After everything, the heartache they had both endured, the attempts to move on and the sour gazes she gave her former boyfriend, it had all been a lie. They had listened to the words of a prior friend, one who was never truly a friend at all. She felt like a fool, for listening to Sophia and not even asking Ethan himself. If they’d communicated better, none of this would have lasted so long. She felt idiotic, and lost for words. Feeling his hand reach for hers, she did not protest, allowing him to slip his fingers with hers. She looked up, locking her gaze with his, heaving a sigh. “We both believed her, this is a mess we both made.” She shrugged, biting her lip in thought. Where did they go from here? So much time had past, was it really time to rekindle something that had been gone so long? Besides, Ethan had moved on, he had been in relationships since, nothing would return to how it was before. “What is there to say? She screwed us over….but…you’v—we’ve moved on…” She tried to hide her feelings, sighing deeply. “I wish things were different.”
Ethan didn’t quite know how he was feeling at that moment, his thoughts were occupied by the lie that he had believed for years, by the memories of the hostility that the pair shared after their break up. There was nothing either of them could do to take that back, to take back the words that had been said and the actions done. Perhaps if everything had been different, if they had chosen to ignore Sophia then everything would be as it should have been between them - he only wished that it could have been that way. An aching pain in his chest brought him to a stop as Natalia spoke, her words resonating deep within his stomach. She was right.. He had managed to moved on - not very easily but.. He had. But, that was all over now yet - he still felt an obligation to remain faithful to Faye.. Even though they hadn’t been together very long he cared for the deceased woman deeply, he still mourned her. “I do too..” He agreed, brows furrowing in sadness as he peered toward the young woman who formerly held his heart - the one he thought would have held it for the rest of his life. Yet now, all he felt when looking at her was an aching pain in his chest, a longing pain. “I’m sorry, Lia..” He sighed as his hand moved to his brow, thumb and forefinger smoothing over the area.
