The sole daughter of a couple of immigrants from Senegal, Adama was born and raised in Holloway, surrounded by magic, along with two older brothers. Her parents, being somewhat of high status in the African witch community, came to the United States due to business opportunities in Raleigh, and ended up settling in Holloway, also finding a definitive place within the Hollow Coven. Adama practices Ancient Magic, but ever since she could remember, she’s had an affinity with the Earth element. From an early age, her hunger for knowledge had her devouring her grandmother’s books on herbs and on how they could be both medicinal and dangerous to people.

As she grew, so did her ambitions. She kept on studying herbs, as well as getting her double major in Chemistry and Biology, and then cutting down to a few cosmetology and herbalism courses to finally put into practice a dream she’s had: to open her own shop selling products for the body, hair and skin care with a little hint of magic in them (and she takes on personalized requests too, of course).

She is very warm, motherly and easy to talk to, but don’t step on her toes because she will bite back. She is also very vocal about what she considers it to be right or wrong for witches within her coven, the Hollow Coven. When she’s not working, you can spot her either at a cafe munching on something sweet, or at the bar, picking on the gossip and trying to unwind after a long day.

It took Joey a moment to realise that the older woman was beside her and she let out a relaxed breath. “Thank you, thank you so much,” she replied, huddling herself under the umbrella. “I had been out for a walk, I got caught in it. And it just kept getting heavier and heavier,” she told her. “That actually sounds perfect,” she breathed. She needed to get her mind off of the weather… and her magic. She’d lost control again.

not only did it have a lot to do with the fact that they were witches, but adama had also had to deal with being followed by strange men simply because she was a woman, especially whenever she went over to raleigh. bigger cities, bigger problems, she reckoned. “it’s okay. i’m right here with you.” she rubbed joey’s arm in a soothing way as they made their way back into the shop, locking its doors behind them. “i think i might have some dry clothes somewhere. why don’t you sit down? what kind of tea would you like?”

      the moon had a way of bringing out the best and the worst in people. claim it by the ocean tide or by the light that echoed on every surface creating a second day, it had a sway in the blood that affected each differently. to see some within holloway with dark circles under their eyes with memories of a recent strain weighing their limbs was simply a part of the moon’s natural sway. the gunshots and pack of strangers flooding the area was far from natural. 

      even if he wasn’t certain, there were easy assumptions to make about the chaos breaking loose— and after such a wonderful evening he had hoped to continue in private. instead the conclusions meant if those who were weakened after the moon were in danger, his own health was not too far to follow.

      “ we need to get off the streets, ” he urged. hopefully the looks of potential worry or concern meant the being next to him was as shocked by the sights before them. “ we need to get out of sight, now. ”

adama couldn’t remember the last time she’d heard shots being fired among the streets of holloway, but now that it was happening, all that addie could think about was in the safety of these people still on the streets. she was in full emergency mode, urging people to get to a safe spot, especially after the storm that had just hit the town and had already made a mess around there.

she spotted someone lying on the ground, still breathing, thankfully. someone else was rushing by, also urging others to get to safe place. “hey, can you help me get him up?” she asked the taller man. "my store was not far from here and i can help him there, but i need to get him there in the first place.”

Joey heard footsteps behind her, trying to compose herself. She quickly wiped at her eyes, not wanting the other to see her emotions. “Sorry, sorry. Hey, I was just… out for a walk.” She paused. “I…” she started as she hid her hand behind her back.

adama should be closing the store by now, but she figured that with the storm, people might need a place to stay dry, so she kept her doors open. she’d gone outside just for a moment, to ensure that everything else was secure and that’s when she spotted joey, followed by someone she didn’t exactly recognize. before they could approach the younger witch, adama swooped in, arm over the younger woman’s shoulders and covering her with her umbrella. “what are you doing in the rain, jo? come on in.” she said, practically dragging josephine away from the stranger. a glance over her shoulders and she noticed they’d stopped walking. “let’s go inside. i’ll make you a cup of tea, okay?”

Theo shrugged his shoulders. “You haven’t seen the morons i work with, it’s not a given.” he flopped down opposite the witch. He liked the way she looked at him, it was never quite affection, nor endearment, sometimes it was almost like she was weary of him. It only made him more determined. He chuckled. “Where would our dear leader be without you huh?” He tilted her head, watching her carefully. “Oh you know… night shifts, Roland family expectations, extreme disappointment on my parents part. The usual. Life in this town never really changes.”

family expectations, she could relate with. the small-town life left little to no room for those not to be set upon the shoulders of children, even if adama was the youngest among her siblings. it still placed a great amount of what she could and must be in this town, and she could only hope that wherever her parents were, they were proud of her. her hand rested on his shoulder and addie gave it a light squeeze. “sorry to hear your parents are still pestering you with their projections.” leaning in, she planted a kiss on his cheek. she didn’t exactly pity theo, but it wasn’t his fault that his parents had projected a lot of their plans on him. “and well, i’m no mentari, but if you need anything, you can always come to me. you know that, right?”

