I’m excited to finally share what I did for the current Guzu Gallery show here in Austin! 

The show is all about cartoons and animation and I just HAD to do something from my favorite Disney song (any maybe favorite Disney movie), Hercules. Hercules is incredibly underrated as far as I’m concerned!

A Kiss From A Prince

The Fates are a fickle thing. Of all the cast members, somehow it’s Annabeth that gets sick, robbing her of her voice and making her feel like microwaved death. The only thing keeping her on her feet is a ridiculous amount of cough medicine her roommate, and fellow cast member, Piper had picked up for her. If it were any other summer job she might have thought about taking a day off, but Annabeth is gunning for an internship with the Imagineers next summer, and she wants to be able to boast that she never missed a day of work. So, voiceless and half delirious, Annabeth has dragged herself into work and gotten Piper to translate for her. Mercifully their supervisor had pulled her from the registers and put her on stock duty.

Annabeth spends hours restocking and straightening, lining up all the stuffed animals and organizing the clothing by size. Every time a special guest moves something out of place she’s there to put it back and fix anything else that’s out of place on the display. Just because she’s sick doesn’t mean everything isn’t going to be perfect, or that she’s not going to give everything she has.

She’s finishing up getting a stubborn Mickey Mouse plushy to stay standing up when there’s a tug on her shirt. The plushy falls over and takes a few more down with it and Annabeth suppresses a sigh, instead she smiles and turns to see who needs her attention. Standing beside her is a little girl with long brown hair in a Princess Belle costume staring in wide eyed horror at the plushies that have fallen over. It takes the girl a few seconds to realize Annabeth is waiting on her.

“I’m really sorry,” the girls eyes drop, her face turning bright pink. “I just wanted to ask if you have any more of the Princess Belle pins. I just need the one where she’s on the merry-go-round and I’ll have all of them but you don’t have any with the other pins and I only need that one and I’ve been waiting all year to come here and get it and I don’t see it…” The little girl’s eyes are starting to brim with tears.
