Simplicity is the discipline of minimizing, refining or editing back a design. There is a general consensus in architecture that less is better, or that less is more striking. We think of simplicity because we want a piece of message to be as clear as possible. We think of simplicity as a way to achieve harmony and effect. Simple designs are easy to comprehend and are more likely to leave an impression.
Whiplash is about Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is a determined young jazz drummer who aspires to be the best in his prestigious music conservatory. Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), a feared instructor, meets Andrew and places him in the top jazz band, permanently altering the young man's life. Andrew's need to reach excellence, on the other hand, easily spirals out of control. Andrew's desire to attain perfection, on the other hand, easily becomes obsession when his ruthless trainer drives him to the limit of his abilities and sanity.
In my own version of Whiplash's minimalist poster, I draft drips of blood alongside the drumsticks and the snare to portray what Andrew Neiman goes through in playing drum while pursuing his dream to be the best drummer.
Pekak is a Malaysian drama thriller film directed by Mohd Khairul Azri Mohd Noor and starring Zaharil Adzim, Sharifah Amani, Iedil Putra, and Joe Flizzow that was released in 2015. The film follows Uda, a deaf drug dealer who resorts to crime in order to pay for his Cochlear implants. His world, though, is turned upside down when he encounters Dara, a defiant high school student who longs to be free of her father's watchful eye.
In my minimalist version of the movie's poster, I tried portraying Uda, the main character, who is deaf. The radiowave represents that even though Uda is deaf, he is trying to understand what Dara wants in her life.