“Now who ever claimed i was smart?” He clicked his tongue, grinning at the fellow witch. Theo chuckled, knowing the witch’s moves far too well to argue. He watched carefully, his fingers tracing the back of her neck as he clasped the pendant. The fae had been right about one thing… it did look beautiful on. “Ah… the gift for me.” he spun on his heel, clapping a few times before bouncing to the wine. “This bottle has been sitting around for 800 years just waiting for a special occasion and what better occasion then this? How have you been?”

ah. that little word trick to make one compliment you twice. adama was well aware of those, since she’d used them herself before. maybe not lately, but it has definitely happened. a playful eyeroll and she cocked her head to the side while watching theo. to this day, she still couldn’t quite figure out what was it about it him that seemed so... alluring to her in a way. otherwise, why was she still here, giving him her time of day? there had to be something. “you’re a doctor, rolland. it kind of implies that you’re smart.” squinting her eyes at him, the witch still smiled as the conversation went on easily between them. turning around, adama almost cursed at herself for letting her eyelids flutter shut at his touch, but when she turned around, she had already regained her composure. “well, if you play your cards right, it might not be the only gift you’ll get. but we’ll see.” the witch offered him a shrug, then picked up the bottle of wine he’d brought in to read the label. “i’ve been okay. mostly busy with work and helping mentari out here and there. you? how are things in your life?”

Aria grinned at Adama’s comment, laughing as her eyes brightened. “You flatter me, dear, as always. Really, it’s my job to know these things, especially when it comes to my regulars. Loyalty does breed loyalty, you know. Though I must admit, Adama, you are my favorite customer. Don’t tell the others, though. I wouldn’t want to break any hearts.” She laughed. Taking a box from beneath the counter, Aria began moving behind the display case, pulling the requested donuts from their places. “Of course, isn’t that how these things always go? That’s why, in some ways, I find this time of year easier to stomach, living away from my own mother. If I forget to get her a gift, I can always blame the delay on shipping.” Winking, she laughed lightly. “Really, though, better planning would do wonders for some people, you’re right about that. I’m glad business is going well for you, however. Things are going well over here, thanks for asking. I’m just about ready to cycle out my Spring menu, with Summer just around the corner. I’ve been trying to brainstorm a few new things, but it seems my baker’s creativity has flown the coop for the time being.” Shrugging, she moved towards the register. “I’m sure it won’t be like this for long. Any big plans for the upcoming week?”

adama chuckled at the woman’s words. “it’s not flattery if it’s the truth, ari. you of all people should’ve been used to them by now.” as much as addie loved being praised, it all tasted better when it came from people she cared about. it wasn’t like she wanted to please everyone, but when a friend would tell you that you’re their favorite customer, it didn’t sound phony. “okay, good. because there’s no way in hell that you’ll ever get rid of me, so even if i wasn’t your favorite, you’d still be stuck with me.” although a blabber herself, adama would often find herself just listening to other people talking. one, because it sometimes led to good gossip and two, because, in her line of work, if she didn’t listen and catch on a few things here and there, she wouldn’t be able to help her customers as well as she normally did. “how is your mother doing? any chances of her visiting anytime soon?” addie’s parents had passed a few years ago, she could only hope that she had been able to make her mother proud while in life. “no big plans for me. maybe stopping by raleigh for a few things? i do need to ask mentari what will be the coven’s plans for the full moon, but other than that. i’ve got nothing. what about you? if you’re not busy, we could go to a club in raleigh? have a few drinks, a little fun... what do you say?”

  “i was just curious what the benefits were of your products, they smell and look amazing but i’m not very well versed in what exactly they can do for you.” she admitted, a hand nervously motioning to a few of the bottles on the table in front of her. emel wanted to ask if they put some kind of enchantment on the product her gaze unable to really look away from the smooth creams and strong fragrant bottles. “i hope that doesn’t come off wrong, i saw them from outside and just seemed too good to walk by.”

adama couldn’t help but keep that smile on her lips as her new customer spoke. there was a hint of uncertainty that came with measuring one’s words in her, that the witch knew it very well, both from her upbringing and from dealing with customers on a daily basis. “it definitely doesn’t come off wrong.” addie waved her hand in order to ease the other woman’s thoughts. people were allowed not to know her products. it wasn’t like her products were that well known nationally, much less, internationally for her to be assuming things. “but my question to you--oh... i don’t believe i’ve caught your name? i’m adama, by the way.” she offered her hand, and once introductions were out of the way, addie continued. “my question to you, emel, is what are you looking for? you see, besides your regular skincare products, we also make personalized products that cater to one’s specific need.”

