he would never halt progress, he disagrees with the movement of many away from the core beliefs of their religion and has ordered exorcisms of those he sees as deeply sinful.Ā
Henneke truly believes in his religion, in all aspects, and is blind in his devotion. He finds unbelievers sinful and has been known to exert his power to cause merchants who are outspokenly against the faith to loose their ability to trade in the markets of Tyric, Knights who are against the faith or who go against their vows to have lesser positions in court and Innkeepers who do not show the correct gratitude to their guests to be heavily taxed. He is quite a force to be reckoned with, but rarely exerts any power.Ā
His days are spent giving out various blessings, advising royals, maintaining holy spaces, studying ancient texts and healing those he can while on his travels. As a religious leader to all people, the Archdruid advises not only royals, but also thieves, brewers, scribes, knights, bookies, fighters, forge masters and a variety of other people. Law and religious law remain separate and various illegal acts are considered fine with the Archdruid.Ā
Above all, Henneke tries his best to maintain the religious guide given to them within the lands and above all, he believes peace is the way forward, through any means necessary.
Faeism is a polytheistic faith based on the belief in the Fae, which are various Deities which govern the Earth. There are two groups of gods worshipped, which are the set pantheon and the ethereal.
The Ethereal pantheon consists of the primary God, known as the Other. They are considered the creator of the Gods and they are the body which governs life. It is they who is met when a person dies and they who choose the next life of the person who has died. The other members of the Ethereal Pantheon are the muses, these are Gods which embody pure ideals, such as poetry, heroism, truth etc. They are seen by humans in the sky as their assembly is seen in the night sky. The Moon is the shadow cast by the Other as they sit on their seat, the Sun, and block out the light given off by the evil of the universe. The Sun is the seat of the Other and is the only place from which the Sky cannot block the chaos of the Outside from. The stars are seen listening to the Other at night and during the day they come down to the earth and guard the living. They are said to come to the earth as birds and it is believed all birds are Stars able to travel to the sky, although only some go to listen and talk to the Other each night.
The Set Pantheon is Earth and is made up of the Gods which came together to build the Earth in its current form. The first is the Mother, she is seen in the soil and the rock and is the giver of the materials of life. She is prayed to for fertility and she is the patron of those who reaps from the earth or builds. Her brother is the Ice. He is seen in famine, disease, the Winter, and is the God who takes back the materials of life and recycles them back to the earth. He is the patron of killers, thieves and those who work to restore order. Next is the Sky, he is the father and mother of the air and the twins of the Storm. He is neither a man nor a woman and he holds the Earth away from the sheer power of the Other to protect it. He is the Patron of Kings and all those that protect the weak. His children are the Storm, these can be felt in the thunder and lightning of storms. They are the bringers of change to the world, they represent chance and chaos and are the Patrons of Bookies, fighters and all those who rely on chance. In addition, the Sea is seen as the Mother of the angels and the demons and from her, all animals were made and all animals came. Respect must be shown to her when fishing, as she is the patron of fishers and disrespect can lead to shipwreck. The rest of the assembly of the earth is made up of the Demons and Angels along with the Stars.
Angels are the bringers of peace and serenity and are seen in the water, they are constantly changing but always the same. They are neither good nor bad and are the siblings of the demons. Angels give back, while demons consume through fire. Demons are seen through fire and bring hate and destruction without cause. They are seen as tricksters and liars and can quickly kill. These, along with the stars, are the lesser gods of the Set Pantheon and these three groups govern human life. They are the patrons of all humans in any act they do, good bad or both. If a person is intending a good action, they pray to the angels, a bad, they pray to the demons and one which is both or neither and they seek the help of the fairies, also known as the stars.
Often, people will choose a particular God to worship, many of these Gods are Angels, Demons and Fairies. These Gods are no less powerful than the Primary Gods, however, their feats are less known and they are seen as less reliable. Druids continually remind people that worshipping the less defined Gods is perhaps a bad idea, but few listen.
None of these Gods are seen as good or bad, rather as indifferent. Each is as holy as the next, but they give help only when they agree with the person praying.
The core belief of Faeism is that Order is the natural way and seeking to change for a selfish need leads only to evil. It is seen through the Gods that selfish needs must be forgotten in order to maintain civilisation and beliefs such as homosexuality and the like lead away from the safety of the Gods.