she  wasn’t one to waste money on things, it was hard to come by but that didn’t stop her from browsing and surprisingly holloway had a number of stores. her gaze would linger from the windows, enjoying the variety of things all the places seemed to offer. one particular kept catching her eye, such a place wasn’t seen often - the little jars of almost seem to glimmer through the window. it honestly pulled her right inside, the siren scanned the items with more than a confused gaze - it held curiosity, confusion, maybe a little disappoint she had a feeling she wouldn’t be walking out with much.

adama offered the last customer a smile as she handed them a paper bag with their purchases inside and wished them a good day. once mother’s day was behind her, now her next big sale would be for people interested in doing some herb baths or aura cleansing baths for the eclipse, which would be on the following week of mother’s day. it made the witch to make a mental note to check on the herbs and prepare some pouches just in case. she also needed to check some things with mentari.

the bells chimed behind the entrance door and adama turned around to greet the new customer with her usual smile. “hi, welcome to nature scent! i do work here. what can i help you with today?”

The intensity of the footfalls which entered her shop caught Aria’s attention immediately, along with the air of stress practically radiating from the woman. Turning, she forced a smile onto her face, though in no time it had softened to something natural. “Adama! It’s good to see you too! It has been far too long.” The question caught Aria a bit off-guard, though she didn’t let it show. Leaning forward, she took in the day’s selection as she mulled carefully over her response. “Obviously, I’m forced to make the distinction that all of my donuts are delicious! But, for what I think you need….I’ll recommend the chocolate salted caramel eclair. I know it’s kind of a…New take on a traditional favorite. But, I think you’ll find it to your liking. I’ll wrap them up for you. How’s business going. This is a pretty busy season for you, right?”

whereas adama had always been an excellent cook, she fell short when we talked about sweets. her hands had been made for herbs, that much she knew, which made things easier in the kitchen, that with the seasonings, spices, etc. but, as much as she would have loved to be a well-rounded cook and baker, she left it for really talented people like aria. “see, the thing is that you always know what i need, and that’s why i’m constantly leaving my fate in your hands.” there was a hint of a joke in her words, but it made things friendlier, she reckoned. “i’m sure i’ll love both of them. and business is going good. a little hectic because all of a sudden, people have realized they have mothers and are doing last-minute shopping for them. how are things going for you?”

Theo was nothing if not honest and if he was honest, he had nearly completely forgotten his fellow witch’s birthday. Lucky faithful social media had reminded him just in time and he’d time to drop into the local store before closing. He held out a paper bag and a small box. “Would i ever forget your birthday?” He flashed her a smile. “The wine is for me. But this is for you.” he slid her a small box, tied together with a delicate ribbon. “The Faery in the store swore it was the finest she’d ever seen. I thought you could use it for something.” He watched as she pulled out the Alchemist’s pendant.

this question brought a slight smirk to her lips. one adama would later regret allowing to come to surface, mostly because she knew how complicated things could be between these two. but she couldn’t deny that the attention felt nice. “you wouldn’t if you’re smart.” she replied while giving theo a pointed look, that smirk still on her lips as she took the small box in her hands. “and we both know how much smart you are.” as adama pulled out the pendant he’d bought her, it actually didn’t come off as a surprise that theo would pick something this beautiful. he’s always had good taste. i mean, wasn’t she the living proof of that? “this is lovely, theo. would you mind put it on me?” walking around the counter, she made her way towards her fellow warlock and,  pulling her dark curls away from her shoulders, adama turned around so he could put the pendant on her. once it was safely around her neck, she gave it another look before turning once again to face him. “you mentioned wine?”

adama was about to close the shop when the bells rang softly, announcing the presence of a customer. usually, things tended to calm down towards the end of the day, but given the fact that it was mother’s day this weekend, adama had decided to close the shop an hour later to accommodate everyone. 

“hi, welcome to—oh, it’s you.” her tone started out warm and friendly, but as soon as she recognized theo’s sly smirk, adama let out a sigh. “what can i do for you, roland? please tell me you come bearing gifts, since it was my birthday yesterday.”

A tight smile crossed her lips as she finished the job, turning to pull a paper towel from the holder next to the register. A flurry of movement caught her eye and she looked up, forcing her friendliest smile onto her face. “Hey, welcome to Glazey Days! Anything I can help you with?”

letting out a sigh, adama stormed into glazed days hoping the goddess would have mercy on her soul and grant her some sweet break from the hectic and chaotic moments she was having at the store because of mother’s day.

Letting out a sigh, Elise slid the incorrect mail into the outgoing slot. “I’ve had this box for over 2 months now”, she said primarily to herself. “You’d think the previous residents would have changed their address by now.”

adama hadn’t been this stressed in weeks, and yet, here she was, personally trying to fix an address issue involving one of her clients. upon hearing the person beside her mention having address problems, too, she could sympathize with their pain. “i think moving is probably a stressful moment, right? it has to be. that’s why they keep forgetting to change their address. but why did it take you two months to return it, though?”