During the day, prayer takes place. This is when believers of the faith can use their talents to perform to their potential. From this, favours can be asked of the gods. As Birds are the messengers of the Gods and Trees are the place the Gods rest, it is typical to pray in heavily forested gardens in which birds are present. Offerings of seeds are made to birds in order to carry the prayer to the God in question. Other animals are seen as ancestors and are treated with respect. Hunted animals and animals kept for agriculture or for riding in the case of horses are to be treated with respect as they are humans who were good in life and found their way back to earth. Some time should be given each day to seek harmony with the world in order to prevent the god's wrath. This can be done by doing the job they have chosen well, or by helping others to do the same.
During the night, the assembly of the Ethereal Pantheon takes place and all human thought is seen to be more powerful. Due to this, poets and scholars are seen to do their best work if they sleep until dusk, wake and work, then rest again till dawn. Decisions are best made at night and Druids are available at night to give advice. Prayer cannot take place at night as the gods are in the Sky talking to the Other and will not hear prayers at this time.
When a person is born in Faeism, the gods are thanked for giving the life to the child. The child is blessed with the elements of the gods and is soaked with water to bring good fortune. The babiesā cradle should not be lit with a flame, as it brings bad luck on the child. If a bird crows when a child is born, it is said that the person will have a great impact on the world.
Marriage is done under a tree with a presiding druid. They are bound with a string at the hand and rites are said. They then travel to the forest and consummate their marriage in the dirt to ask the Earth Mother for the gift of fertility, as animals do. Someone must witness this to ensure the marriage is true. An Untrue marriage can be said to avoid the unity of the world and is disallowed. It is seen as an offence against the Fae.
Death is marked with happiness in Faeism. For the Rich, they are soaked in water and then burned to ash in the heat of the hottest forge, their ash is used as soil to plant a tree, their soul can then travel to the Other for judgement. The poor burn their dead the best they can and then throw the ash to the water, this allows them to travel as fast as they can to the Other. It is considered worse than death to be buried whole, or worse, to have a part preserved, as this prevents judgement and ensures entrapment within the plane.
The Followers of Faeism can choose to devote their life to it. This is done by becoming a Sapling. A Sapling is trained to become a Druid under a Druid. When they are ready to become a Druid, they travel to the Stone Forest in Landmere, find an animal and bring it to the Elders. This shows what they will specialise in. Some Druids are healers, others work with various professions, some advice.
The leaders of the Druids are the council. This is made up of Elders, who are Druids who have survived a long time and Alders, who are young people who have exceptional talent. The head of the council is the Archdruid and is almost always an Alder.
There are very few true Druids and many religious figures are men and women who have failed the Druid trials. This leads to so-called groups of Sisters and Brothers. These are people who have failed to prove their Piety to the Council but still wish to help others. They are typically much less knowledgeable about the faith and often mislead the laypeople around the rules of the faith.
There is no true religious text of Faeism. The religion's history and rules are written in an old language onto the stones of the Stone Forest and only Druids are allowed to enter this place. However, the stories and rights of the faith have been transcribed by both Druids and Scholars throughout the ages.
Druids each have a bird which travels with them - they are their direct messenger to the gods and they are meticulously trained to be able to help the Druid in all things. While non-Druids do own birds of prey, Eagles are reserved for Royalty and Clergy. It is often that a King, Queen or Prince who greatly betters the life of their people will be gifted by the Archdruid with an Eagle. Therefore it is considered a crime against Gods to kill any bird, but killing an Eagleā¦ People have been hung for less.
Above all religions in all other kingdoms, Faeism is perhaps the most disorganised. This offers it both advantages and disadvantages. It caused it to win out in the early warring kingdoms as it allowed royalty to make law without intervening like many other religions in the area did. Additionally, there are various holy areas throughout the three kingdoms which can be visited, unlike other religions which called for long pilgrimage to distant lands. It also means that the followers of the faith are not uniform in their understanding of it. Many believe the Gods will punish those who kill, cheat or steal, whereas this is not the case. Druids throughout the ages have preached that each person has their place in life and that thieves, assassins and bookies are no different. In addition to this, the faith has an extremely complicated relationship with homosexuality. Through culture, it is seen as deeply negative, however, in religion, the bedding of men by men is not necessarily a sin. Homosexuality is a sin, above murder or anything else, when it tries to change tradition. The idea of two men marrying is against the gods. Not only this but marriages between men and women who do not bear children are seen to have been disapproved by the Earth Goddess and can be broken up. For this reason, many couples who cannot bear take peasant children to raise and claim they are their own children.
